Journal of Language and Translation Volume 10, Number 3, 2020, (pp.145-155) Translation Strategies in English to Persian Translation of Children's Literature based on Klingberg's Model Alireza Bahremand * ¹ M.A. in English translation, Member of the Faculty of English Language and Literature, College of Literature and Humanities, Velayat University, Iranshahr, Iran Received: 17.8.2020 Accepted: 19.9.2020 Abstract This research sought to identify the translation strategies adopted by the translator in Persian translation of 'whatever after, Fairest of all' written by 'Sarah Mlynowski' based on Klingberg's model (1986). To achieve the objectives of the study, a qualitative content analysis design was selected for it. The corpus of the study consisted of 60 pages of the novel 'whatever after, Fairest of all' written by 'Sarah Mlynowski' and its Persian translation by Sara Farazi (2019). This work was representative of children's literature. The pages were randomly selected as the corpus of the study. For data collection purposes, after the selec- tion of the English novel and its Persian translation, the researcher and an expert in translation qualitative- ly analyzed the English texts and translations to identify the strategies used in the Persian translations of the selected pages. They did this by comparing the English and Persian texts based on Klingberg‟s model (1986). Finally, they identified the most frequent translation strategy used in the English to Persian trans- lation of the novel by calculating the frequency and percentages of the identified translation strategies. Having analyzed the data, the researcher found that the following strategies were used in the Persian translation of “Whatever after, Fairest of all” written by 'Sarah Mlynowski' based on Klingberg‟s model (1986): added explanation, deletion, localization, and substitution.

  • Denial of Causality by Hume and Answer of Commentators of Transcendent Wisdom of Mulla Sadra
e-ISSN 2289-6023 International Journal of Islamic Thought ISSN 2232-1314 Vol. 18: (Dec.) 2020 Denial of Causality by Hume and Answer of Commentators of Transcendent Wisdom of Mulla Sadra 1 MOHSEN MARVINAM 2020 July 30 Accepted: 2020 April 24 Received: ABSTRACT Hume divides all propositions into two parts: the relations of ideas and matters of fact. He considers the first part certain and matters of fact that makes us aware of the future and can take us beyond sensory perception are uncertain. He believes all reasoning about matters of fact is based on the relation of cause and effect and the principle of uniformity of nature. Based on his especial epistemology, argues that the principle of causality is a mental habit and the principle of uniformity of nature is matter of facts must be proved by experience that its proof and argument is probable that leads to a circle and ultimately expresses his skepticism. Commentators of transcendent wisdom based on the intuitive knowledge of the soul in its own works and actions, proved the idea of causality. They have discussed the unity of sensory and sensible theory, along with the principle of self-evident of causality that these theories only explain the origin of the concept of causality and its generality. However, the main question is how can causality be attributed to objective instances? In response, we have discussed the combination and sum of reason and sense using the experimental method. Keywords: causality, David Hume, Mulla Sadra, skepticism, transcendent wisdom David Hume (1711-1776) is generally considered as the most important philosopher in English and the last of the great triumvirate of “British empiricists” challenged traditional philosophical beliefs in ways that influenced the readers of his day.

By writing these chapters, I have not intended to convey a “sense of vanity”; indeed, I wish to whisper a “true epic”. What we Muslims have granted the human society, whether it be science, knowledge, thought, experiment, culture, or ethics, is the core of entire entities acquired by human – from empirical sciences to ethics, jurisprudence and law to philosophy, literature to mechanics, pathology and discovery of new medicine to political systems, personal and union interaction customs to academic tradition, aviculture and ranching to water abstraction and irrigation principles, the rules of state governance to agriculture, etc. So how comes that we Muslims are treated this way? There is no doubt that the West owes Islam, and there is no doubt that Islam is wronged by the West.

