In 1987 the rules were revised in order to safeguard the one design characteristic in the light of modern dinghy developments. The several hundred detailed drawings, which were once part of the rules, have been excluded. Included within these rules is diagram for the reduced rig. Although this rig may not be used in class racing, the diagram is included as information for the purpose of junior racing at club level. National Firefly hulls, hull appendages, rigs and sails are measurement controlled. Firefly hulls shall only be manufactured by Rondar Raceboats – in the class rules referred to as licensed builder. Equipment is required to comply with the RYA National Firefly Building Specification and is subject to an RYA approved manufacturing control system. Firefly, rigs shall only be manufactured by Selden. Firefly sails shall only be manufactured by Hyde Sails. Firefly hulls, hull appendages, rigs and sails may, after having left the manufacturer, only be altered to the extent permitted in Section C of the class rules. Owners and crews should be aware that compliance with rules in Section C is NOT checked as part of the certification process. Rules regulating the use of equipment during a race are contained in Section C of these class rules, in ERS Part I and in the Racing Rules of Sailing. This introduction only provides an informal background and the National Firefly Class Rules proper begin on the next page. PLEASE REMEMBER: IF THESE RULES DO NOT SAY YOU CAN, THEN YOU CANNOT! 4 National Firefly Class Rules 2010 PART I – ADMINISTRATION Section A – General A.1 LANGUAGE A.1.1 The official language of the class is English and in case of dispute over trans­ lation the English text shall prevail. A.1.2 The word “shall” is mandatory and the word “may” is permissive. A.2 ABBREVIATIONS A.2.1 ISAF International Sailing Federation RYA Royal Yachting Association NFA National Firefly Class Association ERS Equipment Rules of Sailing RRS Racing Rules of Sailing A.3 AUTHORITIES A.3.1 The national authority of the class is the RYA which shall co-operate with the NFA in all matters concerning these class rules. A.3.2 Notwithstanding anything contained herein, the RYA has the authority to withdraw a certificate. A.4 ADMINISTRATION OF THE CLASS A.4.1 The class shall be administered by the RYA in conjunction with the NFA. A.5 ISAF RULES A.5.1 These class rules shall be read in conjunction with the ERS. A.5.2 Except where used in headings, when a term is printed in “bold” the definition in the ERS applies and when a term is printed in “italics” the definition in the RRS applies. A.6 CLASS RULES VARIATIONS A.6.1 Class rules shall not be varied at events without the approval of the RYA and the NFA. A.7 CLASS RULES AMENDMENTS A.7.1 Amendments to these class rules are subject to the approval of the RYA. A.8 CLASS RULES INTERPRETATION A.8.1 Interpretation of class rules shall be made by the RYA who shall consult with the NFA. National Firefly Class Rules 2010 5 A.9 CLASS BUILDING FEE A.9.1 The licensed hull builder shall pay the Class Building Fee (as stated by the RYA) on each boat at the commencement of building whether or not it is subsequently measured and certified. A.9.2 The RYA shall, after having received the Class Building Fee for the hull, issue a building fee receipt and sail number. A.10 SAIL NUMBERS A.10.1 Sail numbers shall be issued by the RYA. A.11 HULL CERTIFICATION A.11.1 A certificate shall record the following information: (a) Class (b) Certification authority (c) Sail number issued by the certification authority (d) Owner (e) Craft identification number when applicable (f) Builder/Manufacturers details (g) Date of initial certification (h) Date of issue of certificate (i) Stripped hull weight (j) Corrector weight details (k) Owner’s club (l) Name of the official measurer A.12 INITIAL HULL CERTIFICATION A.12.1 For a certificate to be issued to hull not previously certified: (a) Certification control shall be carried out by the official measurer who shall complete the appropriate documentation. (b) The documentation and certification fee, if required, shall be sent to the certification authority. (c) Upon receipt of a satisfactorily completed documentation and certification fee, if required, the certification authority may issue a certificate. A.13 VALIDITY OF CERTIFICATE A.13.1 A hull certificate becomes invalid upon: (a) the change to any items recorded on the hull certificate as required under A.11. (b) withdrawal by the certification authority, (c) the issue of a new certificate, A.14 HULL RE-CERTIFICATION A.14.1 The certification authority may issue a certificate to a previously certified hull: 6 National Firefly Class Rules 2010 (a) when it is invalidated under A.13.1(a), after receipt of the old certificate when available, and certification fee if required. (b) when it is invalidated under A.13.1 (b), at its discretion. (c) in other cases, by application of the procedure in A.12. A.15 RETENTION OF CERTIFICATION DOCUMENTATION A.15.1 The certification authority shall: (a) retain the original documentation upon which the current certificate is based. Section B – Boat Eligibility For a boat to be eligible for racing, it shall comply with the rules in this section. B.1 CLASS RULES AND CERTIFICATION B.1.1 The boat shall: (a) be in compliance with the class rules. (b) have a valid hull certificate. (c) have a valid flotation endorsement. B.2 FLOTATION