  • Wave of Stabbings Shake Israel and the West Bank
SUBSCRIPTION SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2015 THULHIJJA 26, 1436 AH No: 16663 Tunisian Violent Blatter fights democracy Muslims told ban amid group wins to leave FIFA Peace Prize7 Australia12 turmoil47 Wave of stabbings shake Israel and the West Bank Min 26º 150 Fils Revenge attack injures two Palestinians, two Arab Israelis Max 38º JERUSALEM: A fresh wave of stabbings shook Israel and the West Bank yesterday, including a suspected revenge attack by a Jewish suspect that wounded two Palestinians and two Arab Israelis. Attacks also continued against Israelis and Jews, with a Palestinian stabbing a policeman near a West Bank settlement before being shot dead by the victim, who was lightly wounded. A Jewish 16-year-old was lightly wounded in a new stabbing in Jerusalem by an 18-year-old Palestinian suspect, who was arrested. In the assault by a Jew, the assailant aged about 20 was arrested and told police he carried out the attack in the southern Israeli city of Dimona because “all Arabs are terrorists”. The victims suffered light to moderate wounds. It marked the first such attack against Palestinians after at least 11 stabbings that have targeted Israelis or Jews since Saturday, killing two of them. Later, a woman was shot after a stabbing attempt in northern Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quickly condemned the stab- bings by the Jewish suspect, a sign of concerns it could trigger further violence. Palestinians have also rioted in annexed east Jerusalem and the West Bank in recent days, with the unrest raising fears of a wider uprising or even a third intifada.

Theirs is one of the best in baseball, Brandon Crawford. Their second baseman was drafted as a shortstop and converted in the minors, Joe Panik. They drafted Matt Duffy as a shortstop and taught him to play third base as a big-leaguer. Last summer, they traded for Eduardo Nuñez, who had played mostly shortstop during his career but played third after Duffy was traded to Tampa Bay. Heck, even Buster Posey played shortstop in college. No wonder the Giants’ top hitting prospect is a shortstop. Not that Christian Arroyo is targeted to play the position in the big leagues, not with Mr. Crawford in the house. Arroyo, who’s 21 going on 30, is the team’s third baseman of the future, and we’re not talking the distant future. It’s not unrealistic to imagine Arroyo playing third on Opening Day in 2018, so long as he continues to excel on the fast track. 1 “For me, they stressed the value of versatility,” Arroyo said at his Scottsdale Stadium locker. “Staying versatile is going to be huge.” Arroyo was the Giants’ top draft pick in 2013 — he was salutatorian at Hernando High School in Brooksville, Fla. — and he signed after turning down a scholarship from Florida, where he would have studied architectural engineering. He’s plenty smart enough to realize his ticket to the big leagues might not be at his No.

Records and History Old Dominion University Baseball 2009 Old Dominion University Baseball 2009 27 BUD METHENY n Jan 2, 2003 Old Dominion University and the athletic program lost a legend with the passing of Bud MethenyO and his wife Fran on the same day. Bud spent 32 years at the University from 1948 to 1980 as an instructor, basketball coach, athletic director and coach of the baseball program. Baseball was his passion, and where he made his mark. As a member of the New York Yankees from 1937 to 1946, Bud played on the 1943 World Series championship squad that stopped St. Louis. Bud started for the Yankees in the second and last game of the series. As a coach of the Monarchs, he rolled up a 423‑363‑6 record and was honored by the NCAA as the Eastern Regional coach of the year in 1963 and ‘64 and National Coach Of the Year in 1964. His Monarchs won the NCAA College Division Eastern Regional championship in 1963 and 1964 and took second in 1965. Bud not only coached baseball, but he was the men’s basketball head coach from 1948‑1965, compiling a 198‑163 record and posting 16 winning seasons. He served as the University’s athletic director from 1963‑1970. Following his retirement it was only fitting to honor Bud with the naming of the new baseball stadium in 1983 and with the adoption of the blue and white pin stripes of the Yankees on uniforms the following year, which coincides with the University’s new school colors, adopted in 1986.
