Our School Preschool Songbook
September Songs WELCOME THE TALL TREES Sung to: “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” Sung to: “Frère Jacques” Welcome, welcome, everyone, Tall trees standing, tall trees standing, Now you’re here, we’ll have some fun. On the hill, on the hill, First we’ll clap our hands just so, See them all together, see them all together, Then we’ll bend and touch our toe. So very still. So very still. Welcome, welcome, everyone, Wind is blowing, wind is blowing, Now you’re here, we’ll have some fun. On the trees, on the trees, See them swaying gently, see them swaying OLD GLORY gently, Sung to: “Oh, My Darling Clementine” In the breeze. In the breeze. On a flag pole, in our city, Waves a flag, a sight to see. Sun is shining, sun is shining, Colored red and white and blue, On the leaves, on the trees, It flies for me and you. Now they all are warmer, and they all are smiling, In the breeze. In the breeze. Old Glory! Old Glory! We will keep it waving free. PRESCHOOL HERE WE ARE It’s a symbol of our nation. Sung to: “Oh, My Darling” And it flies for you and me. Oh, we're ready, Oh, we're ready, to start Preschool. SEVEN DAYS A WEEK We'll learn many things Sung to: “For He’s A Jolly Good Fellow” and have lots of fun too. Oh, there’s 7 days in a week, 7 days in a week, So we're ready, so we're ready, Seven days in a week, and I can say them all. -

Eugène Christophe cassa la fourche de son vélo et marcha 14 kilomètres avant de trouver une forge pour effectuer seul la réparation, comme l'imposait le règlement du Tour. NEW TITLES The Generous Fish BY JACQUELINE JULES, ILLUSTRATED BY FRANCES TYRRELL Inspired by Jewish folklore, The Generous Fish is the story of a young boy named Reuven who takes a verse from scripture to “cast your bread upon the waters” (Ecclesiastes 11:1) quite literally. The result of his daily act is a giant talking fish with golden scales! Boy and fish spend idyllic days together until the villagers realize those scales are real gold. Every villager has good reason to ask for one. Devorah needs clothes for her children. Old Joseph needs money for a cane. The fish says he has plenty to share. But he grows weak from giving away too much, too fast. Can Reuven stand up to the village and save his friend? Jacqueline Jules is the author of forty books for young readers, including the award-winning Zapato Power series, Never Say a Mean Word Again: A Tale from Medieval Spain, and Feathers for Peacock. A former school librarian and teacher, Jacqueline enjoys visiting schools to share her passion for reading and writing. She is a word person, who loves rearranging words on the page, the same way people have fun fitting the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle together. Jacqueline lives in Arlington, Virginia. -

Photo credit: Steffi Eger 3 Tectonic overview from Carta Geologica della Valmalenco. Data contributed by Reto Gieré. Published by Lyasis Edizioni, Sondrio, 2004 4 Foreword In the late summer of 2019, sixteen students, one intrepid van driver, and one native Alpine expert set out on a twelve-day hiking expedition across the Swiss and Italian Alps. This journey marked the fourth year that Dr. Reto Gieré has led students on a geological, historical, and gustatorial tour of his home. As a geology course, Penn in the Alps takes an ecological approach on the study of Alpine culture. Lectures range from topics on Earth sciences to Alpine folk instruments, while emphasizing the interdependence between the natural environment and human livelihood. The following pages present each student’s research paper on a selected aspect of the Alps or the Earth entire. The second part of the book contains their journal entries, in which each author shares their own gelato-permeated experience. 5 Group shot at Montebello Castle in Bellinzona, Switzerland.
