2 Član Kardinalskog zbora, koji bira i savjetuje papu. Kurijalni kardinali stoluju u Rimu i sudjeluju u različitim konzistorijima, dok rezidencijalni upravljaju svojim (nad)biskupijama. (Kan. 349. – 358. U: Zakonik kanonskoga prava, Glas koncila, Zagreb, 1996., str. 172-179). 3 Rimska kongregacija za zaštitu i promicanje katoličkog nauka. Proučava kontroverzna pitanja i vrednuje teološka mišljenja. • Interreligious Dialogue in Bosnia-Herzegovina1
MILAN KOSTRESEVIC Interreligious Dialogue in Bosnia-Herzegovina1 No peace among nations without peace among religions. No peace among religions without dialogue between religions. No dialogue between religions without research into their foundations. Hans Küng, Declaration Toward a Global Ethic, 1990 Introduction This article outlines and discusses the results of interreligious dialogue in Bos- nia-Herzegovina following the 1992-1995 war. To provide appropriate con- textual background, I will first discuss the historical background of the late 20th- century war, then provide an overview of relevant census data and analyse the founding of the Interreligious Council which comprises four representatives of the two Christian churches, together with two from the Muslim and two from the Jewish community. It is the activities and working groups of the Council which carry on the work of post-war reconciliation and allied interreligious dia- logue. Accordingly, an analysis of the activities and projects of the Council and provides an overview and insight into challenges and tasks that are presently faced. Historical Background Prior to the Late 20th-Century War Dialogue between different religions, which has recently faced major challenges and questions, has in recent years found an oasis of peace and a potential for progress in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Bosnia-Herzegovina is a country that is a mod- el and good example of ecumenism and interreligious dialogue. The three mono- theistic religions (Christianity, Islam, and Judaism) have been living there side by side for centuries (Wettach-Zeitz 2008: 110). Freedom of religion is formally confirmed and guaranteed under the Constitution (Art. 2, § 3G). A pluralist society, it is not only in the last 25 years that Bosnia-Herzegovina has seen conflict between different religious and ethnic groups.

Strossmayer University of Osijek, Osijek, Croatia SUMMARY – Th e history of Croatian urology clearly shows its affi liation to the medical and civilizational circle of the Western world. Th e Department of Urology at the Sestre milosrdnice Uni- versity Hospital Center is the oldest urology institution in the Republic of Croatia. Th e Department was established in 1894, when the new Sestre milosrdnice Hospital was open in Vinogradska cesta in Zagreb. It was then that doctor Dragutin Mašek founded the so-called III Department, which, in addition to treating urology patients, also treated patients with conditions of the ear, nose and throat, eye diseases and dermatologic conditions. Dragutin Mašek had already realized that medicine would soon be divided into fi elds and had assigned younger doctors joining the III Department to specifi c fi elds. As a result, urology was given to Aleksandar Blašković, who founded the fi rst independent de- partment of urology in Croatia in 1926. In 1927, he was appointed Professor of urology at the Zagreb School of Medicine, where he established the fi rst department of urology and was giving lectures and practicals.

  • CONDEMNATION of COMMUNISM in PONTIFICAL MAGISTERIUM Since Pius IX Till Paul VI
CONDEMNATION OF COMMUNISM IN PONTIFICAL MAGISTERIUM since Pius IX till Paul VI Petru CIOBANU Abstract: The present article, based on several magisterial documents, illus- trates the approach of Roman Pontiffs, beginning with Pius IX and ending with Paul VI, with regard to what used to be called „red plague”, i.e. communism. The article analyses one by one various encyclical letters, apostolic letters, speeches and radio messages in which Roman Pontiffs condemned socialist theories, either explicitly or implicitly. Keywords: Magisterium, Pope, communism, socialism, marxism, Christianity, encyclical letter, apostolic letter, collectivism, atheism, materialism. Introduction And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ (Rev 12,3-4.13.17). These words, written over 2.000 years ago, didn’t lose their value along time, since then and till now, reflecting the destiny of Christian Church and Christians – „those who guard the God words and have the Jesus tes- timony” – in the world, where appear so many „dragons” that have the aim to persecute Jesus Christ followers.

