Toxicology Fellowship

The Indiana Center at Indiana University Health offers a two-year Pharmacy Fellowship. The goal of the fellowship is to graduate practitioners with the ability to provide the professional, administrative, and research roles in a regional poison center, clinical toxicology service, and academic environment. The program will prepare the fellow for credentialing by the American Board of Applied Toxicology through the development of clinical toxicology skills and the management of poisoned . The fellow will participate in the Medical Toxicology Service, which consults on poisoned patients at IU Methodist Hospital, IU Health University Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, and Eskenazi Hospital, and provide poison center services to the state of Indiana through the Indiana Poison Center. Required rotations include one month each of emergency , critical care, and poison center operations. Additional rotation or longitudinal opportunities include pediatric , adult and pediatric critical care, hazmat life support training, poison center administration, de-prescribing initiatives, toxicosurveillance, legal/ cases, research, and other non-ICU elective rotations.

The Indiana Poison Center, an accredited Regional Poison Information Center, is a non-profit, public- private partnership that provides 24-hour poison treatment advice to the public, , nurses, EMTs, and other healthcare professionals. The poison center manages over 50,000 cases per year. The Medical Toxicology Service consults on over 700 cases per year and has board-certified toxicologists in the areas of pharmacy, emergency medicine, neurology, and . The Indiana Poison Center and Medical Toxicology Service serve as teaching sites for Butler and Purdue Universities’ Colleges of Pharmacy as well as the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Requirements: Applicants must hold a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and must be eligible for Indiana licensure. Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is required. Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY2 Specialty Residency in emergency medicine, critical care, internal medicine, or pediatrics is preferred but not required.
