  • Pak-Turkey Trade Be Taken to High Level: Imran
4th January, 2019 Pak-Turkey trade be taken to high level: Imran ANKARA: Prime Minister Imran Khan Thursday said it was high time that Pakistan and Turkey should take their bilateral trade to a high level, citing Pakistan’s ideal geo-strategic location and its huge potential for investment in infrastructure and tourism. Addressing the Turkish businessmen at a business forum organised by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) here, the prime minister said that Pakistan was a virgin territory as a lot of trade areas had not yet been exploited and hardly five percent of total mineral reserves could yet be explored. TOBB is the highest legal entity in Turkey representing the private sector with 365 member associations from local chambers of commerce and industry. The prime minister is in Turkey on two-day official visit, at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Prior to landing in Turkish capital, he visited Turkish city of Konya where he visited the tomb of renowned jurists and Islamic scholar Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi and laid a wreath at the grave. He is accompanied by a high level delegation including Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Finance Minister Asad Umar, Planning Minister Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, Advisor on Trade Abdul Razak Dawood and Special Assistant to PM Zulfikar Bukhari. The prime minister said huge reserves of oil, gas, copper and coal were yet unexplored. He said as Pakistan was undertaking huge connectivity projects under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the issue of huge distance impeding Pak-Turkish trade would be resolved.

Lewis (1978, 622) appropriately states that “It is more difficult to study dictatorships than democracies because the internal politics of the former are deliberately hidden from the public view.” This chapter identifies in the ethnic composition of the executive branch an important and systematic source of information on the dynamics of power sharing within a sample of fifteen sub-Saharan African countries. Since in- dependence from European colonization, Benin, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia,1 Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Togo, Kenya, and Uganda have all experienced widely different political dynamics and often deep political crises.

Munich Personal RePEc Archive Britain and Africa: heading for the Brexit rocks Kohnert, Dirk Institute of African-Studies, GIGA - German Institute of Global and Area Studies August 2018 Online at https://mpra.ub.uni-muenchen.de/89202/ MPRA Paper No. 89202, posted 28 Sep 2018 20:36 UTC Author’s version of: Kohnert, D. (2018): More Equitable Britain–Africa Relations Post-Brexit: Doomed to Fail? Africa Spectrum, vol. 53., No. 2, forthcoming Britain and Africa: heading for the Brexit rocks Dirk Kohnert 1 Brexit - The Unsinkable Britannic Credit: Zapiro, 2016 2 Abstract: High-flying illusions on the part of the proponents and grim predictions on the part of the sceptics have characterised the controversy around Brexit. The article assesses five key issues at stake for post-Brexit relationships between Britain, the EU, and Africa: market access, foreign direct investment (FDI), aid, security, and the nature of the partnership. The analysis focuses on those sub-Saharan African countries that belong to the Commonwealth, as the British government’s vision of a “Global Britain” relies heavily on its reinforced cooperation with Commonwealth nations. The review of potential developments in these different policy fields shows that the expectations of Brexiteers and African politicians alike concerning an enhanced, partnership-like post- Brexit Commonwealth relationship are largely unfounded. Although the post-Brexit United Kingdom will increase African countries’ choices regarding preferred trading partners, it remains questionable whether London could offer something new that other global players with increasing interest in Africa, such as China, do not already have on their agenda. • Articulating an African Feminism Through the Nana Esi Archetype
CORE Metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk Provided by ASU Digital Repository Malezile Defy Master Narratives: Articulating an African Feminism through the Nana Esi Archetype by Portia Nana Essuman A Thesis Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Arts Approved November 2012 by the Graduate Supervisory Committee: Akua Duku Anokye, Chair C. Alejandra Elenes Gloria Cuàdraz ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY December 2012 ABSTRACT Oral history methodologies are used to conduct fifteen interviews with Martha Akesi Ndaarko Sennie-Tumi over the course of three months. Research responded to the following questions: How do African women defy master narratives? When do African women defy master narratives and move from the margins to the center? What roles do African women take on to defy master narratives and why? To what extent does the concept of malezile (women who stand firm) address human rights? Twelve stories of defiance (three of which are folktales) are analyzed for recurring themes, concepts and motifs. Research showed that African women defy master narratives when the system worked to their detriment through the Nana Esi archetype. The stories also showed that women adopt nontraditional roles during defiance by using whatever means available to them at the time of defiance. i DEDICATION I dedicate this thesis to my beloved grandmother, Martha Akesi Ndaarko Sennie- Tumi. ii ACKNOWLEDMENTS This work is a communal women’s effort and must be viewed as such. This thesis is dedicated to my beloved grandmother, Martha Akesi Ndaarko Sennie-Tumi, who raised me and taught me my first feminist lessons.
