Use of this rule book for non-approved events is strictly prohibited Australian Ranch Horse prides itself on the integrity and honesty of each of its’ members. All the rules in the world will only be as good as those honourable enough to follow them. We, as a group cannot make a set of show rules that will cover every situation nor can we possibly police every aspect of the competition within our organization. We expect the members to see what is equitable, and fair, abide by their conscience and follow these basic rules set forth in this rulebook. © 2020 Australian Ranch Horse – Updated 1st November 2020 2 What you need before you can show Competition Card: For members competing in any sanctioned ARH events Eligibility: Check with ARH for Class eligibility of competitors and horses. Eligibility levels are Open, Youth, Amateur Freshman, Amateurs and Novice Amateur exhibitors must be current members and hold their division card. Horse Owner Card: If the horse is owned by a person/company/partnership other than the competitor, the owner must be a financial member of Australian Ranch Horse. Certificate of Registration for Horses: All horses entered in ARH approved shows are required to be registered with ARH at the time of entering classes. ARH membership name must coincide with the owner’s name on the horse’s breed association papers. If the horse does not have papers, it must be identifiable through markings and brands. Requirements to Show: You may be required to present either the original or photocopy of your current membership card(s) and horse’s Certificate of Registration at each show. You can save it on your phone and present it that way too! © 2020 Australian Ranch Horse – Updated 1st November 2020 3 Fee Schedule • All fees must be paid in Australian funds. • Fees are subject to change without notice. • ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE AND NON-TRANSFERABLE. Annual memberships run financial year 1st July thru 30th June. • Individual Membership $55.00 including one competition card (Open, Amateur, Novice Amateur, Amateur Freshman) • Individual Membership $35.00 (non-competitor and non-competitor horse owner) • Family Membership $80.00 for people in the same household • Competition cards $10.00 (for individual family members) • Youth Membership $15.00 • Lifetime Membership $400.00 • Judge Only (judging purposes only/may not show with this) $50.00 • Horse Licence Fees: $100.00 optional for recording points All membership must be paid online through the Australian Ranch Horse Membership Site. No paper- based memberships are accepted. Additional Competition Cards must be purchased online through the membership portal. Services • Change of Name on Membership: $10.00 • Service Proof to Show (Emailed): $10.00 • Declined Payment/Returned Cheque Charge: $50.00 • Protest Fee (cash or certified funds only): $50.00 • Transfer of Horse Licence Ownership: $50.00 • Duplicate Certificate Fee (provided to registered owner only): $25.00 • Changes to certificate including address and horses name: $50.00 • Change to Gelding (stamped) Existing Licence: No Fee • Computer Print-Out Show Record (Current Year) for licenced horses: $15.00 • Computer Print-Out Show Record (Lifetime) for licenced horses: $30.00 Fees must be processed through PayPal or PayPal Express for Credit Cards to Australian Ranch Horse. © 2020 Australian Ranch Horse – Updated 1st November 2020 4 Mission Statement The mission of the Australian Ranch Horse is to provide a program and place to showcase and promote the abilities of the all-around versatile ranch horse with the focus on having shows that are fun, affordable and designed to improve both horse and rider in a positive atmosphere where honesty, personal growth and politeness towards fellow horsemen exists, where horses are always respected, and where true ranch tradition is genuinely honoured. Purpose The Australian Ranch Horse was organised to encourage, promote, advertise and develop the ranch type horse as a unique and excellent athlete. Australian Ranch Horse shall carry out the foregoing purpose by . conducting and sponsoring ranch horse shows and events; . encouraging members to conduct horse shows and events; . establishing standards, rules and regulations for the efficient promotion of ranch horse competition; . establishing qualified Approved Show Entities groups and organisations; . establishing standards for judging the performance of ranch horses; . maintaining active records of individual ranch horses and riders; . establishing appropriate recognition for their achievements; . maintaining the traditional and historical connection of the ranch horse with the ranching and livestock industry; and . co-operating with other equine associations and businesses having a common purpose. Foreword Welcome to the Australian Ranch Horse. Australian Ranch Horse (ARH) are a group of dedicated horse enthusiasts looking to enjoy their horses in an entirely different type of competitive atmosphere. All ARH events, programs and services encourage fun, friendly, family-oriented competition at all levels where members can participate in many fun activities and learning experiences and share a passion for the true equine athlete. The Australian Ranch Horse prides itself on the integrity and honesty of each of its’ members. All the rules in the world will only be as good as those honourable enough to follow them.   • 2020 LSU State Horse Show Ranch Division Rules
    Ranch Division ATTIRE: Clothing must be clean and neat. Exhibitors shall wear a western hat and cowboy boots. A western style boot with a minimum of 1-inch heel can be used. A minimum of a short-sleeved shirt is required. The shirt must button or snap down the entire length of the shirt. Equitation shirts are not acceptable. Pullovers are not acceptable as a substitute for the shirt. Spurs and chaps may be worn at the option of the rider. TACK: Horses shall be shown with a stock saddle. Silver equipment will not count over a good working outfit. Legal bits are defined as: 1. 8-1/2 inch maximum length shank. Shanks may be fixed or loose; 2. With regard to mouthpieces, bars must be round, oval, or egg shaped, smooth and unwrapped metal of 5/16 to 3/4 inch in diameter, measured 1 inch from the cheek.They may be inlaid, but must be smooth or latex wrapped. Nothing may protrude below the mouthpiece (bar), such as extensions or prongs on solid mouthpieces. The mouthpiece may be two or three pieces. A three piece, connecting ring of 1-1/4 inches or less in diameter, or a connecting flat bar of 3/8 to 3/4 inches(measured top to bottom with a maximum length of 2 inches),which lies flat in the horse’s mouth is acceptable. 3. Horses six years of age and older must be ridden one handed with a shank bit. 4. The port must be no higher than 3-1/2 inches maximum, with rollers and covers acceptable.

