Carlos Wilson Campos MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT nfraero achieved, in 2004, its social goal of developing at Ileast one project in all the airports that it manages, a historic landmark for the company that we record in this report. -
Following the Trail of the Snake: a Life History of Cobra Mansa “Cobrinha” Mestre of Capoeira
ABSTRACT Title of Document: FOLLOWING THE TRAIL OF THE SNAKE: A LIFE HISTORY OF COBRA MANSA “COBRINHA” MESTRE OF CAPOEIRA Isabel Angulo, Doctor of Philosophy, 2008 Directed By: Dr. Jonathan Dueck Division of Musicology and Ethnomusicology, School of Music, University of Maryland Professor John Caughey American Studies Department, University of Maryland This dissertation is a cultural biography of Mestre Cobra Mansa, a mestre of the Afro-Brazilian martial art of capoeira angola. The intention of this work is to track Mestre Cobrinha’s life history and accomplishments from his beginning as an impoverished child in Rio to becoming a mestre of the tradition—its movements, music, history, ritual and philosophy. A highly skilled performer and researcher, he has become a cultural ambassador of the tradition in Brazil and abroad. Following the Trail of the Snake is an interdisciplinary work that integrates the research methods of ethnomusicology (oral history, interview, participant observation, musical and performance analysis and transcription) with a revised life history methodology to uncover the multiple cultures that inform the life of a mestre of capoeira. A reflexive auto-ethnography of the author opens a dialog between the experiences and developmental steps of both research partners’ lives. Written in the intersection of ethnomusicology, studies of capoeira, social studies and music education, the academic dissertation format is performed as a roda of capoeira aiming to be respectful of the original context of performance. The result is a provocative ethnographic narrative that includes visual texts from the performative aspects of the tradition (music and movement), aural transcriptions of Mestre Cobra Mansa’s storytelling and a myriad of writing techniques to accompany the reader in a multi-dimensional journey of multicultural understanding. -

São Francisco Valley: Vitivini Culture Activities in the Brazilian Unthinkable Semiarid Climate and Its Challenges
International Journal of Business and Management Review Vol.4, No.10, pp.1-13, December 2016 ___Published by European Centre for Research Training and Development UK (www.eajournals.org) SÃO FRANCISCO VALLEY: VITIVINI CULTURE ACTIVITIES IN THE BRAZILIAN UNTHINKABLE SEMIARID CLIMATE AND ITS CHALLENGES Dr. Murillo Dias Ecole Superieure de Commerce Rennes - France Hidiana Santos, MBA Fundação Getulio Vargas, Brazil Marcio Pezzella, MSc Fundação Getulio Vargas, Brazil Fernando Marchezini, MSc Fundação Getulio Vargas, Brazil ABSTRACT: Located at the northeastern region in Brazil, the São Francisco Valley has recently drawn a great deal of attention from the world wine industry, due to its successful activities regarding the unthinkable latitude and weather conditions for wine business. This single case study investigates the challenges, pitfalls, and the success of the São Francisco Valley economic acitivites, such as the transposition of the São Francisco river infrastructure project, here highlighted as a Brazilian development model for the northeast agriculture. Usually, winemakers are concentrated in the north and south temperate zones (latitudes of 34° to 45°N, and 31°a 38° S, respectively). The São Francisco Valley is located between Pernambuco and Bahia States, in a semiarid climate (caatinga), at 8o S latitude. Against all odds, the São Francisco Valley was responsible for 95 % of the table grapes exported from Brazil in 2015, with a production of 7 million liters of still wine (70% or 2,8 million liters, sparkling wines), within 700 hectares of cultivated area. It is also responsible for 15% of the Brazilian still wine production. with the incredible milestone of five crops produced each two years. -

Abstract In Brazil, the debate on intermediary cities gained prominence when the urban population supplanted the rural during the 1970s, and when, in the metropolises, there began a deconcentration of the population which, as from the 1980s, was redistributed across the metropolitan surroundings and the interior of the states. Thus, the aim of the present study is to discover how many intermediary cities there are, where they are located in the interior of the Northeastern region and their relevance in attracting migrants. -
Establishing a Priority Hierarchical for Regional Airport Infrastructure Investments According to Tourism Development Criteria: a Brazilian Case Study
ESTABLISHING A PRIORITY HIERARCHICAL FOR REGIONAL AIRPORT INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS ACCORDING TO TOURISM DEVELOPMENT CRITERIA: A BRAZILIAN CASE STUDY Elisangela A. M. Silva1 Marcelo P. Queiroz2 José A. A. S. Fortes3 ABSTRACT The Brazilian government stepped up investments in works related to improving access to cities, when it was announced as the venue for the 2014 Football World Cup. The difficulties observed to guide these investments were to select regional airports of greater relevance for the tourism sector. Given the unavailability of data that could serve this purpose, the present study sought to define, from secondary and qualitative information extracted from government documents, five indicators to allow a priority hierarchical. The methodology applied the hierarchical analysis method (AHP) and standardization procedures, resulting in the selection of five airports in the North region, four airports in the Southeast, South and Northeast regions, and one in the Center-West region of Brazil. The main advantage of the methodology was the significant reduction of cost and time in the decision-making process. An important conclusion was the understanding of tourism as an option for regional economic diversification. Keywords: Regional Airport, Analytic Hierarchical Process (AHP), Tourism, Development. JEL Classification: O180, R4, R580 1. INTRODUCTION The significant increase in domestic and international demand for air transport services has been an outstanding issue over the last ten years. Deregulation of services planning and air fares and increased concern for time-saving have produced controversial effects such as the concentration of services offers in airports with greater demand and more operational infrastructure. The effects stemming from the deregulation model, which has already been applied in many countries, have to some extent stimulated competition on the most profitable routes and in some cases fares have come down. -

This study aimed to analyse whether the European Union policies in this field of transportation are considering the equity as a factor, whether they ensure the main purposes of the EU and whether they are improving the cohesion between countries. For this, three different indicators were created in order to evaluate equity in air transportation in the EU: Availability, the existence of routes between countries; Affordability, if the prices take into account the purchasing power of each country; and Business Convenience, to evaluate the cost of travelling by air on business in Europe.
