Gillette Museum of Arthropod Diversity, Department of Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 80523 Abstract A list of 1531 species ofLepidoptera is presented, collected over 15 years (1988 to 2002), in eleven southern West Virginia counties. A variety of collecting methods was used, including netting, light attracting, light trapping and pheromone trapping. The specimens were identified by the currently available pictorial sources and determination keys. Many were also sent to specialists for confirmation or identification. The majority of the data was from Kanawha County, reflecting the area of more intensive sampling effort by the senior author. This imbalance of data between Kanawha County and other counties should even out with further sampling of the area. Key Words: Appalachian Mountains, -

Anania coronata (Hufnagel), a Holarctic species of pyraustine crambid moth, has long been treated as having two geographically separated subspecies – the nominotypical Anania coronata in the Palaearctic Region and Anania coronata tertialis (Guenee)´ in the Nearctic Region. Maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analysis of mitochondrial DNA barcodes both recover four well-supported, reciprocally monophyletic groups within Anania coronata. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of genital structures reveal diagnostic differences that correspond to the four barcode lineages. On the basis of both molecular and morphological evidence, we conclude that Anania coronata is actually a complex of four species. -

Adults of beet webworm Loxostege sticticalis were collected in Western Siberia in 2009 and 2010. A microsporidium was found infecting 12 of 50 moths in 2010. The parasite develops in direct contact with host cell cytoplasm, sporogony is presumably disporoblastic. The spores are ovoid, diplokaryotic, 4.2 × 2.4 µm in size (fresh), without a sporophorous vesicle. Electron microscopy showed: (a) tubules on the surface of sporoblasts and immature spores; (b) slightly anisofilar polar tube with 10–14 coils, last 2–3 coils of lesser electron density; (c) bipartite polaroplast with anterior and posterior parts composed of thin and thick lamellae, respectively; (d) an indentation in the region of the anchoring disc; (e) an additional layer of electron-dense amorphous matter on the exospore surface. The spore ultrastructure is char- acteristic of the genus Tubulinosema. Sequencing of small subunit and large subunit ribosomal RNA genes showed 98–99.6% similarity of this parasite to the Tubulinosema species available on Genbank. The nomenclature of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) comb, rev., a species which has been described three times and of which the names have been placed in three different subfamilies of Crambidae, is investigated. The generic name Maelinoptera Staudinger, 1893 syn. n. is revised as a junior subjective synonym of Evergestis Hübner, 1825 and the type-species of this monotypic genus, Hercyna anartalis Staudinger, 1892, is transferred to Evergestis. Evergestis heliacalis Zerny, 1914 syn. n. and Noctuelia anartalis Hampson, 1918 syn. n., are considered as junior subjective synonyms of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) (Hercyna). Evergestis anartalis Hampson, 1918 (Noctuelia) therefore becomes a junior secondary homonym of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) (Hercyna). Lectotypes of Hercyna anartalis Staudinger, 1892 and Evergestis heliacalis Zerny, 1914 are designated. Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) is redescribed; adults, male and female genitalia are illustrated. According to the specimens investigated, it is assumed that Evergestis anartalis is endemic to sub-alpine and alpine altitudes in Central Asia. Key words. Evergestis anartalis, taxonomic revision. Ledeganckstraat 35, B-9000 Ghent, Belgium Abstract The nomenclature and the diagnostic characters of the genus Achyra Guenée are discussed. Besides the known synonyms Eurycreon Lederer and Tritaea Meyrick, Dosara Waeker is also considered as a new synonym for the genus. PLANT1*, STOYAN BESHKOV2, PREDRAG JAKŠIĆ3, ANA NAHIRNIĆ2 114 West Road, Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire, CM23 3QP, England 2National Museum of Natural History, Sofia, Bulgaria 3Faculty of Natural Science and Mathematics, University of Priština, Kosovska Mitrovica, Serbia ABSTRACT Pyraloidea (Lepidoptera: Crambidae & Pyralidae) were sampled in the territories of southern Serbia, Montenegro, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Albania on a total of 53 occasions during 2014, 2016 and 2017. A total of 173 species is reported here, comprising 97 Crambidae and 76 Pyralidae. Based upon published data, 29 species appear to be new to the fauna of Serbia, 5 species are new to the fauna of Macedonia and 37 are new to the fauna of Albania. The data are discussed.
