Careers Events This Term

Apprenticeship Day - Mon 12th Feb 2018.

Some Y10 students took part in speed information sessions facilitated by UTC Aerospace, RAF, City of Wolverhampton College, College and Nova Training.

The sessions were based around speed dating style sessions where students moved around the room gathering information on various types of apprenticeships available within different organisations.

Employees from UTC Aerospace who gained their employment through apprenticeships gave a talk to Y10 students and a presentation around the types of apprentices and how to apply for them and their personal journey within UTC Aerospace.

Careers Fair Tue 13th Feb 2018 All students that were on site during the day where scheduled to come along to our annual careers fair plus Y8 students from federation schools, in total around 1000 students attended this event. The exhibitors on the day were: Codsall High Sixth Form, Jaguar Land Rover, Perkins Engineering, UTAS UTC Aerospace, MOOG, Barclays Bank, West Midland Construction University Technical College, City of Wolverhampton College, , , Halesowen College, North College, South Staffordshire College, College, College Prospects of America, Birmingham City University, , Cardiff University, , Edge Hill University, , Royal Navy, Army, Military Preparation Services, Juniper Training, Nova Training, BIMM Birmingham.

University Information Day Wed 14th Feb 2018 Alexander Bowkley from Edge Hill University Schools Liaison team came into school to talk to some Y11 students about higher education(HE), the choices and the process of applying to University and how to complete UCAS application forms and personal statements to improve their chances of success.

College Day Thurs 15th Feb 2018 Around 60 students took part in 2 workshops provided by . During the first workshop students were informed about college courses, apprenticeships how to apply for college and how to complete an application form. The second work shop “Communication Skills” was delivered by Stafford College Public Services dept. The workshop was really hands on. Working in teams the students had to put up a tent with 2 students giving instructions that they were not allowed to touch the tent, 2 students blind folded following instructions and 2 students who could touch the tent however their hands were impaired therefore their task was made harder. Most of the teams achieved their goal and worked well together.

Sixth Form Sessions Friday 16th Feb 2018

Stafford College Apprenticeship Information Session Stafford College schools liaison team came into school to deliver an assembly to Y12 students around Higher Apprenticeships and the benefits of gaining A levels first before moving onto an a higher level apprenticeship.

University Mind Tour Bus on Site Year 12 and 13 students had the opportunity to visit the “Staffordshire University Mind Tour Bus”. The bus gives students an insight to university life, living in halls and what to expect from a university course.

RAF Outreach Team Friday 16th Feb 2018 Y12 Football Academy had the opportunity to work out with the RAF outreach team. During the visit students were put through their paces by PT instructors and had a careers talk about the skills they use every day on their course and how they can be transferred to the work place and in particular the RAF. All students were really engaged in this event.

Other Events

Apprenticeship American School Bus Stafford College Tue 13th March 2018 Year 9 students got the chance to take part in apprenticeship information activities, they also sat on board the bus to listen to a talk on higher apprenticeships and the wide range of careers open to them through the apprenticeships route.

Wolverhampton Apprenticeships and Skills Show Tue 27th March 2018 Around 40 Y9 students attended the Wolverhampton Skills Show where they took part on a lot of hands on activities. Some of the organisations they had the opportunity to talk to were Armed Forces, NHS, Public Services and employers from the private sector.

Work Experience Year 10 Monday 2nd – Friday 6th July and Year 12 Monday 9th July – Friday 13th July. It is our policy that all students in these year groups will take part in work experience without exception.

Our annual “Employability Skills” day which will be held at RAF Museum Cosford on Tuesday 10th July. All year 10 students will work their way through 8 employability workshops including a mock interview. Students have already been informed of the event and will be prepared through PSHE and tutor time during term 3
