Feb 21, James DeSantis rated it liked it. Ah man we were on such a high running streak. This one Saying that though, it's still fun! So we have Kyle and Guy finally opening up their restaurant. Of course, cooking Earth food for the universe might Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire a little trickier than they thought. Especially when they have to teach aliens how to cook. On of that we have to get back to Guy's date he promised. Oh, and someone is killing family members of the Green Lanterns. That's a no-no. The second half of Ah man we were on such a high running streak. The second half of this book dives into my least favorite part of the Green lantern Mythos. The "love" ring. Good: I liked the opening a lot. Kyle and Guy have a lot of bromance going on and it works on almost every level. The disturbing imagery of flying eyeballs and to the family is a lot to take in but at the same time it makes this feel like a real threat, and I appreciate that. I also thought as always the fights were pretty cool to see. Bad: The 2nd half is very wordy and boring mostly because I hate the love ring and everything to do with those powers. Also, the great reappears but his stuff feels a bit rushed here. Overall, a good book but not great. It needs to find it's footing once more. The story is a throwback to the days when wizened, old blue gnomes ruled the Green Lantern Corps with cold, unemotional detachment. Not that it is missed; as a reader. I actually preferred Hal Jordan in the Jim Gordon role as Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire of an intergalactic police force. This was supposed to be cool down arc, after the events of the last one which ended with Mongul's arm detached at the shoulder. This was smartly plotted and stuctured. It's a bunch of inter-related short stories that tie and also leads in to a larger story . I have actually read this years before, individually as single issues and revisiting it, I kind of wondered why I didn't follow this into Blackest Night. Jan 01, Bradley rated it really liked it Shelves: graphic-novelsfantasysci-fishelf. All the various angles are fun, like skittles, but I have to wonder if the force of love really ought to be demonized like this. Sure, it seems so nice right now, but the story is telegraphing big-boobed doom right across the universe. Just why aren't there more violet corps who are fugly men? Do you guys think that only well-shaped bosoms have the power to love? Oct 21, Mateo Cruz rated it it was amazing. But they have no intention for two reasons they believe in the power of loveand they only fight to preserve love of beings of the universe. I think that in the book the art grapics are spectacular to show almost every battle, every argument to be seeing a movie of something but one thing that the artist could change is probably the environment because of Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire fight scene did not do well to the fighting and how the planet was almost rock. Another thing is the setting of the fight could been taken place in a jungle full of poisonous plants that could kill anyone who comes in contact and have to keep the adrenalin going or die in 15 minutes. But everything was alright. Aug Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire, Barbara rated it really liked it Shelves: dc-comicsgraphic-novelsgreen-lantern. A new corps, the Star Sapphires emerges, from the Zamarons, immortal beings who split from the Guardians millennia ago since they believe in the power of love to heal while the Guardians value logic and reason and seek to shut out the emotional spectrum entirely. Yellow Lantern Kryb appears, and she's far scarier than the Quintet seen in the "Eye of the Beholder" storyline. In the pages of Green Lanterna ton is going on--not only has Sinestro put together his own Corps wielding yellow fear-based ringsbut we have also been introduced to the heretofore unseen except in a splash page in Green Lantern 25 Red Lantern Corpsand their leader . However, since we know that the "Blackest Night" prophecy involves the creators of the Green So I've gotten to the point of reading the era Green Lantern related books where Blackest Night is eminent. However, since we know that the "Blackest Night" prophecy involves the creators of the Green Lantern Corps the focus of this bookit's a given that the book is also going to lead into Blackest Night. However, this book isn't being curated by Johns who was likely handling monthly Green Lantern writing chores while also penning Blackest Night and it feels like writer is getting his marching orders from Johns, who needs to make sure that all of the power rings of the color spectrum are represented properly at this point, we have yet to be introduced to the orange or indigo rings, but that is likely to take place in the Hal Jordan centered Green Lantern because that's where all of the new rings have popped up. As such, most of the action here revolves around the colors we have been familiar with since came up with the Green Lantern--the Sinestro Corps and the Star Sapphires. I think my issue with this collection is the fact that the story arcs feel like they are keeping time in order to get to Blackest Night. While the revelations are coming fast and furious in Jordan's book, we just get more fallout from The Sinestro Corps War and Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire challenge to Sinestro in Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire aftermath. It is insinuated at the end of Rage of the Red Lanterns that Sinestro was coming to resolve it, but I think that is handled in the next volume. Yes, we are introduced to a new Star Sapphire, but it feels like she is there to show how the Zamarons induct people into their Corps since we've seen how it's done for the green, yellow, red and blue rings at this point. But Tomasi isn't breaking new ground here, and I think all of the good stuff is being held back by Johns, since it's his