  • Esma¨Il Fasih and His War Novel, the Winter of 1983
Persica 24, 51-80. doi: 10.2143/PERS.24.0.3005373 © 2013 by Persica. All rights reserved. ESMA¨IL FASIH AND HIS WAR NOVEL, THE WINTER OF 1983 Saeedeh Shahnapour INTRODUCTION With the inception of the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988) came a new chapter in Persian litera- ture from a thematic standpoint. This period has been characterised as “the War Lite- rature” (Adabiyyat-e Jang), “the Literature of Holy Defense” (Adabiyyat-e Defa¨ Moqad- das) and “the Literature of Perseverance and Resistance” (Adabiyyat-e Paydari va Moqavemat), and focuses on the war and the issues stemming from it. Persian authors during this time opted to write long and short stories, as well as novels and memoirs about the event. Many of these writers reveal the profound impact of the conflict in their work, regardless of literary perspectives. Alternatively, others chose to combine more traditional, amorous and domestic melodramas with the aspects of the war to create their war novels.1 Martyrdom (shahadat), captivity (esarat), self-sacrifice (janbazi), bombardments (bom- baran) and “shellshock” syndrome (mouj-gereftegi) rank among the most prominent motifs described in this section of Persian fiction. The main goal of these writers was to inspire people to join the front lines and augment sentiments of military spirit. Esm¨ail Fasih (1935-2009) is considered to be one of the best Persian War novelists of the late twentieth century. With twenty-one published novels, five collections of short stories and eleven translations, he is the most prolific writer of his generation. Fasih wrote both before and after the Islamic Revolution (1978-79).

Special Issue INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HUMANITIES AND January 2016 CULTURAL STUDIES ISSN 2356-5926 Analysis of the theoretic relationship between mysticism and politics Mehdi Heydari Assistant professor of Persian language and literature group at University of Yazd [email protected] Abstract Mysticism and politics are two of the most important grown branches of human knowledge and gusto that the function of most of them is different from the other. Mostly, it is supposed that politics focuses on exterior world and mysticism tends to interior world; but despite of these differences, an obvious cooperation and accommodation aspects are seen in these two branches of human knowledge and culture in theoretical and historical terms. In this study, we intend to describe and analysis the relationship between mysticism and politics from the perspective of contemporary Persian-speaking thinkers and also Sufi (especially initial Sufis). For this purpose, at first we express the ideas of advocates and opponents of the theoretic relationship between mysticism and politics among contemporary thinkers and then we’ll analysis and evaluate them. In the next step, we’ll investigate the remarks related to this subject in initial Sufis books and finally we’ll compare and assemble them. As we shall see, despite of lack of consistency between mysticism and politics in some ways, these two have a longitudinal relationship with each other in many positions and also initial Sufis that were closer to mysticism sources have mentioned this subject implicitly. A ROBIN REDBREAST IN AN IRON CAGE: REVISITING THE INTELLECTUAL MOVEMENT OF DISSENT IN IRAN BETWEEN THE 1953 COUP AND THE 1979 REVOLUTION by Kara Abdolmaleki A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Comparative Literature Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies University of Alberta © Kara Abdolmaleki, 2018 Abdolmaleki | ii ABSTRACT In the wake of the 1953 CIA-backed coup d’état in Iran and the toppling of the democratically elected government of Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh, a cultural-political movement that opposed the Shah’s policy of rapid, authoritarian modernization emerged in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. This study proposes the concept of Bazgasht be Khish [A Return to Self] as an umbrella term that describes the various anti-colonial and critical counter-Enlightenment strains that eventually converged and formed a revolutionary force in 1979. The concept of A Return to Self was not monolithic and was defined differently by competing ideological movements. This project focuses on Ali Shariati’s consequential question, “A return to which self?” and defines it not as a regressive form of self (ethnic, racial, Islamist, etc.) but as a progressive one that is critical of hegemonic universalism, traditionalism, nativism, and fundamentalism and offers a “third way” based on a dialectical interlocution between modernity and tradition, or between East and West. The conventional literature concerning the post-coup period has often dismissed the movement of A Return to Self as nativist and, therefore, of little intellectual merit. This study takes a different perspective and proposes that it is possible to recast and theorize the post-coup intellectual movement in Iran as an attempt at a “third way,” which sought to transcend the tradition / modernity binary and offer a way out of the impasse the Iranian society was facing.
