MESSAGE FROM MAYOR FRANK CAMPION On October 22nd I participated in the virtual Welland Pelham Chamber of Commerce Fall Series Community Update where I shared a number of our recent key successes. Empire Communities The of Welland has established a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Empire Communities. One of Canada’s largest housing development companies purchased land in Dain City and is proposing to build 2,500 new homes. This development will be built out in three phases, from south to north. Included in these plans will be commercial development, parks, pedestrian trails and waterfront paths. As part of the MOU agreement, Empire Communities will design and construct the replacement of the Forks Road Bridge as well as build a new outdoor flatwater multi-use sports facility and other recreational amenities adjacent to the Welland International Flatwater Centre (WIFC). Memorandum of Understanding - Niagara Ports I have been working on this initiative for the past 5 years and am extremely pleased to be collaborating with our partner municipalities, HOPA and the Federal Government on the Niagara Ports Project. Through this partnership we become an integral part of the Canadian Trade Corridor with national and international business implications and opportunities for Welland and Niagara. The signing of this MOU re-enforces our commitment to work collaboratively and strategically to turn our collective vision of having Port Hubs in , Welland and into reality. The City of Welland is proud to be part of this partnership and looking forward to the establishment of the Niagara Ports. Lancaster Park On September 23rd, I participated in the ground-breaking of Lancaster Park in the City’s north end. This build is undertaken by SkyDev, part of Skyline Group of Companies. The mid-rise complex is scheduled for occupancy in the of 2022. McDonald’s Restaurant on Lincoln Street I attended the new McDonald’s Ribbon Cutting on September 9th. This McDonald’s location employs 104 people. Grand Canal Retirement Residence Plaza Corp Development new five-storey, 130 unit residence along the Welland Recreational Canal next to the Welland Community Wellness Complex is scheduled to open May 2021. For information on the Grand Canal Retirement Residence visit their website www.grandcanal.ca Community Boat House The new Community Boat House at the Lincoln Street Docks will showcase our beautiful Recreational Canal and will offer a community inspired social hub for families and athletes. The site is expected to be ready by late May of 2021.

CNTNR CNTNR repurposes steel shipping cans to build energy-efficient buildings of any kind. A 125,000 square-foot manufacturing plant located at the former plant hopes to employ up to 200 people. Distillery NB Distillers/Liq’D Sprits formerly known as Canadiana Organic Distillery Corp. have purchased a large piece of property adjacent to the Flatwater Centre where they hope to build their new facility which will include dining and other amenities. Holiday Inn Express Located on Power Drive off Woodlawn Road is expected to open March 2021. RowOntario RowOntario has selected Welland’s site for their new Performance Centre. The Economic Development Team continues to support private sector development and stimulate new business and industry and are always one step ahead of the competition. All the businesses and industries in our City play a vital part in the local economy. I am so proud of the work we’ve done as a City and with our partners. During these unprecedented times our City continues to thrive.
