This County is sixth by surface and second largest Croatian county by population density. Today it is one of the economically fastest growing domestic regions, and because of its history, tradition, culture, preserved nature, gastronomy and beautiful picturesque landscapes, it is especially attractive as an excursion-tourist destination. Making a ring around the Croatian capital, the County managed to connect the contemporary architecture and preserve traditional folk customs and values. Zagreb County area is very rich in heritage and natural beauties (large number of protected natural sites, two nature parks – Medvednica and Žumberak - Samobor Hills, and unique ornithological reserve of Crna Mlaka).
