Text: from Shakespeare’s and the Orthodox Funeral Service

Softly and Tenderly Arr. David Cherwien

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me. See, on the portal he’s waiting and watching, watching for you and for me.

“Come home, come home! You who are weary, come home.” Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, “O sinner come home!”

Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading, pleading for you and for me? Why should we linger and heed not his mercies, mercies for you and for me?

Text: Will Thompson

Selig sind die Toten (Blessed are the Dead) SWV 391 Heinrich Schütz

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord henceforth. Yes, says the Spirit, they will rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them.

Text: Revelation 14:13

Soon Ah Will Be Done Arr. William L. Dawson

Refrain: Soon ah will be done-a with the troubles of the world, troubles of the world, troubles of the world. Soon ah will be done-a with the troubles of the world, goin’ home to live with God.

I want to meet my mother, I’m goin’ to live with God. Refrain

No more weepin’ and a wailin’, I’m goin’ to live with God. Refrain

I want to meet my Jesus, I’m goin’ to live with God. Text: Spiritual

Breathe on Me Breath of God Paul John Rudoi

Breathe on me, breath of God; Breathe on me, breath of God, Breathe on me, breath of God; Fill me with life anew, Until my heart is pure, So shall I never die, That I may love all that you love, Until with you I will one will, But live with you in the perfect life, And do what you would do. To do and to endure. Of your eternity.

Text: Edwin Hatch

Hope and Quietly Wait Paul John Rudoi & Thad Fiscella

It is good that one should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God.

Text: Lamentations 3:26 & Romans 3:26

It Will Be the Past Paul John Rudoi

It will be the past, and we’ll live there together. Not as it was to live, but as it is remembered. It will be the past. We’ll all go back together. Everyone we ever loved, and lost, and must remember. It will be the past. And it will last forever.

Text: Patrick Phillips

Sometimes I Feel

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child, a long way from home.

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child, a long way from home.

Sometimes I feel like I’m almost gone, a long way from home.

Text: Spiritual

III. Hope

We Shall Walk Through the Valley in Peace Moses Hogan We shall walk in peace.

We shall walk through the valley in peace. For Jesus Himself will be our leader. We shall walk through the valley in peace.

We will meet our loved ones there. For Jesus Himself will be our leader. We shall walk through the valley in peace.

There will be no trials there. For Jesus Himself will be our leader. We shall walk through the valley in peace.

We shall walk in peace. Text: Spiritual

O Day Full of Grace Arr. Paul John Rudoi

O day full of grace, which we behold now gently to view ascending, thou over the earth thy reign unfold, good cheer to all mortals lending, that children of light in ev’ry clime may prove that the night is ending.

O day full of hope, a dawn begins when given love’s arrival In Christ, the hope of one and all, humanity’s survival. His passion cov’ring all our sins so love sees a revival.

O day full of mystic meaning far above our limits holds us, his suff'ring and death and resurrection clears a path before us, Lest we take it on, that love so strong, and give it to those around us.

O day full of light so clear and calm can bring us ever closer. In time, we become as God would dream, connected to each other diverse in our past, our present, and God willing, our bright future.

When we on that final journey go that Christ is for us preparing, we’ll gather in song, our hearts aglow, all joy of the heavens sharing, and there we will join God’s endless praise, with angels and saints adoring.
