Surprise 3B Mike Olt (TEX) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI Tuesday, his ninth straight game with an RBI. Olt, who leads the AFL with 13 home runs and 42 RBI, needs one home run to tie the AFL record of 14 set by Brandon Wood in 2005 and two RBI to match Orlando Miller’s RBI record of 44 from 1993. Olt’s 42 RBI are the second-most in league history. 2. Peoria 2B Scooter Gennett (MIL) collected his seventh multi-hit game in his last eight by going 3-for-5 with 2 doubles Tuesday. Gennett has raised his average 107 points over the stretch to .434 and is just three points behind teammate 3B Jedd Gyorko (SD) for the batting title. The AFL batting champion has come from the Peoria Javelinas in five of the last six seasons. 3. Salt River LHP Dallas Keuchel (HOU) fanned six and allowed one run over four innings for his third win Tuesday. Keuchel boasts a league- best 22:1 K:BB ratio in 28.1 innings this season. 4. The Surprise Saguaros dropped a 12-8 decision to Phoenix on Tuesday and must win their final two games to set the league winning percentage record. Only two teams since 2002 have compiled more wins than the Sags’ 24 victories in 2011. 5. The Mesa Solar Sox nearly erased an 11-1 ninth-inning deficit in Tuesday’s 11-9 loss at Peoria, scoring a league-high eight runs in the final frame before stranding the tying run on first base. 2011 Arizona Fall League Tidbits • A total of nine former Fall Leaguers won 2011 Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Awards. The six National League winners include 1B Prince Fielder (2005 Peoria Javelinas), 2B Brandon Phillips (2001 Scottsdale Scorpions/2002 Phoenix Desert Dogs), SS Troy Tulowitzki (2006 Grand Canyon Rafters), LF Ryan Braun (2006 Scottsdale Scorpions), CF Matt Kemp (2005 Phoenix Desert Dogs) and C Brian McCann (2004 Grand Canyon Rafters). The American League boasted three Fall League alumni: 1B Adrian Gonzalez (2003 Peoria Saguaros), CF Curtis Granderson (2004 Grand Canyon Rafters) and CF Jacoby Ellsbury (2006 Peoria Javelinas). • A total of 11 former Fall Leaguers took home 2011 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards last week. The five National League winners include 1B Joey Votto (2005 Mesa Solar Sox), 2B Brandon Phillips (2001 Scottsdale Scorpions/2002 Phoenix Desert Dogs), SS Troy Tulowitzki (2006 Grand Canyon Rafters), CF Matt Kemp (2005 Phoenix Desert Dogs) and RF Andre Ethier (2005 Phoenix Desert Dogs). The six in the American League are C Matt Wieters (2008 Surprise Rafters), 1B Adrian Gonzalez (2003 Peoria Saguaros), 2B Dustin Pedroia (2004 Scottsdale Scorpions), LF Alex Gordon (2005 Surprise Scorpions), CF Jacoby Ellsbury (2006 Peoria Javelinas) and RF Nick Markakis (2005 Peoria Javelinas). • A total of 99 Arizona Fall League alumni graced the rosters of the eight teams in the MLB playoffs, representing nearly 50% of the 200 players on post-season rosters. • Three of the last four no. 1 overall picks in the MLB First-Year Player Draft are playing in this year’s Arizona Fall League: RHP Gerrit Cole (Mesa) was drafted first by the Pirates in 2011, OF Bryce Harper (Scottsdale) was taken first by the Nationals in 2010 and IF Tim Beckham (Surprise) was made the first overall selection by the Rays in 2008. Additionally, RHP Stephen Strasburg, the no. 1 pick of the Nationals in 2009, played for Phoenix in 2009, meaning the last four no. 1 overall picks have played in the AFL. Since 1992, the year the Arizona Fall League started, 13 of the 20 no. 1 overall picks in the MLB draft will have played in the AFL. The current streak of four straight no. 1 picks (2008-11) is the second-longest streak, following a five-year stretch (1997-2001) that saw Matt Anderson (1997), Pat Burrell (1998), Josh Hamilton (1999), Adrian Gonzalez (2000) and Joe Mauer (2001) all participate in the AFL. • The Arizona Fall League has three games televised nationally on the MLB Network and online at MLB.TV this season: the Nov. 5 Rising Stars Game, the Nov. 11 AFL Military Appreciation Game and the AFL Championship Game on Sat., Nov.

Y-D Off To A Fast Start At 6-2 Yarmouth-Dennis is off to the hottest start in the Cape League. The Red Sox are stacked with talent; from at pitching staff led by second-year starter, and last year's co- Pitcher Of The Year in the Cape League, Terry Doyle (Boston College), to the league’s leading hitter, Gordon Beckham (Georgia). Y-D Coach Scott Pickler has certainly done his homework, and it seems that once again the defending Cape League champion Red Sox might be the team to beat. But will the road to the 2007 championship run through Red Wilson Field as it did last summer? If everyone stays healthy Y-D has a good chance to repeat. But to do so once again they will have to face down some very talented teams. In their corner the Red Sox have players like second base- man Joey Railey (U of San Francisco) leading off. Railey puts the ball in play and, not surprisingly, can run. He leads the team in runs scored. Sean Ochinko (LSU) is a tenacious catcher/fi rst DON PARKINSON/ENTERPRISE baseman who is hitting over .300 and Collin Cowgill (Kentucky) A taste of Cape Cod. owns centerfi eld.
