HHS Family and Friends,

Welcome to the 2017 Panther baseball season! This year promises to be another exciting and competitive year under the leadership of head coach, David Sharp. The players and coaches have prepared for the season and will continue the proud tradition of excellence, on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. The players are dedicated and work very hard to make HHS baseball one of the best programs in the state.

The varsity will play one of the strongest schedules in the State, which includes the Huntsville - Birmingham Challenge, the toughest tournament in Alabama High School Baseball. Our young men will play in the Gulf Coast Classic in Orange Beach during Spring Break. The team will also play at Vanderbilt University, one of the country’s best programs. In addition to playing teams from Mississippi, Tennessee, and Oklahoma, the home schedule includes quality teams from around the state. Please join me in wishing them the best of luck this year!

Coach Sharp is doing a tremendous job and has assembled an excellent and hardworking coaching staff. Returning to the staff to assist him this year are BJ Womack, Todd Gengle, Nick Acosta, and David Coker. There are three new additions to the staff this year, Ken Brown, Trey Moody, and Casey Lambert. These coaches are dedicated to helping each young man reach his full potential as a player, as a student, and as a productive member of our community. Congratulations on the job they are doing!

Thank you to the parents and fans that support HHS Baseball in many different ways. We could not have a successful program without a strong booster club! Whether it’s volunteering for various jobs or helping with a fundraising activity, thank you for your continued efforts to help improve the program.

I look forward to seeing you at the games! Let’s all continue to improve by 1% daily! GO BIG RED!

Very Respectfully,

Aaron King, M.Ed.

Principal, Huntsville High Friends of HHS Baseball,

On behalf of the Booster Club, I want to welcome you to the 2017 season of Huntsville High School baseball.

The Booster Club would like to thank the numerous companies and individuals who have supported our fundraising efforts. All the expenses associated with operating the baseball program are covered through these fundraising efforts and corporate sponsorships, and for this the HHS Baseball Booster Club, coaches and players are extremely grateful for the support of the community.

On behalf of the Booster Club officers, I want to thank all those individuals who assisted with each fundraising effort. Without the hard work of these individuals we would not be able to cover the expenses associated with supporting each of the HHS baseball teams.

We are very excited to begin another baseball season at Huntsville High School. This season the sched- ule for the varsity will be challenging, yet again. The team faces quality opponents throughout the year, including teams from Oklahoma, Tennessee and Mississippi. In area play, the varsity will face the defending state champion, Hewitt Trussville, along with Gadsden City and cross-town rival Grissom.

To the 2017 seniors and their families, we want to thank you for your countless efforts working hard to support the baseball program and make it what it is today. You definitely have left the program better than it was when you first arrived. We hope you will continue to support the HHS Baseball program once your high school playing days have completed, and will always consider yourself part of the Big Red family.

Sincerely,

Kevin Wright Booster Club President

HHS Baseball Family,

Welcome to another exciting season of Huntsville High School Baseball! Our players have worked tremendously hard during the offseason in preparation for a very challenging 2017 season. All three teams will play quality opponents throughout the season. Our expecta- tions remain the same year in and year out and our players have done a good job of taking ownership of that.

The 2016 season was a tremendous success as the varsity reached the 30 win plateau for only the second time in school history and reached the 7A Elite 8 for the second consecu- tive season. Five players from the 2016 team are currently playing at the collegiate level, which makes 13 players from the past four senior classes that are continuing their collegiate careers in 2017. We wish all of them success this year.

The 2017 season will offer a tremendous challenge for our varsity team. We begin the season in the very prestigious Huntsville- Birmingham Challenge as we will play some of the best teams in the state. We will travel to Gulf Shores to participate in the Gulf Coast Classic during spring break. These tournaments are in addition to an already challenging regular season schedule. Our varsity will also have a unique opportunity to play at Vanderbilt Universi- ty this year. Our area this year consists of high quality opponents in Gadsden City, Hewitt Trussville and Grissom. A tremendous challenge awaits our team.

As we begin our season I would like to thank our school administration and faculty, our many sponsors, the parents in our program, the students and their continued support and all other fans and supporters of our program. We are very fortunate to have the continual support of our community and others and our coaches and players greatly appreciate that support. I would also like to thank all of our assistant coaches for their hours of dedication and hard work to our program. They are good baseball coaches but even better people.

We hope to see all of you at Panther Field this year to cheer on our teams.

Thanks and Go Big Red,

A left handed pitcher, Jack has loved baseball for as long as anyone can remember. You see, for Jack, his love of baseball is a family tradition. He had the blessing of having his dad and his granddad coaching him throughout his years in Little League at Mayfair Park. Baseball facilitated the beginning of many treasured friendships and adventures. This game has taken Jack from the Little League State Championship game in Mobile to Cooperstown Dreampark in NY, to Omaha, NE, and to many other elds across the South. Whether it was the many games at Mayfair Park or the amazing experiences playing for Coach Sharp at HHS, Jack has given this game his whole heart and mind. Baseball for Jack has had one commonality--his teammates and his coaches. For Jack, that is special. Jack began his high school baseball career in 9th and 10th grades pitching for the JV team, compiling a record of 7-1 with 4 complete games. During his junior year on the Varsity, he pitched a 5-2 season with 2 complete games. Jack’s favorite memory is his rst varsity win against Helena as a Junior. In the classroom, Jack has followed an all honors/AP course curriculum and has maintained a 3.6 GPA. He is a member of FCA, Chemistry Club, and Interact, and is a founding member of HHS Constitution. He is also a member of Mayfair Church of Christ’s youth group. He will attend college next year on an academic scholarship. His baseball plans are currently undecided. It has been pure joy to watch Jack play for HHS alongside his friends. He has created a lifetime of memories! Jack is forever grateful to Coach Sharp and his commitment to HHS, both on and o the eld. Lastly, we don’t know what the future holds, but we know Who holds the future: “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but of power, and of love and of a sound mind!” 2 Tim 1:7 #GBR forever!

Drew Talley #12 Drew is the son of Teresa Baker and Greg Talley. He has a brother, Blake (22) and a sister Anna Lauren (19). Drew grew up at Mayfair Park playing for the International League and developed lasting friendships with his teammates. Drew spent his later elementary and middle school years playing for Buckhorn, then returned to attend Huntsville High his freshman year. It was an honor to get the chance to play for Huntsville High and he pushed himself to emulate his teammates. Drew is also a member of the Nashville Knights travel ball team; from 7th grade to his senior year. Some of the greatest memories have been with the Panthers - from winning the JV Championship, to only allowing Grissom 3 hits in a complete game which helped pave the way for the Panther's to make the State Playos. Drew has continued to work hard to overcome an injury which required him to sit out his Sophomore season in 2015. With generous support from his older brother, coaches, teammates, parents, and ambition to get better, in 2015, Drew was chosen to play for the Miami Marlin's Scout Team. In 2016, he was selected as Huntsville High School's Pitcher of the Year, Huntsville City's Pitcher of the Year, ASHAA North-South All Star Team, and Marlin's East Coast Pro Team. Drew plans to pursue a degree in business and will continue playing baseball at the University of Memphis. Outside of baseball, Drew enjoys playing with his Labrador-mix named Bear, working out, and being with his friends and teammates. We are so proud of Drew's achievements but most proud of his kind-hearted nature. As we count our blessings, we look forward to a great senior year!