vision. This doesn't make this collections necessarily bad, but it does feel superfluous and makes me just say "can we just get to Blackest Night already? No recent wiki edits to this page. Originally there was only one Star Sapphire and that was . In the silver age of comics she was both a friend and foe to Hal Jordan. She was imbued with the power of the Star Sapphire which made her mad with love though this showed itself in very negative ways. The power was given to her by the Zamarons. When it was revealed by prophecy in the Book of Oa that numerous Lantern Corps would emerge, one became apparent to be the Star Sapphire Corps. After one of the Zamarons was possessed by a Star Sapphire gemthe race of females realized that the gems were simply too overpowering and unwieldy to use. So it was that the Zamarons decided to learn from the Guardians of the Universe and refashioned the gems into power rings and create the Corps and the Violet Lantern. Unlike with the gems the wielders of the rings were aware of their actions and could control the impulses of the rings. In so doing they changed the legacy of the Star Sapphire from being a single villain to a group of heroes which included Carol. The Star Sapphire Corps is more of an evolution of the single character represented by Carol Ferris for many years. The modern version was created by Geoff Johns. Throughout the majority of the team's history there has been only one member of the Star Sapphire Corps, and that was Carol Ferris. Occasionally the gem would take control of another for instance Cowgirl. Rather than have the Star Sapphires be gem-possessed beings running wild through the universe, they would become a corps like the Green Lanterns and the Sinestros. They would also prepare for the prophecized Blackest Night. This new context for the Star Sapphire portrayed them as less villainous and more of an ideological opposition to the Green Lantern Corps. Rather than imprisonment and punishment, the Star Sapphire Corps' ideology revolved around forced rehabilitation. True to their history as Star Sapphires, when they try to convert someone this often takes the form of a protective crystal wherein one Star Sapphire can discuss the benefits with the potential recruit of joining. This has happened with both and Bleezthough neither recruiting examples were successful. Like many of the Lantern Corps, the Star Sapphires lose the occasional member in combat, but since expanding to a Corps, the most frequently seen members have been Carol Ferris, and Miri Riam. For further details: Sins of the Star Sapphire. The Star Sapphire rings were sent out to recruit members and bolster their ranks. The first member of the newly created Star Sapphire Corps was Miri Riam who, after the death of her husband due to an attack by Mongulaccepted her ring's offer to fill the void in her heart. She soon allied with a team of Green Lanterns trying to prevent Kryb from killing any more members of their corps and stealing children. As their recruitment continued, female Sinestro Corps members who had been scattered throughout the universe after the Sinestro Corps War were tracked down and brought to . Karu-SilKryb and Fatality were among those captured and placed in crystal chambers to be converted into Star Sapphires. Soon the Star Sapphires' violet light became too bright for the Guardians to ignore and a delegation was sent to Zamaron to negotiate. The Zamarons could not be convinced out of their course of action, feeling that it was the Guardians who had become out of touch with the universe and too detached from emotion, so Queen Aga'po continued her expansion of the Star Sapphire Corps, recruiting Carol Ferris among their number, but she was not simply meant to be another Star Sapphire, Carol was meant to lead the Star Sapphire Corps. For further details: Blackest Night. Sinestro led an attack on Zamaron to liberate his captured Sinestro Corps soldiers and clashed one-on-one with Carol Ferris. Many of his captured soldiers were freed including Karu-Sil, Kryb, and Kiriazis. The Star Sapphires seemed overwhelming by the Sinestro Corps, and Carol soon found herself at the mercy of Sinestro and some of his soldiers, but a contingent of Black Lanternsall deceased members of the Sinestro Corps, appeared and interrupted the battle. The already strained Star Sapphire Corps was then forced into a battle against the Black Lantern Corpsand the Sinestro Corps became their unlikely allies in the fight. The Star Sapphires' violet crystals were completely ineffective because the Black Lanterns did not Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire love. The crippling blow to the Star Sapphires came when two black power rings flew into the heart of their Central Power Battery and reanimated the crystallized dead lovers within. The Predator broke free of its confinement, and the Star Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire Corps had lost. Despite this devastating loss, the Star Sapphires regrouped with members of the other Corps of Light to engage the bulk of the on Earth as a final line of defense. Meanwhile on Earth, Carol was on the front line with representatives of the other corps. The desperate circumstances enacted an emergency protocol in Carol's ring that spawned another power ring to deputize a person for a hour period. This person was . The expectation that the combined light of the full Emotional Spectrum would destroy proved to be wrong, leaving Carol and her allies at a loss for how to stop the Blackest Night. It was not until Nekron summoned that Entity that a possibility arose. Sinestro became the herald of the White Lantern Corpsand soon those heroes who had been resurrected in the past become brief members of the White Lantern Corps. The Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire of the white light resurrected , cutting off Nekron's access to the universe. For further details: . Left in dire straits by the loss of the crystallized remains of Khufu and