One of my favorite Green Lantern books, ever!By N. BeitlerTitle: Green Lantern: Secret Origin (HC)Publisher: DCWriter: Geoff JohnsArtists: Ivan Reis (pencils), Oclair Albert (inks) Randy Mayor (colors), Ivan Reis and Dave McCaig (covers)Collects: Green Lantern #29-35Price: $34.75When I saw the title of this GL book, I really had to do an eye-roll and sigh. Yet another GL origin story? Hadn't this already been done half a dozen times? I can't say I was overly optimistic about liking this book or its premise. I was prepared for a Geoff Johns let-down. However, upon reading the book, I was completely swayed in the opposite direction. This book was not-at-all uninteresting or lacking in creativity. Rather than just re-hash old material, Johns masterfully weaves events of Green Lantern Hal Jordan's past with events that are taking place in his present and near future, while expounding on past events to enrich the story and explain things that needed to be explained - like why a GL would need to be flying around in a spaceship and why it would crash on Earth, of all places. In addition to adding details to Hal Jordan's GL origin, Johns also serves up more detail on the background and origin of Red Lantern Atrocitus, Abin Sur, Carol Ferris, William Hand, and Sinestro. Instead of being disappointed by this book, I was blown away by it. It really seems like Johns loves this character, as he is really pouring out his full creative power into this book and making it shine like it never has before. Johns' current run on GL will no doubt go down in history as the best ever. I can't wait to see what sorts of things he has in store for the readers when Blackest Night really gets rolling! Let's keep the good times rolling!Johns' fantastic story-telling is complimented by the fantastic artwork by Reis, Albert and Mayor. Green Lantern (for years) has been the best-looking book (in every respect) in DC's current line-up.Writing: 10/10Artwork: 9/10Cool Factor: 8/10Value: 8/10Overall: 8.75/100 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great definitive origin for Green LanternBy Raul VitoSometimes Geoff Johns can be such a funny fellow; he can come up with some goofy dialogue, fanboy situations and take a "Michael Bay" approach to doing comic books where all his great setups end up turning into not much...Just NOT with Green LanternSince revamping the franchise with the amazing Green Lantern Rebirth he has been on such a great streak, revitalizing a character (which looking at his current Aquaman run, seems to be his own special "super" power) and a franchise to place it alongside the Batman family books, as the most important (and undoubtedly commercial successful) franchises for DC Comics. At first the idea of revamping GL origin didn't seem t be such a hot idea to me, so even so many people recommended it I decided to skip it until recently, and I was more than pleased with the results, and kicking myself for not having tried it before. In his retelling of Hal Jordan first adventures Johns had the ability and foresight to plant several of the story seeds for his next storylines leading to the Blackest Night crossover.Familiar characters such as Carol Ferris are given new depth and bad guys such as Black Hand, Sinestro, Atrociuos and Hector Hammond are now believable (and quite creepy) foes for Hal to face, and by having their own storylines develop s closely to Hal's it give them a sense of intimacy that wasn't there present before. This seems in retrospective to be such a good idea since adding those very elements gave his further stories a gravitas and sense a continuity that is simple does seem to weave as one long developing story, from Rebirth, Sinestro Corps Wars, Red Lanterns, Agent Orange, Blackest Night, War of the Green Lanterns...well you get my drift. All in all this is one of the best constructed modern origins, beautifully drawn by Ivan Reis, one of my favorite modern pencilers, and this edition even includes some previews of Rebirth and Sinestro Corps War.Any GL (or discerning comic book fan in general) should give this book a try and check out further GL adventures...believe me this is a great starting point and it only gets better from here0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Green Lantern: Secret Origin HC (New Edition)By Xavier Zavala HerasI had no idea this hardcover edition was out of print. What a shame!.Anyway, if you red the Secret Origin storyline, well, this is it. No changes whatsoever on the story. Is a very good GL Origin story. Necessary for Blackest Night. Ivan Reis art is superb. Is a fun little book. Now the new extras. The introduction written by Ryan Reynolds is nothing good nor bad. It doesn't feel necessary. Is just there but doesn't move you. At the end of the book comes some sneak peak for Rebirth, Sinestro Corps war and Blackest Night. Just a couple of pages for each. For people who haven't read them it'll be cool. I have them all so I think it's ok but nothing else.I paid almost the same I paid for the paperback so I got quit a bargain. If you missed this hardcover edition, fear not, you will have the exact same content on the new paperback edition. The hardbound is not particularly beautiful. Actually is very simplistic, so don't think for a moment in paying more for this edition on Ebay or sites like that. You should be fine with the paperback. Witness the beginning of the career of the bravest Green Lantern who's ever lived as the secret origin of Hal Jordan is revealed. Discover how and why Hal received the power ring. Uncover the mystery of Abin Sur's death. Find out why Jordan's teacher and mentor, Sinestro, became obsessed with the prophecy of the apocalyptic end of the universe 'the Blackest Night'. About the AuthorGeoff Johns has written Infinite Crisis, 52, Green Lantern, X-Men, The Avengers, Superman, and much more. Ivan Reis has illustrated The Avengers, Crux, Lady Death, Iron Man, The Invisibles, and Xena: Warrior Princess. The Green Lanterns, on the other hand, represent the triumph of willpower or reason over emotion and seek to overcome and stifl e these emotional states.2 The confl ict between the various lantern corps, while provid- ing an interesting series of stories, also sets the stage for thinking about one of the most long-standing questions in ethics: What role should emotion play in moral reasoning? 7 CCH001.inddH001.indd 7 33/14/11/14/11 88:42:24:42:24 AAMM 8 JASON SOUTHWORTH Color-Coded Morality With the exception of the Indigo Lanterns (who don’t speak a language that can be translated by a Green Lantern power ring, much less your average comics reader), the representa- tives of the new color corps all make the case that acting out their sections of the emotional spectrum is the only way to achieve justice.

