Theatre Museum of Vojvodina For Theatre Museum of Vojvodina Second revised edition For the 30th Anniversary of Theatre Museum of Vojvodina Нови Сад 2012. Decision on establishment of the Theatre Museum of Vojvodina, 2 THEATRE MUSEUM OF VOJVODINA The theatre culture and tradition in to- day’s Vojvodina are very specific, long and extremely rich. That is not a coincidence; Vo- jvodina is regarded as the cradle of theatre of the Slavic south. Every ethnic group of this region has taken part in the creation of that tradition. The Theatre Museum of Vojvodina was founded in order for that cultural herit- age to be preserved. The Theatre Museum of Vojvodina was founded on May 6, 1982, on Saint George’s Day, but its pre-history is related to the Thea- tre Department of the Museum of Vojvodina, Зграда у којој је смештен Позоришни which was founded in 1951 as an independ- музеј Војводине ent unit. Because of the dual character of its work (it deals with both the theatre history and the The building where Theatre museum of achievements of contemporary theatre), the Vojvodina is located Museum is a unique cultural institution in Vo- jvodina. Its field of work is highly specialized. Namely, it is so specific because its main field is, like every museum’s field of work, sys- tematic recording, research work, collecting, Дунђерсково позориште, 1895. preservation, conservation, examination and showing museum material. It collects the The Dunđerski’s theatre, 1895 facts about the current theatre events and in that way it creates the condition for research work which deals with contemporary theatre. With its analytical works and informative ma- terials, it contributes to the systematic and continual tracing and researching of current problems and events in theatre art and cul- ture. Apart from these primary activities and according to its obligations, the Museum con- tinually deals with the following: preparing publications about theatre art and publishes monographs about theatre creators and the- atre institutions. It also publishes books on drama theory: Theatre Culture in Vojvodina (Pozorišna kultura na tlu Vojvodine), Treas- ury (Riznica), Theory of Drama Art (Teorija dramske umetnosti), Special Publications (Posebna izdanja), Laurel Wreath (Lovo- rov venac) and Theatre Portraits (Pozorišni portreti). It publishes periodic publications (documentary publications The Almanac of the Theatres of Vojvodina (Almanah pozorišta Vojvodine) which is published in notebooks in every theatre season and the International Memory of the World Register Documentary film on Correspondence theatre (Serbia) 2012-79 1.0 SUMMARY Correspondence theatre is a specific form of theatre play and organization, founded in Novi Sad, Serbia in 1974. That year was a turning point in ex-Yugoslavia. The year when one cultural concept, financed and ruled by the state and governing communist party, started to fade in front of a decentralized, so called self-governing, financed by Funds. Theoretically and practically, it was implemented by a group of theatre enthusiasts under the guidance of Mladen Dražetin, as an original model of theatre culture, an extension among the masses. In the beginning, theatre performances were created in the villages and towns of ex-Yugoslavia according to manuals delivered, to the organizers from Novi Sad, from all across the world, via letters, the telephone, the radio and fax machines. The actors in the performances were both amateurs, taking their first steps and professionals opting to taste a new playing and cooperative approach, more frank and informal. The new acting stage was interactive, the protagonists attained to the audience, direct communication with the audience was established, to mutual satisfaction. Within this model, different branches of theatre were established: dramatic, comical, ecological, invitations to peacekeeping and humanitarian actions, puppet/play and live plays in children’s hospitals and institutions. Each individual spectator was provided with the opportunity to make suggestion and remarks which the writers and the acting group would later incorporate to make a new play, one which would always have a humanistic sense. The method was to join two main principles: that each person had common ideals and needs and specific ones.
