Ver cómo han cambiado los temas o las interpretaciones al cabo de las décadas permite descubrir no pocos hallazgos sobre los modos de hacer filosofía, sobre el pensamien- to académico mismo y sobre la misma filosofía vista desde diferentes y cambiantes, históricas perspectivas, como habría dicho Hegel, más todavía cuando se analiza cómo se mira el arte o se estudia desde la perspectiva de la disciplina estética en el ámbito académico. Para ello, se concibió que, bajo la dirección de John Hyman, Catedrático de Estética de Oxford y director del British Journal of Aesthetics, se hiciese un seminario bajo el títu- lo: Wittgenstein and Aesthetics: philosophy and the history of ideas. Dicho encuentro tuvo lugar los días 29 y 30 de septiembre de 2017 en el seno del Instituto de Historiografía Julio Caro Baroja, en la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, bajo la coordinación de quien estas letras escribe, quien presentó las sesiones. Esta bienvenida se hizo con la primera ponen- cia, de Severin Schroeder, de la Universidad de Reading, con el título: ‘Too ridiculous for words’: Wittgenstein on scientific Aesthetics. En ella se proponía mostrar cómo el lenguaje usado tanto de modo común como en la filosofía era susceptible de revisión cuando el pensar filosófico resulta similar a la mirada estética. En esa revisión, el tema de fondo iba a ser entender el significado de la experiencia estética y si puede la ciencia, derivando de principios generales sobre estética, dar cuenta del gusto, así como revisar por qué ciertas obras nos impresionan. El texto que aquí se publica, lleva, sin embargo, un título más amplio: Wittgenstein on Aesthetics and Philosophy. Partiendo del periodo en que el autor del Tractatus intenta aplicar la investigación de la psicología experimental a la estética, analiza cómo llegó a la conclusión de que la estética no podía reducirse a esa disciplina, pues en tales juicios no pueden darse valores de verdad o falsedad. Por otro lado, reducirlo a la línea hedonista, del gusto, para clasificar obras, tampoco le convencía, ya que, según Wittgenstein: «La obra de arte no busca transmitir algo más, solo a sí misma». Lo que se halla en el gusto, aunque de interés, no es el principal valor para la estética o la crítica de arte. Por ello, en contra de la tradición de Hume o Kant y tantos otros, que buscaban jui- cios estéticos lo más independientes de que fueran capaces del contexto cultural, el filósofo vienés hizo todo lo contrario, hallando, además, gran similitud entre estética y filosofía, al originarse ambas por una inquietud o perplejidad que requiere ser resuelta. This essay explores the mask as code of honor in Mexican culture, and foregrounds the manner in which a number of contemporary Mexican and Chicano artists and performers strategically employ wrestling masks to (ef)face the mask- like image of Mexican or U.S. nationalism. I apply the label "performance artist" broadly, to include musicians and political figures that integrate an exaggerated sense of theatricality into their performances.

The research includes the analysis of newspaper coverage of the most significant sporting events in recent Japanese history, including the 2014 Koshien National High School Baseball Championships, the awarding of the People’s Honor Award, the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, wrestler Hakuho’s record breaking victories in the sumo ring, and the bidding process for the 2020 Olympic Games. 2054 Japanese language articles were examined by thematic analysis in order to identify the extent to which established themes of “Japaneseness” were reproduced or renegotiated in the coverage. The research contributes to a broader understanding of national identity negotiation by illustrating the manner in which established symbolic boundaries are reproduced in service of the nation, particularly via mass media.     Notes on Ephesians 202 1 Edition Dr. Thomas L. Constable HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Almost all Christians believed in the Pauline authorship of Ephesians—until the nineteenth century, when destructive biblical criticism gained much influence (cf. 1:1; 3:1).1 The critics built a case against Pauline authorship from linguistic and stylistic features, literary comparisons chiefly with Colossians, historical evidence, and doctrinal peculiarities. "When all the objections are carefully considered it will be seen that the weight of evidence is inadequate to overthrow the overwhelming external attestation to Pauline authorship, and the Epistle's own claims."2 Most conservative New Testament scholars hold to the tradition that Paul wrote Ephesians, along with Colossians, Philemon, and Philippians, the other "Prison Epistles," during his first Roman imprisonment, A.D. 60-62 (3:1; 4:1; 6:20; cf. Acts 28:16-31).3 During that time Paul was under house arrest. He lived in his own rented quarters, under guard by Roman soldiers. He was allowed visitors and could minister, without hindrance, as far as his confinement permitted (Acts 28:16, 30-31). He was not chained in a prison cell at this time, as he was during his second Roman imprisonment when he wrote 2 Timothy (cf. 2 Tim. 1:16). 1See the charts of which scholars held Pauline authorship and which did not in Harold W.