    RANCH TRAIL SHW305.7 Junior horses competing in western pleasure, western horsemanship, western riding, trail, reining, working cow horse, boxing, ranch riding, ranch trail, trail, all versatility ranch horse and all ranching heritage challenge classes that are shown with a hackamore or snaffle bit may be ridden with one or two hands on the reins. The tails of the reins must be crossed on the opposite side of the neck when riding with two hands on split reins except in reining , working cow horse, boxing, ranch riding, ranch trail, all VRH classes, and all RHC classes. Closed reins (example mecate) may not be used with a snaffle bit, except in working cow horse, boxing, ranch riding, ranch trail, all VRH classes and, all RHC classes, where a mecate is permitted. When using a snaffle bit in working cow horse, boxing, ranch riding, ranch trail, all VRH classes and all RHC classes, a leather or other woven material chin strap of any width is to be used and should be attached to the bit below the reins. No iron, chain, or other material is allowed. The chin strap can include metal buckles and/or keepers. SHW306.4 Protective boots, leg wraps and bandages are allowed in reining, working cow horse, boxing, team penning, ranch sorting, barrel racing, pole bending, stake racing, jumping, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, dally team roping-heading, dally team roping-heeling, cutting, western horsemanship, ranch riding, ranch trail, versatility ranch horse classes and ranching heritage classes. The use of slip on (easycare) horse boots or related footwear are not considered as protective boots and are permissible to be worn in all classes.

You do not have to own a horse to participate in the additional contests. The State 4-H Horse Show is scheduled for June 11-15, 2019 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry, GA. This show is the official State Qualifying Show for the Southern Regional 4-H Horse Show. There are three basic requirements to be eligible to participate in this show. 1. Be enrolled in Georgia 4-H as a member. 2. Own or lease the horse shown by March 1, 2019 and be able to show proof. Intent to Show and Proof of Ownership or Lease registered online by March 15, 2019. 3. Cloverleaf and Junior participants must have completed at least half of the Novice Horseman Project and Seniors all of the Novice Horseman. This must be completed by time of entry (verified by the County Extension Office) by May 8, 2019.

A team of 2 shall sort out and move 10 head of cattle across the foul/start line which is the center of the “8” round pen in numerical order. Teams will be given a number & time will start when first horse’s nose crosses the start/foul line. As an example, if your number is called (3), you must start with animal number 3, and then follow in sequence 4, 5, 6,7,8,9,0,1,2. If any number goes over the foul line, out of sequence, it is a no time. You must not allow a sorted animal to return over the foul line, or that will be a no time. The team with the most cattle sorted in the shortest time will win. Limited to 5# of Go’s as long as at least ONE Partner(s) changes. Teams must be given a warning when 30 seconds remain. If an animal leaves arena of its own accord, team may be given a re-run.

It’s been hot but we actually had to pull out the jackets at Facebook! What a Way to Keep in Touch! ................5 Cheyenne this year and that was a pleasant welcome for lots of folks that traveled up from the southern states. This was the 10th year for the Ranch Sorting and Penning at Cheyenne Frontier Days and it was one if the best if not the best. We saw Ranch Sorting to be Featured on a 40% increase with 1,436 teams over the 1,000 teams last year, so that is a great sign that the future is bright for our sport. The popularity is growing all over the U.S. and we Two Programs on RFD-TV .........................................6 intend to do everything possible to keep the ball rolling. Alan Taylor of Horseshowwebcasts.com was there to live broadcast the entire event all over the world. We had so many hits that it overloaded our web site and we had to buy more broadband (whatever that means but it must be good). Cheyenne was great and we have loads of Cheyenne Frontier Days RSNC photos of cowboys and cowgirls having fun on horses to prove it.