SUCK IT, GOYER! LOL! EXT. SPACE TOMAR-RE (V.O) Billions of years ago, when the Martians refused to serve as the Guardians’ intergalactic police force, the elders of Oa created a sentinel army based on the Martian race… they named them Manhunters. INSERT: MANHUNTERS TOMAR-RE (V.O) At first the Manhunters served diligently, maintaining law and order across the universe, until one day they began to resent their masters. A war broke out between the two forces with the Guardians winning and banishing the Manhunters across the universe, stripping them of whatever power they had left. Some of the Manhunters found their way to earth upon which entering our atmosphere they lost any and all remaining power. As centuries went by man began to unearth some of these sentinels, using their advance technology to build empires on land… and even in the sea. INSERT: ATLANTIS EXT. JUSTICE LEAGUE: ORIGINS Written by Chad Handley [email protected] EXT. PARK - DAY An idyllic American park from our Rockwellian past. A pick- up truck pulls up onto a nearby gravel lot. INT. PICK-UP TRUCK - DAY MARTHA KENT (30s) stalls the engine. Her young son, CLARK, (7) apprehensively peeks out at the park from just under the window. MARTHA KENT Go on, Clark. Scoot. CLARK Can’t I go with you? MARTHA KENT No, you may not. A woman is entitled to shop on her own once in a blue moon. And it’s high time you made friends your own age. Clark watches a group of bigger, rowdier boys play baseball on a diamond in the park. CLARK They won’t like me. MARTHA KENT How will you know unless you try? Go on. I’ll be back before you know it. EXT. PARK - BASEBALL DIAMOND - MOMENTS LATER Clark watches the other kids play from afar - too scared to approach. He is about to give up when a fly ball plops on the ground at his feet. He stares at it, unsure of what to do. BIG KID 1 (yelling) Yo, kid. Little help? Clark picks up the ball. Unsure he can throw the distance, he hesitates. Rolls the ball over instead. It stops halfway to Big Kid 1, who rolls his eyes, runs over and picks it up. 2. BIG KID 1 (CONT’D) Nice throw. The other kids laugh at him. Humiliated, Clark puts his hands in his pockets and walks away. Big Kid 2 advances on Big Kid 1; takes the ball away from him.

See Details. Hide Details. Really poor way to end a fun series. Green Lantern: New Guardians Volume 6, not everything about the artwork is positive. So the ring flies off to find it's bearer and Kyle and Carol finish off this series by saving the day, creating a new status quo for the White Lantern and going home. Lists with This Book. If I were a fan of Kyle, I would have probably loved this. However, Kyle instead feels sad and Atrocitus decides to take him to a war-torn country. Bleez returns to the headquarters of the Red Lanterns, and the other five leave Larfleeze to investigate, accompanied by one of Larfleeze's constructs. Saint Walker believes its secret location was revealed to The Reach by Larfleeze, and the New Guardians go to confront him. Green Lantern Vol. However, outside of this, the rest of these chapters are pretty lackluster. All in all, this is a decent if uninspiring conclusion to the series, Green Lantern: New Guardians Volume 6 pretty good art and some decent action moments.

Prepare for the Black LanternsBy B. ReinsteinThis is a multi part story that is a mix of emotions, literally. The first few parts of the story are very slow, stick with it, it gets better. The art is nice and for a newbie to the storyline it was not intimidating to read.I read this because I wanted some back story on the characters from Injustice 2, and this is where I decided to start, to see if I could follow an arc and to see if I wanted to read more. Thankfully the first parts being slow didn't intimidate me. I had fun with this read and will read more DC comics in the future.26 of 27 people found the following review helpful. Without This Book Blackest Night Makes Little SenseBy David SwanI gave Blackest Night four stars because it was pretty much relentless action almost from beginning to end and I felt readers need the occasional breather. It also seemed to be incomplete, missing a lot of back story with events happening with no resolution. Having read THIS book (confusingly ALSO called Blackest Night) it's clear to me that the actual story is interlaced between the core Blackest Night series and the ongoing Green Lantern series and possibly the Lantern Corps series.
