Amongst its many goals, HDDT is committed to helping our community be as active and healthy as possible, as well as reducing the impact of our carbon emissions. The Huntly Green Travel Hub is a key outlet for helping achieve these goals, through our community car share and e-bike hire scheme. There are three vehicles for use in our car club and 14 (soon to be 24) electric bikes for hire. We are also focusing on several other travel related projects, including creating safe routes to school, electric vehicle charging points and path network development. For the last two years, HDDT’s work in this area has been supported by Paths for All’s Smarter Choices, Smarter Places (SCSP) Open Fund. The fund aims to encourage people to change their behaviour to walk or cycle as part of their everyday short journeys. In that time, we have seen our car club and e-bike usage rise significantly. With government targets to stop production of all new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030, coupled with the Scottish Government announcement of £500 million to active travel projects over the next 5 years, this is a very exciting and rapidly growing sector. -
3 Alternatives Considered
Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route Environmental Statement Part A: The Scheme 3 Alternatives Considered 3.1 Introduction 3.1.1 This chapter provides an outline of the development of the AWPR including an overview of the assessment work that has been undertaken in the selection of a preferred route and a summary of the objectives of the proposed scheme. 3.2 Background 3.2.1 As described in Chapter 2 (Need for the Scheme), a peripheral route around Aberdeen has been considered since the 1950s, and in the 1990s a western leg route corridor was proposed (the Western Peripheral Route; WPR). The WPR as identified by Grampian Regional Council and its successor authorities was subsequently extended to link with the A90 north of Aberdeen by NESTRANS. The route corridor comprising the WPR and this additional link was named the AWPR and in April 2003 was adopted and promoted by the Scottish Executive as a Trunk Road within a funding partnership of the Scottish Executive, Aberdeen City Council, and Aberdeenshire Council. 3.2.2 The AWPR was refined within this corridor from April 2003 until December 2004, when Transport Scotland requested that consideration be given to additional corridors. In December 2005, following consideration of the alternative corridors, including public consultation held in Spring 2005, the Minister for Transport announced that the AWPR would be taken forward on the Milltimber Brae Route with a Fastlink to Stonehaven. 3.2.3 Various options have been considered at each of the stages described above. The option consideration process included production of many reports and papers that set out the engineering, economic and environmental advantages and disadvantages of alternative routes and corridors. -

I admit I have a peculiar liking for Bennachie, that "King of common hills". But to our tale. My friend and I left Aberdeen with, the 8.5 a.m. train on New-Year's Day, and in due course arrived at Pitcaple. We spent little time in the vicinity of the station, for there was nothing very attractive—everything appeared to be wrapt in slumber. We were at the Maiden Stane and into the Woods of Pittodrie in a comparatively short time, the morning wind making our ears tingle. But what a refreshing and invigorating effect it had as compared with what we had felt in the city! We had not gone far up the hill road when snow began to make its appearance, at first in little patches; but very soon we found that the road was practically snowed up, while here and there the snow had been blown into beautiful, fantastic shapes. The surface of the snow was, on the whole, quite hard, but occasionally we found our- selves on a soft bit, where we floundered, sometimes disappearing almost out of sight, until we got on to the hard snow again. On arriving at the Oxen Craig we had a remarkably good view in some dii'ections; the hills to the north were white from top to bottom. -

THE MARQUIS OF HUNTLY, “COBBIE” AND “THE KING OF FORGUE” 1800s ames Allardes had inherited Boynsmill Estate in 1800, but by 1802 was living at J Cobairdy, where, although only the tenant of John Morison of Auchintoul, he lived very much the lifestyle of a laird and acquired the sobriquet of “Cobbie” as a result. One of his neighbouring landowners was the Duke of Gordon, and both men knew each other and had mutual dealings, especially when it came to improving the estate boundaries between lands at Kinnoir and Cobairdy. Aberdeen Journal 24 February 1802 The Duke’s son and heir, George, Marquis of Huntly at this time lived at Huntly Lodge, and oversaw the running of his father’s estates in the Huntly area, and became closely acquainted with James Allardes and also with Alexander Shand, in Conland. The outcome of these friendships was that these two prominent men of Forgue society were regular guests of the Marquis at his lavish parties. Portlethen Moss - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Page 1 of 4 Portlethen Moss NFrom, 2°8′50.68 Wikipedia,″W (http://kvaleberg.com/extensions/mapsources the free encyclopedia /index.php?params=57_3_27.04_N_2_8_50.68_W_region:GB) The Portlethen Moss is an acidic bog nature reserve in the coastal Grampian region in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Like other mosses, this wetland area supports a variety of plant and animal species, even though it has been subject to certain development and agricultural degradation pressures. For example, the Great Crested Newt was found here prior to the expansion of the town of Portlethen. Many acid loving vegetative species are found in Portlethen Moss, and the habitat is monitored by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. True heather, a common plant on the The Portlethen Moss is the location of considerable prehistoric, Portlethen Moss Middle Ages and seventeenth century history, largely due to a ridge through the bog which was the route of early travellers. By at least the Middle Ages this route was more formally constructed with raised stonework and called the Causey Mounth. Without this roadway, travel through the Portlethen Moss and several nearby bogs would have been impossible between Aberdeen and coastal points to the south. Obviously only the outcrops and ridge areas would have been habitable, but the desirability of primitive habitation would have been enhanced by proximity to the sea and natural defensive protection of the moss to impede intruders.
