Bsa 1958 A10 Super Rocket 650Cc 2 Cyl Ohv Sold BSA 1958 A10 SUPER ROCKET 650CC 2 CYL OHV SOLD BSA 1958 A10 Super Rocket Frame # FA74335 Engine # CA10R7133 The BSA A10 and Super Rocket was the inevitable result of the relentless drive for more & more horsepower. Launched in 1957 the BSA Super Rocket had a new alloy head and an Amal TT carburettor. The first BSA A10 to be introduced in 1950 was the BSA 650 Golden Flash, & it ran through until replaced V.O.F. Yesterdays - www.yesterdays.nl - offi[email protected] - +31 495 54 60 54 | Page: 1 by unit construction in 1963. In 1954 they replaced it with the hot new BSA Road Rocket which ran until 1957. From 1958 to 1963 BSA came out with the A10 Super Rocket complete with Amal TT racing carb and racing camshaft. Externally, the BSA A10 and Super Rocket engine looked surprisingly similar to the BSA A7’s 500cc engine & was laid out the same way, with one cam behind the cylinder block, driven off the right. And while they did, in fact, share some components in common, almost everything was different. They took the A7’s 500cc 62mm bore & 82mm stroke & pushed them out to 70mm X 84mm for a new displacement of 646cc. The bore spacing was wider, so the crank was longer, so the crankcases were bigger & stronger. The one-piece forged steel crank benefited from BSA’s advanced metals division as the rod journals were ‘induction-hardened, ground & polished’. The A10 and Super Rocket also got 2-piece lightweight alloy connecting rods made of RR56 aluminum. While the BSA A7 soldiered on with an iron cylinder head, the A10 got an all-new lightweight alloy head with a shallower valve angle, reworked finning for greater airflow & enhanced cooling & a single rocker box instead of two, as on the A7. This is probably the easiest & fastest way to differentiate the two. A BSA 500 A7 will have two rocker boxes & a BSA 650 A10 Super Rocket will have one big one. This 1958 BSA Super Rocket is in a very nice and well running condition and is ready to turn its face to the horizon. MORE INFORMATION V.O.F. BSA 1949 A7 500 CC 2 CYL OHV SOLD BSA 1949 A7 The BSA A7 was a British motorcycle manufactured by Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) at their factory in Armoury Road, Small Heath, Birmingham in 1946. The 495cc BSA A7 continued in production with minor modifications until 1961.The 495cc twin cylinder engine produced 26bhp and was capable of 85mph. A single camshaft behind the cylinders operated the valves via long pushrods passing through a tunnel in the cast iron block. This system needed a considerable number of studs and nuts to fasten down the cylinder head and V.O.F. Yesterdays - www.yesterdays.nl - offi[email protected] - +31 495 54 60 54 | Page: 1 rockerboxes, many of them deeply recessed and requiring well-made box spanners or the (then uncommon) sockets. Most motorcycles of this period tensioned the primary chain by drawing or rotating the gearbox backwards on a hinge with threaded rods, this was known as pre-unit construction. The first A7 featured a fixed gearbox, bolted to the back of the crankcase, and an internal tensioner for the duplex primary chain. This gave it the appearance of unit construction and pioneered the system later used in unit-construction engines (eg BSA C12/C15, BSA B40, Triumph 3TA and on). However, in 1954 a re-design reverted to the older system. The electrics (as was universal for larger British motorcycles of the period) consisted of two independent systems, the very reliable and self-contained Lucas magneto, with a dynamo generator to charge the battery and provide lights.

Attendance at the monthly hub runs has been very good and a couple of rides out through the Yarramalong Valley have been great. Quite a few hours have been spent in the Presidential Shed sorting out a number of long overdue projects. A wave of enthusiasm has seen work going on which was long overdue. The 1971 Triumph T25SS Blazer has finally had the leaking timing case attended to and the clutch reassembled. This revealed that the clutch plates probably should be renewed and new friction plates have been ordered.

When the association lodges changes they will need to ensure all other aspects of their constitution comply with the new requirements. The chair suggests that the amendment to rule 19 should not proceed now, without first undertaking a proper review of the entire club constitution. The chair acknowledges that the meeting must proceed, as was notified to the members. The chair suggests that the passing of the special resolution without reviewing all other aspects of the constitution would be unwise.

There’s a theory about how time seems to speed up as you get older. It goes something like this: when you are 10yo, one year is a massive 10% of your life and seems like forever. When you are 100yo, one year is only a meagre 1% of your life and so it seems like nothing as it seems to pass quickly. I think it is Alzheimer’s! No committee meeting this last month due to clashing with the Geelong Show. This also knocked out the Tech/Craft night which is always a bit of fun. As it is November, members are reminded of the many events coming up this month. With the weather being nice, perhaps we will get a few more old cars out on the coffee morning.
