I' a big fan of the X-Men, but nothing about this story was particularly engaging. Ancient beings one of which it seems I should have heard of bring war to the X-Men's doorstep. Perhaps if I knew anything about John Sublime then th is heading home with a surprise. Perhaps if I knew anything about John Sublime then this story would have been more intriguing, but I don't know anything about him and he's as bland as vanilla ice cream. Especially when I'm fond of every lady represented here. Well, except for . Never cared all that much for her. Unfortunately, it just didn't work out the way I wanted it to. Obviously, it's been a long time since I was a regular X-book reader, because I had no earthly idea who John Sublime was. I think the most important thing to take from that article is that there was once a character in the X- books who w Well, this sounded interesting. I think the most important thing to take from that article is that there was once a character in the X- books who went by the codename . Not really knowing who this guy was, I ended up not really caring all that much. Besides, his storyline was horribly compressed. I'm not sure why it was squeezed into so few issues, but it made it feel very rushed. I also didn't like the way Wood handled the conflict between Storm and Rachel. It felt like he started with the idea that they must butt heads somehow, and he worked his way back from there. Rachel questioning why Storm would be the team leader is just so bizarre at this point. She must have years of experience as team leader by now. Even odder is them arguing over whether or not it would ever be morally acceptable to take a life. It just sounds coming from Rachel Summers, of all people. I'm also a little uneasy with how absolutely no one in this book or, apparently, behind the scenes of this book is questioning how Jubilee picked up that cute baby. I mean, she literally just grabbed him and ran. At one point, Jubilee admits that she has no idea if this baby has any family or not, but she doesn't seem to care, and neither does anyone else. Um, good things. Well, the very idea of an all-female X-team is great. There are plenty of experienced, competent ladies running around the halls of the Jean Grey School to pull it off. Psylocke's new costume is literally the best thing I've ever seen her in, and looks way more functional than that tiny swimsuit they used to make her wear. Storm's new costume looks completely fabulous, and I love that she's gone back to her mohawk. And the fourth issue has Wolverine in possibly his most low-key and logical guest stint ever. Wow, has he ever mellowed, and watching him, Jubilee, and baby Shogo have family time was actually pretty cute. But this is seriously, seriously overpriced as a collection. Just four. Other than that, the issue is the usual bog-standard Claremont drivel, overstuffing the panels with useless exposition, having the characters describing their actions while the narrative boxes do the same. View all 3 comments. The first arc with Arkea was extremely boring for me. I don't understand why Brian Wood just handed Jubilee a baby. This is the second time an X-Men story revolved around some type of techno virus villain. I didn't care when Whedon did it and I don't care now. The art was pretty and that's about all the good I have to say about that. The second part wasn't really an arc as it was a one shot story wherein the X- Men try to save passengers in a falling plane. I really enjoyed that story! Even witho The first arc with Arkea was extremely boring for me. Even without fully understanding why Rachel was being so cold towards Ororo, I was intrigued. I loved Psylocke and working together. I really enjoyed the subplot with Wolverine hanging out with Jubilee and Shogo. A very solid issue. I even enjoyed the throwback issue to when Jubilee first met the X-Men. It was a really great issue full of strong female characters that I actually care about. I have to say, this is my favorite X-Men lineup from any book I've read so far. Storm, Jubilee, Psylocke, Dazzler and Rogue. I love seeing them work together, there was some humor here but most importantly, I love that Jubilee admires their pride in their abilities. I generally like Brian Wood's work, but this was I dunno It seems natural that a team of female X-Men would arise. I haven't followed X-Men regularly in years, but the women always seemed stronger than the men, emotionally and psychologically, and therefore it's not a stretch to see them get together and do their thang. The initial plot is ok. An alien life form who is a sister to someone the X-Men have fought before comes to Earth and tries to wipe out humanity. Along the way, Jubilee and a baby are followed by the brother, and a X-Man who is in medical stasis gets infiltrated by this alien sister. This causes heartache down the road, and a subsequent moral dilemma. Then, the whole thing is solved in one panel. That's it. Go home, it's done. I'm not even sure how it happened. It just did. Then there is a sort of spot light on Jubilee and Wolverine, and a reprint of the 80s comic where she first appeared. I know the book was about to tie into Battle of the Atom, but there really could