CHECKS B.2.1 The hull certificate shall carry an annual flotation check endorsement which shall be valid for no more than 12 months from the date of the endorsement. B.2.2 To obtain the flotation endorsement the owner shall carry out a floatation check as below. If satisfactory, the owner shall sign and date the flotation endorsement section on the certificate and arrange for the signature to be witnessed and endorsed by a club official B.2.3 The flotation check shall be carried out with the mast stepped but sails and all loose gear removed. The boat shall be floated on her beam-ends both to port and starboard. B.2.4 The boat shall support a crew, not immersed above the knees, of a weight of minimum 136kg for a period of 5 minutes on each side. B.2.5 The owner shall satisfy himself that the leakage into each built in buoyancy compartment during the test does not exceed one litre. Kristiina, [email protected] Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Abstract Where does the work of de/colonizing preservice teacher education begin? Aboriginal children‘s literature? Storytelling and theatrical performance? Or, with a paradigm shift? This article takes up some of these questions and challenges, old and new, and begins to problematize these deeper layers. In this article, the authors explore the conversations and counterpoints that came about looking at the theme of social justice through the lens of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) children‘s literature. As the scope of this lens widened, it became more evident to the authors that there are several filters that can be applied to the work of de/colonizing preservice teacher education programs and the larger educational system. This article also explores what it means to act and perform notions of de/colonization, and is constructed like a script, thus bridging the voices of academia, theatre, and Indigenous knowledge. In the first half (the academic script) the authors work through the messy and tangled web of de/colonization, while the second half (the actors‘ script) examines these frameworks and narratives through the actor‘s voice. The article calls into question the notions of performing inquiry and deconstructing narrative. Research Article Vascular biology Cellular metabolism is increasingly recognized as a controller of immune cell fate and function. MicroRNA-33 (miR-33) regulates cellular lipid metabolism and represses genes involved in cholesterol efflux, HDL biogenesis, and fatty acid oxidation. Here, we determined that miR-33–mediated disruption of the balance of aerobic glycolysis and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation instructs macrophage inflammatory polarization and shapes innate and adaptive immune responses. Macrophage-specific Mir33 deletion increased oxidative respiration, enhanced spare respiratory capacity, and induced an M2 macrophage polarization–associated gene profile. Furthermore, miR-33–mediated M2 polarization required miR-33 targeting of the energy sensor AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), but not cholesterol efflux. Notably, miR-33 inhibition increased macrophage expression of the retinoic acid–producing enzyme aldehyde dehydrogenase family 1, subfamily A2 (ALDH1A2) and retinal dehydrogenase activity both in vitro and in a mouse model. Consistent with the ability of retinoic acid to foster inducible Tregs, miR-33–depleted macrophages had an enhanced capacity to induce forkhead box P3 (FOXP3) expression in naive CD4+ T cells. Finally, treatment of hypercholesterolemic mice with miR-33 inhibitors for 8 weeks resulted in accumulation of inflammation-suppressing M2 macrophages and FOXP3+ Tregs in plaques and reduced atherosclerosis progression. Collectively, these results reveal that miR-33 regulates macrophage inflammation and demonstrate that miR-33 antagonism is atheroprotective, in part, by reducing plaque inflammation by promoting M2 macrophage polarization and Treg induction.

    History of the Finn The Finn www.Finnclass.org The Finn was born from the hand of Swedish canoe designer Rickard Sarby in 1949 as his entry in a design competition to select a new monotype dinghy for the 1952 Olympics Games in Helsinki, Finland. Whatever else he was thinking on that day, he cannot have imagined that sailors across the whole world would still be enjoying and racing the same design 60 years later. In 2012 the Finn will be sailed for the 16th time at an Olympic Games and is the longest serving dinghy in the Olympic Regatta. For over six decades this thoroughbred singlehanded dinghy has had an incalculable influence on the sailing world, being a blend of a popular club boat, Olympic legend and teacher of many top sailors. The Finn is one The First Finn, first time afloat in 1949 of the survivors of the sailing world. It has survived numerous re-selections of Olympic classes and 60 years of careful technical development, from the wooden hulls, wooden masts and cotton sails of the 1950s to the GRP hulls, to the carbon masts and kevlar sails of the 1990s. It has sustained criticism over the years for being hard to sail and expensive to campaign but it has always won through. And in spite of all this it has strengthened its position as the world's premier dinghy for tactical as well as technical singlehanded sailing. If the Finn has proved one thing, it is that change for the sake of change is rarely a good idea.
