Mission Statement
Giving back to the community is no burden on our students – it is the direct, inescapable consequence of their studies here. It is not in vain that our Yeshiva is called "Derech Chaim" – the "Path of Life". We make every effort to make it clear to our students that the Torah that they study here is not theoretical – it is geared is to lead and direct them to take those same high ideals and put them into practice in their daily lives - in their hobbies, careers and life-choices.
e Rashbi Study Partners Program
Twice a week, Kiryat Gat Hesder students go to study Talmud and Parshat Shavua with young students at the nearby "Rashbi" Mamlachti Dati elementary school. Due to its proximity our students can now engage in this activity twice a week and the young children are in turn encouraged to visit the Yeshiva as well. In general, these children come from very economically and religiously challenged backgrounds. Having a "big brother" from the local Hesder Yeshiva is invaluable in building their respect for Torah and connecting them to proper role models.
Community Rabbinate
Program
Amit L’Mishpacha
A number of our Rabbis also serve as the beloved spiritual leaders of different local congregations. In this context, they are busy giving talks and lectures as well as helping families in their community in various ways. ey also engage in family and marriage counseling and conduct extra-curricular Torah classes for children on a regular basis in the aſternoons and during vacations and holidays.
e Family Associate Program
Under the direction of the Kiryat Gat Social Services department, a number of hand-picked students have "adopted" disadvantaged families and spend one eveningeveryweekplayingwithandhelping challenged children with their homework and studies.
e Pre-School Enrichment
Program
As part of an enrichment program for local State Religious Kindergartens, our Rabbis spend an hour three times a week singing songs and telling stories which reinforce positive character traits and bolster class morale. A number of times a year, in connection with the Jewish calendar, we organize mass events in which many pre-school programs take part in.
e Gross Study Partners
Program
As part of our partnership with the Gross Religious High School, our older Kiryat Gat Hesder students host a group of Gross students four times a week for morning prayers, joint study and breakfast. In addition, we host an entire class at least once a month.
High School Graduates
Outreach Program
IDF Outreach Program
Many high school graduates now serving in the IDF come home on leave and have no contact with any kind of religious environment. We reach out to these neighbors and host them for Shabbat in the Yeshiva and at weekly get-togethers.
Our Rabbis visit IDF bases around the country, giving lectures, answering question and raising the morale of our troops – both observant and secular. In addition, in conjunction with the central Sderot Hesder Yeshiva, Rabbis and older students are sent to spend Shabbat with soldiers on IDF bases throughout the Gaza Border area.
City-Wide Celebrations
On various holidays and special occasions we open our doors to the public and all take to the streets with our special brand of joy and celebration. Chanukah, Purim, Shavuot, SimchatTorah, IndependenceDay, Jerusalem Day and more are all celebrated as community celebrations run by the Yeshiva in coordination with the Kiryat Gat Municipality.
e Civil Defense Emergency
Intervention Unit
At the request of the local police, our students train, prepare and serve in the local emergency intervention unit, on site and on call 24/7.
