His strong aviation background spans diverse roles at home and abroad as a fighter pilot for the Royal Canadian Air Force, pivotal roles at YVR and CEO positions with Vantage Airport Group at six airports in three countries. Since rejoining YVR as President & CEO, Richmond has overseen the airport’s vision to become a world-class sustainable connecting hub linking Asia to the Americas. JAMES BENNETT DIRECTOR OF AVIATION SERVICES, PHOENIX SKY HARBOUR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT When: Wednesday 20 November, 0900-0930 James E. Bennett, A.A.E. serves as Director of Aviation Services for the City of Phoenix, Arizona. In this role he is responsible for the operation, management and development of three airports: Sky Harbor International, Deer Valley and Phoenix-Goodyear. In addition to directing the operations of these airports he is responsible for the development and implementation of a US $2 billion capital investment program involving terminal building expansion, automated people movers and airfield improvements. These improvements are designed to accommodate additional growth at Sky Harbor International which currently serves 45 million passengers annually. DAMIEN TROWER HEAD OF AIRPORT SECURITY, GATWICK AIRPORT When: Thursday 21 November, 0930-1000 Damien joined the Gatwick team in 2018 as the Head of Airport Security. Prior to joining Gatwick Damien served for 20 years in the military as an intelligence officer and pilot. He has wide experience of national security operations and finished his career as an Assistant Attaché within the British embassy in Washington DC. He is now responsible for leading Gatwick’s security operations, serving as a Silver commander in crisis, and acting as lead for Counter UAS policy and procurement. He has a BSc (hons) from the University of Wales, a MSc from Cranfield University, and a MA from Kings College. Damien is also qualified as a Chartered Manager with the CMI. 8 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS PAUL SCURRAH MANAGING DIRECTOR AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, VIRGIN AUSTRALIA When: Tuesday 19 November, 0945-1015 Paul Scurrah was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer on 25 March 2019. Paul has more than 20 years of leadership experience in the transport, logistics, travel and aviation sectors having previously been CEO of DP World Australia and Queensland Rail and held Executive Management roles at Aurizon, Flight Centre and Tourism Queensland. DEAN SALTER CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, JETSTAR AIRWAYS When: Tuesday 19 November, 1400-1430 Dean joined Jetstar Australia and New Zealand in July 2016 in his current role as Chief Operating Officer. Before entering the aviation industry Dean spent more than 20 years in leadership positions at BP, one of the world’s leading integrated oil and gas companies. He has extensive expertise in managing operations and safety; supply and logistics; strategy; sales and retail; and customer service. Dean has completed business studies at Monash University in Melbourne and Cambridge University in the UK along with an Advanced Operations Program at MIT, Boston. MICHELLE BENNETTS EXECUTIVE GENERAL MANAGER, CUSTOMER SERVICE ENHANCEMENT, AIRSERVICES AUSTRALIA When: Tuesday 19 November, 1430-1500 Michelle Bennetts joined Airservices in 2005, has been part of the Executive since 2007, and held a number of EGM positions during this time. Her current portfolio ensures service enhancement investments maximise the benefits to customers. Previously Michelle led the Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Service with a team of nearly 1200 professional fire fighters, emergency vehicle technicians and support staff. Before joining Airservices, Michelle spent more than a decade in professional services, working with Deloitte and KPMG delivering audit, risk and governance services to large organisations in a variety of industry sectors. 9 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS LESLEY SEEBECK CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, ANU CYBER INSTITUTE When: Tuesday 19 November, 1500-1530 Dr Lesley Seebeck started as the CEO of the Cyber Institute, Australian National University, on 30 July 2018. Most recently, she was Chief Investment and Advisory Officer at the Digital Transformation Agency, arriving there from the Bureau of Meteorology where she served as Chief Information Officer from mid 2014 to late 2017. SHANE CARMODY CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND DIRECTOR OF AVIATION SAFETY, CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY (CASA) When: Wednesday 20 November, 0930-1000 Shane Carmody was appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Director of Aviation Safety (DAS) on 7 June 2017. Immediately prior to his formal appointment, Shane acted as CEO/DAS for eight months from October 2016. CASA’s roles include the safety regulation of civil air operations in Australian Territory, the operation of Australian aircraft outside Australian Territory and encouraging a greater acceptance by the aviation industry of its obligations to maintain high standards of aviation safety. GEOFF CULBERT CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, SYDNEY AIRPORT When: Wednesday 20 November, 1000-1030 Geoff joined Sydney Airport as Chief Executive Officer in January 2018. Having brought with him extensive commercial and operational experience, he has placed a heavy emphasis on working closely and collaboratively with customers, business partners and government. Geoff currently serves on both the World Governing Board and Asia- Pacific Board of the Airports Council International (ACI), the global industry association representing airports around the world.
