RECOMMENDATIONS:

A. That the City Council designate the unnumbered location situated one sidewalk square southerly of and between numbered locations 77a and 77A as shown on Sheet #10 of Plan D-13 788 for the Hollywood Walk of Fame for the installation of the name of Kate Winslet at 6262 Hollywood Boulevard.

B. Inform the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce of the Council's action on this matter.

C. That this report be adopted prior to the date of the ceremony on March 17,2014

FISCAL IMPACT STATEMENT:

No General Fund Impact. All cost paid by permittee.

DISCUSSION:

The Walk of Fame Committee of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has submitted a request for insertion into the Hollywood Walk of Fame the name of Kate Winslet. The ceremony is scheduled for Monday, March 17, 2014 at 11:30 a.m.

The communicant's request is in accordance with City Council action of October 18, 1978, under Council File No. 78-3949. Following the Council's action of approval, and upon proper application and payment of the required fee, an installation permit can be secured at 201 N. Figueroa Street, 3rd Floor, Counter 23.

The Walk of Fame Committee of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has approved the below listed name for insertion into the Hollywood Walk of Fame:

KATE WINSLET - (Category -MOTION PICTURES) Requested star location to be 6262 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the W Hotel Hollywood property situated on the South side of the street. The star for KATE WINSLET will be placed in the second row next to the original row closest to the property next to THALIA (E) and (W) also in the second row. The stars situated in the original row where star is near are OGDEN NASH \l7a) to the west and PEGGY KNUDSEN \17A) to the east. THE STAR WILL POINT EAST. According to sheet # 10plan 13788, KATE WINSLET'S star is in the second row and has no designated number. The dedication ceremony is scheduled for Monday, March 17, 2014 at 11:30a.m.

Academy Award winning actress, Kate Winslet has brought to life some of cinema's most captivating and memorable roles. Her resume consists of critically and commercially acclaimed work as well as a span of awards and honors that illustrate Kate's talent and solidify her a permanent place in cinema history. Kate won her first Academy Award, after a stunning past 5 nominations, for her role as Hannah Schmitz in Stephen Daldry's 2008 "The Reader" directed by Stephen Daldry, Kate also won a Golden Globe, SAG, BAFfA, and Critics' Choice Award, among many others, for the role. Kate also starred that year in "Revolutionary Road," which reteamed her with "Titanic" co-star Leonardo DiCaprio. "Revolutionary Road", based on the critically acclaimed novel by Richard Yates was directed by . Kate won a Golden Globe and received many nominations for her portrayal of April Wheeler.

Kate grew up in a family of and began performing for British television when she was thirteen. At the age of seventeen, she made an international name for herself in 's feature film "Heavenly Creatures". She followed that in 1995 with her role as Marianne Dashwood in 's "Sense and Sensibility". She received her first Academy Award nomination for this performance and was also nominated for a Golden Globe. She then went on to win the BAFfA and the Screen Actors Guild Award.

Kate next co-started with Christopher Eccleston in Michael Winterbottom's ':Jude" and then as Ophelia in 's "Hamlet". She appeared as the iconic survivor Rose in 's "Titanic" opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. At the age of 22, Kate received her second Academy Award nomination for this role and the honor of being the youngest actress ever to be nominated for two .

In 1997 Kate starred as Julia in "Hideous Kinky" directed by Gillies McKinnon, and in 1998 co- starred with Harvey Keitel in 's comedic drama "Holy Smoke". She also started in 's period drama "" aloug with , Joaquin Phoenix and .

In 2001 Kate started in the Richard Eyre production of "Iris", playing the young Iris Murdoch to Judi Dench's older Iris and received Golden Globe and Oscar nominations. She next started in Michael Apteds' "Enigma," a spy drama about code breakers during WWII and "The Life of David G.Ue"with . She dyed her hair blue and orange for her portrayal of the quirky Clementine in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," for which she received Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFfA nominations for Best Actress. She then went on to star opposite Johnny Depp in "Finding Nevedand," which was named the 2004 Best Film by the National Board of Review.

In 2006, Kate was seen in "All the King's Men," with Jude Law and , directed by . She then extended her voice to the animated feature "Flushed Away" and finished the year in the romantic comedy "The Holiday" opposite Cameron Diaz,Jude Law, and Jack Black. She starred opposite Patrick Wilson and Jeonifer Connelly in 's "" for which she received her fifth Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

In 2010, Kate filmed the tide role in HBO's multi award-winnig 5-part mini-series "Mildred Pierce" for which she won Emmy, Golden Glob and SAG Awards as Best Actress. She joined the ensemble cast of 's "Contagion" and starred in Roman Polanski's "Carnage" which premiered in competition at the 2011 ..

Kate's upcoming projects include 's "Labor Day" which premiered at Toronto Film Festival in which she co-stars with Josh Brolin and Tobey Magnire. The film is set to be released limited on December 25, 2013. She can also been seen next year in Neil Burger's highly anticipated big-screen version of the popular young adult novel "Divergent," which is set to be released in March 2014 as well as the indie "A Little Chaos" from director Alan Rickman in which she plays a landscape gardener involved in the creation of the gardens at Louis XIV's Versailles.

Next year she will shoot two very different roles; one in "Insurgent", the second film in the best-selling book series by Veronica Roth and the other in Jocelyn Moorhouse's "The Dressmaker," which is based on the novel of the same name by Rosalie Ham.

In 2013 Kate Winslet was awarded the CBE which she received from Queen Elizabeth II in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Discussed began by Greg Ashlock regarding looking for more national radio personalities. He approached Rush Limbaugh and Howard Stem and both declined to be considered at this time.

Discussion was held regarding terms of committee members. Mitch felt that the three positions that were to be termed out in TV, Radio and Recording still had one more year to go. Leron Gubler mentioned that this would be discussed with Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Chairman Marty Shelton in an upcoming meeting.
