1. Stuttgart seen from the tower of the railway station Stuttgart viewed from the tower of the railroad station. This is the main business street.

2. Central Railway Station The railroad station. The natives think it’s a fine building, but most foreigners think it look more like a prison than anything else.

3. City Hall The city hall. Looks very medieval, but was actually built in 1908. During the war they took the roof off to reclaim the copper, but found the contractor had gipped the city by using tin instead.

4. New Palace Nothing can convince me that this building is either beautiful or attractive. It is a feeble copy of the Versailles palace. Was formerly the residence of the Kings of Württemberg.

5. Old Castle The Old Castle burned out a few years ago and is now in the course of reconstruction.

6. Cultural Museum of Expatriate Germans A museum commemorating the achievments of Germans who lived in foreign countries.

7. Schiller Square with weekly market A statue of Schiller, who spent some years in Stuttgart. A farmers’market is held here once or twice a week.

8. University Church This church is directly behind the Consulate. Parts of it are very old.

9. State Theater The State theater

10. Mountain Villa Formerly a private estate, now owned by the city and used for official receptions.

12. Solitude Palace This castle is a few miles from town, and was built by one of the kings for his mistress.

16. National Expressway near Stuttgart (Rohr Creek Bridge) One of the new through automobile roads, of

which the Germans are very proud. They want Americans to know that they have good roads here too.
