ED 1 Bounded on the East by the Parish of Glenmuick; on the South by the Parishes of Glenmuick & Kirkmichael; on the West by the Old Parish of Braemar; and on the North by the River Dee – the population is almost exclusively confined to Strath Gurnock, & the vale of the Dee -- The greater part of the District is wild and uncultivated. The surface is very irregular, swelling up, in someplace into hills of considerable height – Along the Dee, on the North, are extensive woods of Birch & Fir, the remains of the ancient Forest of . Houses at the head of the river , is exclusively confined to the vale of the Dee – the rest of the district is, mostly, covered with heath – the surface is very irregular.
