The Médoc and Hourtin The CVHM is located on the North shore of the Hourtin lac, 60km north of Bordeaux at the east side of the famous Medoc Wine Region. With 58km2, the Hourtin lake is one of the largest natural freshwater lake in France. It extends from within the Médoc on a length of about 20 km and a width of 5 km. The Medoc Region The region is a fantastic spot for those who look for combining sport, culture and leasure. Landes forest and large lakes with many cycling path The Arcachon basin with various cultural sites The historical city of Bordeaux wild Atlantic beaches for surfing the Médoc, castles, vineyards and wines ... It has excellent accommodation capacity (hotels, residential hotels, holiday villages, rentals, camping, ...) The Medoc district of Bordeaux, amid its coastal lagoons, sand dunes and pine forests, is home to four of the world's most prestigious wine villages. The chateaux located in these villages – among them Margaux, Mouton, Lafite and Latour – produce some of the world's most expensive wines. Wedged between the Atlantic coastline and the broad Gironde estuary, the Medoc is effectively a peninsula (presqu'île in French). It extends 50 miles (80km) north-westwards from Bordeaux city to the Pointe de Grave headland, whose sandy, gravelly terrain hints at what lies beneath the Medoc vineyards, and makes the area quite so well suited to viticulture.
