F. V. Corley, E. Marabuto, E. Maravalhas, P. Pires & J. P. Cardoso Abstract 38 species are added to the Portuguese Lepidoptera fauna and two species deleted, mainly as a result of fieldwork undertaken by the authors in the last year. In addition, second and third records for the country and new food-plant data for a number of species are included. A summary of papers published in 2007 affecting the Portuguese fauna is included. KEY WORDS: Insecta, Lepidoptera, geographical distribution, Portugal. Introduction Following the publication of the records of species of Lepidoptera added to the Portuguese fauna in 2006 (CORLEY et al., 2007), we have decided that a similar list should be published annually. However, for the 2007 list we want to expand the scope of the paper to include second and third records of a species, where these records significantly extend the range of the species in Portugal, and 283 283-300 New and interesting Po 4/9/08 17:37 Página 284 M. F. V. CORLEY, E. MARABUTO, E. MARAVALHAS, P. PIRES & J. P. CARDOSO some additional records where major extensions of range have been discovered. As this paper has wider scope than the 2006 paper, we have included a number of records from earlier years. New food- plant data for the country is also included, as knowledge of larval food-plants within Portugal remains poor. Finally, papers published in 2007 that relate to the Portuguese Lepidoptera fauna are listed and briefly summarised. 38 species new for Portugal are listed below, of which two are also new to the Iberian Peninsula. Nine of these species, marked (*) or (**), have been previously listed for Portugal, but the records were erroneous. Two species are deleted from the Portuguese fauna. Material and Methods Most species were captured at mercury vapour light over a white sheet. Where this was not the case, the means of capture is given. Specimens are retained in the collections of the original recorders, unless otherwise stated. The order and nomenclature of families and species follows KARSHOLT & RAZOWSKI (1996) with some modifications reflecting more recent works. The nomenclature of plant names mainly follows TUTIN et al. (1964-1980). For most species that are new for Portugal in the list that follows a reference is given to a work in which the genitalia are figured. Often the same work is useful for the whole of a family, so the reference is given after the family heading. This has not been considered necessary for some Macrolepidoptera for which good illustrations of the imagines are available in several books. The entry for species new for Portugal concludes with a summary of the known European distribution, and available information on the larval food-plant, given in square brackets if the information comes from outside Portugal.
