1 12/15/14 MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING, BOARD OF EDUCATION, SCHOOL DISTRICT #225, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS, DECEMBER 15, 2014 A regular meeting of the Board of Education, School District No. 225 was held on Monday, December 15, 2014, at approximately 7:02 p.m. at Glenbrook South High School Student Center, pursuant to due notice of all members and the public. The president called the meeting to order. Upon calling of the roll, the following members answered present: Boron, Doughty, Hanley, Martin, Shein, Wilkas Absent: Taub Also present: Bretag, Finan (arrived 7:29 p.m.), Freund (arrived 8:09 p.m.), Geallis, Geddeis, Pearson, Pryma, Riggle, Siena, Swanson, Wegley, Whisler, Williamson, Petrarca (attorney – arrived 8:00 p.m.) APPROVAL OF AGENDA FOR THIS MEETING Motion by Mr. Boron, seconded by Mr. Doughty to approve the agenda for this meeting. Upon calling of the roll: aye: Boron, Doughty, Hanley, Martin, Shein, Wilkas nay: none Motion carried 6-0. STUDENTS AND STAFF WHO EXCEL Ms. Geddeis recognized the GBS Oracle editorial board for winning the Pacemaker award. The Pacemaker recognizes writing, design graphics, photography, illustrations and editorial leadership. The GBS Oracle is one of only six newspapers in the entire nation to receive this honor and a first in GBS history. Mr. Marshall Harris (GBS) thanked the Board for recognizing the hard work of the students and for the great opportunity that they afford the students. The students introduced themselves and their position on the paper. 2 12/15/14 Dr. Riggle stated how proud he is of the students’ hard work and noted what a great paper they put out. -

Dan Leonard Dan Leonard Knew a Career in the Hospitality Industry
Dan Leonard Dan Leonard knew a career in the hospitality industry was a good fit from the moment he began washing dishes at his neighbor’s bar at an early age. He was drawn to the fast- paced environment, working with a variety people and the never-ending challenges and rewards that restaurant/hotel professionals encounter on a daily basis. Dan began his hospitality career at his neighborhood McDonald’s restaurant in Chicago, where he learned and practiced the McDonald’s corporate motto and operating philosophy of QSC&V (Quality, Service, Cleanliness and Value), which he carried on throughout his career. While attending Triton College, Dan moved into the full-service restaurant segment at The Rusty Scupper Restaurant in River Grove, Ill. During his 15-year career at The Rusty Scupper, Dan started as a cook and worked his way up to a management position. He later joined Planet Hollywood Restaurant Company at their inception and helped grow the chain from three restaurants to over 40. Highlights include opening and operating the chain’s highest grossing restaurant at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., before being promoted to east coast regional director, overseeing the expansion and operations of over 15 restaurants from New York City to Key West, Fla. For the past 20 years, Dan has been with Margaritaville Hospitality Group. He was hired as the opening general manager of Margaritaville at Universal Studios in Florida with a goal of spearheading future growth. Dan was promoted to president of Margaritaville Hospitality in 2007 and now focuses on the growth, operations and profitability of the brands expanding lodging division. -

The attention to the development of tourist facilities was given from the 3 Plan Period onwards, Early in 1950 the executive part of tourism organization came into being with the appointment of a Tourist Development Officer. He was assisted by some of the existing staff of Home (Transport) Department. In 1960-61 the Assistant Secretary of the Home (Transport) Department was made Director of Tourism ex-officio and a few posts of assistants were created. Subsequently, the Secretary of Home (Transport) Department became the ex-officio Director of Tourism. Two Regional Tourist Offices - one for the five North Bengal districts i.e., Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, West Dinajpur and Maida with headquarters at Darjeeling and the other for the remaining districts of the State with headquarters at Kolkata were also set up. The Regional Office at KolKata started functioning on 2nd September, 1961. The Regional Office in Darjeeling was started on 1st May, 1962 by taking over the existing Tourist Bureau of the Govt. of India at Darjeeling. The tourism wing of the Home (Transport) Department was transferred to the Development Department on 1st September, 1962. Development. Commissioner then became the ex-officio Director of Tourism. Subsequently, in view of the increasing activities of tourism organization it was transformed into a full-fledged Tourism Department, though the Secretary of the Forest Department functioned as the Secretary, Tourism Department. -

Tobacco Roads: An Exploration of the Meaning and Situatedness of Smoking among Homeless Adult Males in Winnipeg by Michelle Bobowski A Thesis submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies of University of Manitoba In partial fulfillment of the requirements of the degree of MASTER OF NURSING Faculty of Nursing University of Manitoba Winnipeg, Manitoba Copyright © 2012 by Michelle Bobowski i ABSTRACT Homeless individuals are some of the most marginalized Canadians and most likely to use tobacco daily. The transient nature of homeless smokers contributes to marginalization within health care as well as tobacco control strategies. The purpose of this study was to describe acquisition and smoking behaviors of homeless individuals as a first step in developing essential research evidence to inform tobacco control strategies relevant to this vulnerable population. This ethnographic study investigated the everyday reality of 15 male homeless individuals living in the Salvation Army Shelter in Winnipeg. Tobacco use was explored against their environmental and social contexts, homeless smokers used an informal street-based economy for acquisition, and smoking behaviors were high risk for infectious diseases with sharing and smoking discarded cigarettes. Tobacco control strategies that consider homeless individuals have the potential to reduce morbidity and mortality along with diminishing inequitable health burdens with this population. ii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS I am heartily thankful to my supervisor, Dr. Annette Schultz, whose encouragement, guidance and support has taken me from my first tobacco class in 2007 to this final level of writing.
