The lions symbolize the Estonians courage of the fight for freedom and the wreath of oak leaves shows the strength of Estonia and the evergreen traditions of freedom. Eesti Vabariigi lipp Flag of Estonia The national flag of Estonia is a tricolour- colloguially called the “sinimustvalge” (literally “ blue- black-white”) after the colours of the bands: Blue- blue sky above the native land. Black- the soil of the homeland, growing the grain for bread. White- the promise of a brighter future; purity and hope. The Estonian tricolour is used displayed not only on state holidays, but also on national and family dates.