have been a lot more depth to the story, the fight scene, etc. I don't know enough about these characters to know if the individual characterizations were on point or not, but they read well enough. Whoa this was one of the more fun X-men titles I've read in awhile. So Jubilee wants to come home to the X-Men. That's her family and sometimes everyone needs their family a little bit. However, the baby is bringing something along with it. This is all about the X-Men female team and them working out their differences and becoming a team. We got older members like Storm and Rachel but newer, younger ones, like Kitty and Jubilee. Together they must take down a almost unstoppable machine like vill Whoa this was one of the more fun X-men titles I've read in awhile. Together they must take down a almost unstoppable machine like villain who's taken over the body of their teammate while also learning to work together. Good: I really enjoyed the dialog in here. Easy, fun, and most of all the characters felt like a team. I also liked the very last issue since it got to show Jubilee in a new way, how much she cares for the baby she's brought with her, and how much Logan has grown. It's heartfelt and well done as well as the other side of the story of the women working to become a team. Bad: The many enemy gets taken out a little too easy. Overall this was really really fun. What a HUGE disappointment. Brian Wood! DMZ, Northlanders! So excited by the all ladies all the time, they forgot about plot, or good writing, or character interactions that make sense. ME to stop caring. John Sublime some uber-badass, now seemingly in need of the X- wo Men to help him, says that his twin sister's Hard Drive? USB Stick? Or some shit is alive and has tricked it's way into the Jean Grey School. But do any of these normally rational women make a single mention of baby napping a foreign child who may have parents waiting for it? Jubes is about the only one who feels bad about it, and when Mallrat feels bad about something it usually involves Orange Julius being out of slurpees So, cue up evil sister "entity" which possesses some chiquita banana who's been in a coma while Beast tries to figure out how to save her In the midst of it, Storm is ready to make the decision to take her out in order to stop the entity. Apparently Mz. Rachel Grey doesn't care for this. Funny enough, they decide to make this into a high school popularity bitch fest contest. Instead of saying um I was Queen of Wakanda, I have been to the future, I survived getting busy with Wolverine, and I've had the Black Panther inside of me No euphemism actually , oh and I've been an X-Man since before you were a dirty thought in your dad's brain; they go to a full out leadership debate. Hint: if you want a cool new team of ladies, then don't try and make them just like the men we DO NOT need you fighting like X and Magneto, Cyclops and Wolvie or anyone else. Just show you're better than that by getting along. It just feels awkward and forced, like someone said "better have a leadership crisis". Shiver me timbers that's hot. After letting the "all-girls book" hype die down, it took me a while to even notice this was so XX-laden - the characters just seem like they're naturally working together, no specific reasons given or needed. They just deal with shit and operate like they belong. Which they do. It's pretty awesome to see post-feminism done right. What's even better about this is Wood doesn't waste time explaining every little step of the plot - his characters seem to say just exactly enough to communicate effectively with each other, no excess exposition on the page "for the reader" to have to wade through. It's a tough balance - I know the X-verse pretty well so I don't find any of the missing details jarring, and I'd be frustrated by the connective tissue - but I wonder if this book reads harder for newbies. Well, can't say I'm complaining so onwards. Love any character with lack of hesitation, female or male. Love them more when we get beyond pretty stereotypes. And Jesus, for once we find Psylocke dressed in something other than a Miss America costume? I cannot imagine what it must be like to try to fight supervillains in a friggin onesie. If I was running around in a banana hammock I'd be worried about the jewels getting stomped or dinged, and I think I'd be covered in Spidey-brand band-aids from all the incidental scrapes and nicks I'd have to deal with. I once heard someone say that comics can be told with an unlimited budget, so why didn't we get to see the climactic battle play out? Artistic choice is the only explanation, but not necessarily a satisfying one. I can only hope that Wood will tease us with the actual events in coming issues, like some moment of regret and horror that no one could quite believe and which the team are all still coping with. Compared to doing that cold-blooded murder in Remender's X-Force though - he had no trouble showing us the act and lording it over our heads afterwards too. The art team does a clean job and I like most of the character renders though Rogue's face looks a little sunken-pumpkin-after-Halloween to me. This is a pretty book as well as an enjoyable read.