Chay-Ara, the Star Sapphire Corps needed to recapture the Predator entity in order to reignite their Central Power Battery. Carol succeeded in locating and reining in the Predator in Las Vegas, where it had taken an obsessed stalker as its host. Upon bringing the Predator back to Zamaron, Carol could no longer allow the Zamarons to go through with their plan of exploiting it to reignite the corps' power. Her plea for the Predator's sake touched Queen Aga'po in such a way that the leader of the Star Sapphire Corps chose to Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire her own love and life to bring light back to Zamaron. Shortly after Carol's rise to leadership, Queen and an army of Manhawks attacked Zamaron with and in tow to aid in Zamaron's defense. This attempt to steal the power of the Star Sapphire Corps was defeated, and Carol sent the two heroes home to finally enjoy their new lives together. The Star Sapphires continue to fight for love, however when the Star Sapphire from Sector 22 looses her ring while defending a family from pirates, ending up with Kyle Rayner. Fatality is drawn into the investigation. She is initially led to Earth where she discovers other representatives from other Corps including , Arkillo, Munk and . After protesting his innocence, the group heads to Oa and then to Okaara in search of answers before being forced to confront Invictus. Fatality and Bleez showed some understanding of one another at times and Fatality thus tries to forcibly convert her to the Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire Sapphire Corps. Meanwhile on Earth Carol has Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire to not don her ring even though she still acts as the Queen of the Star Sapphires. In many ways, Star Sapphires are similar to Green Lanterns in capability. They are capable of intergalactic travel, surviving Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire environments such as exposed space and creating energy construct. Their more unique abilities include encasing beings within violet crystals. Beings within these crystals are kept in stasis and psychically bombarded with thoughts of love. This is the primary means the Star Sapphire Corps uses to forcibly rehabilitate violent beings. The emotion channeled by the Star Sapphires, Love, is shown as a flexible emotion, as opposed to singular emotions like willpower or rage, love can be channeled as love for a lover, love for her children, or even love for a concept, such as Guy Gardner briefly using a ring via his love for the Green Lantern Corps. Because violet is at one of the extreme ends of the Emotional Spectrum, members of the Star Sapphire Corps are susceptible to being mentally compromised by their own power. Many Star Sapphires lose a portion of their own free will, following the beating heart of their Central Power Battery. They may take extreme measures to show their love, such as killing and sealing their loved ones in crystal to be together forever. Carol Ferris is one of the few able to resist the effects of the violet light. Leader : ZamaronsCarol Ferris formerly. Green Lantern Corps, Volume 4: Sins of the Star Sapphire by Peter J. Tomasi

Writer: Peter Tomasi. Letterer: Steve Wands. Publisher: DC. Give Us A Story Breakdown. This book takes place after the last time we saw our Lanterns during Ring Quest. After defeating Mongul and leaving him to be digested by a giant hallucinogenic plant, the corps has time for rest, relaxation and running drills with the rookies. This has both new and old members in a panic and to prevent corps members from going off half- cocked, Kyle Rayner sets out with a team to track down these murderous yellow light users. While Kyle and his team are tackling the Sinestro Corps in this run, the other large portion of this book is introducing the Star Sapphires. Here is where we get to see the first Star Sapphire ring select a wielder and we witness the transformation of someone who lost everything to someone who has gained new love and purpose. This prelude to Blackest Night and the introduction of the other corps gives us a great opportunity to see how the Starr Sapphires operate. The Guardians, accompanied by Guy Gardner and others, get to meet on the homeworld of the Star Sapphires for diplomatic discussions, that let us as the reader know what makes love such a dangerous but powerful emotion to be Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire. Tell Us About The Artists. The first to issue feature Luke Ross as the artist. The art was pretty solid through the issues with some really great panels that stood out for the artist such as man covered in eyeballs. If this guy ever got ahold of a Lantern ring, he would be unstoppable. Mayor, Ruffino, and Eltaeb on colors did excellent with bouncing between the three lantern corps focused in here. Whether it was Star Sapphire, Green Lanterns or Sinestro Corps, the colors and palettes to Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire each specific one really stood out in a great way. Talk About Tomasi. If this book was like creating a construct of pure willpower while in the middle of a dozen enemy lanterns, Tomasi would pull this off without breaking a sweat. I can barely have any success juggling 3 things yet Tomasi does it with such ease. So casually he does this that he even has time to give us really quick, but interesting explorations of relationships between different characters. Take Us Out Of Here. There ya poozers have it. This read was very quick Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire to some of my more recent books in the votes. Quick, despite the fact that there are so many different things happening in it. If you are looking for a Green Lantern story that can give you some really good space cop action while at Green Lantern Corps Sins of the Star Sapphire same time having some real entertaining day to day character explorations, this is a book you should have your ring scanning for.