  • Jews, Radical Catholic Traditionalists, and the Extreme Right
“Artisans … for Antichrist”: Jews, Radical Catholic Traditionalists, and the Extreme Right Mark Weitzman* The Israeli historian, Israel J. Yuval, recently wrote: The Christian-Jewish debate that started nineteen hundred years ago, in our day came to a conciliatory close. … In one fell swoop, the anti-Jewish position of Christianity became reprehensible and illegitimate. … Ours is thus the first generation of scholars that can and may discuss the Christian-Jewish debate from a certain remove … a post- polemical age.1 This appraisal helped spur Yuval to write his recent controversial book Two Nations in Your Womb: Perceptions of Jews and Christians in late Antiquity and the Middle Ages. Yuval based his optimistic assessment on the strength of the reforms in Catholicism that stemmed from the adoption by the Second Vatican Council in 1965 of the document known as Nostra Aetate. Nostra Aetate in Michael Phayer’s words, was the “revolution- ary” document that signified “the Catholic church’s reversal of its 2,000 year tradition of antisemitism.”2 Yet recent events in the relationship between Catholics and Jews could well cause one to wonder about the optimism inherent in Yuval’s pronouncement. For, while the established Catholic Church is still officially committed to the teachings of Nostra Aetate, the opponents of that document and of “modernity” in general have continued their fight and appear to have gained, if not a foothold, at least a hearing in the Vatican today. And, since in the view of these radical Catholic traditionalists “[i]nternational Judaism wants to radically defeat Christianity and to be its substitute” using tools like the Free- * Director of Government Affairs, Simon Wiesenthal Center.

This essay does not pretend to describe it in its entirety. Its goal is to shed light on some (key) moments in its complex historical development and point to its most important specificities. The essay does not pertain to entire Croatian literary heritage, but only to the part created on the historical Croatian territory and created by the Croats. Namely, with regard to its origins, the Croatian literary heritage can be divided into three big groups.

Oni su u turskom periodu bili jedini predstavnici katoličkog klera a u novije vrijeme rade zajedno s dijecezanskim svećenstvom i pripadnicima drugih redovničkih zajednica.

  • The Daily Eucharist at the Council As Stimulus and Test Case for Liturgical Reform
QL 95 (2014) 28-51 doi: 10.2143/QL.95.1.3030644 © 2014, all rights reserved THE DAILY EUCHARIST AT THE COUNCIL AS STIMULUS AND TEST CASE FOR LITURGICAL REFORM In order to study the contribution of Vatican II to liturgical reform, most scholars spontaneously will turn to the redaction history of Sacrosanctum Concilium. In this paper I am more interested in the question of how the daily Eucharist celebrated at the beginning of each of the General Congregations was experienced by those present. Were these celebrations experienced as an illustration of the reforms proposed in the Constitution on the Liturgy, or rather as a counter-witness to the sorely needed liturgical reform? My major sources are council diaries, at least those that are attentive to this aspect of the Council’s life. I especially rely on accounts of their liturgical experiences offered by two Latin rite Catholic “observers” of the Council liturgies, the French Dominican, Yves Congar and the Irish journalist and Redemptorist, Xavier Rynne; one Oriental rite Catholic Council father, the Melkite archbishop, Neophytos Edelby; and two “real” observers: the United Church of Christ representative, Douglas Horton and the Presbyterian minister, Robert McAfee Brown. It will soon become clear that two types of Eucharistic celebrations received most attention in their diaries and chronicles: the divine liturgies celebrated in rites other than the Latin one and the opening and concluding ceremonies of each session. Especially in the first session the exposure of the mostly Latin-rite Council Fathers to liturgies celebrated by Byzantine and Oriental Catholic Council Fathers may have cured them of some of their prejudices concerning important issues of liturgical debate such as concelebration, the vernacular and communion under both species.
