Understanding from ’s Perspective

Lesson 5: has been defeated Part 2 – “The Origin of satan”

Although the focus on this study is to understand spiritual warfare from God’s perspective, Paul say in 2 Cor. 2:11: “So that no advantage would be taken of us by satan, for are not ignorant of his schemes/devices/wiles/methods.” Satan, who was originally named was one of the in , possessing great wisdom, power, beauty, and perfection when God created him. • Most theologians described Lucifer as being among the highest serving in the of God as co-equal to and . • He was called the “anointed ” who directly attended to God in Ezek. 28:12b, 13a, 14a, 15: “You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden the garden of God…You were the anointed cherub who covers [Heb. Sakak – saw-kak, “to fence in, cover over, defend, join together], and I established you there. You were on the Holy Mountain of God…you were perfect in your ways rom the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you.” • Isa. 14:12: “How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, you who have weakened the nations!” • After his fall, Lucifer became recognized as the great dragon, the of old, the and satan – Rev. 12:9: “And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called and satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his were thrown down with him.”

As a created being by God, satan is no match for the Creator God, and the . Satan in the origin was allowed to be with God on the Holy Mountain, until iniquity was found in him. The Fall of Lucifer It amazes us that one so created in beauty, power, perfection could fall from such a position of honor with God. It can only be explained and understood from the fact that God gave all of His creation both spiritual and , their own free will to choose. 1

• Fully choosing to obey and serve the Lord according to His perfect ways and commandments would cause them to fully enjoy His perfect blessings. • Disobeying and rejecting His ways and creation mandates would cause them to fall away from His presence, glory and blessed purpose. • Lucifer chose to rebel against Creator God as did and , falling from the glory He had for them.

Scriptures describe the why Lucifer was cast out from heaven according to Ezek. 28:16-19.

Vv. 16-19: “Through the abundance of your commerce you were filled with lawlessness and violence, and you sinned; therefore, I cast you out as a profane thing from the mountain of God and the guardian cherub drove you out from the mist of the stones of fire. Your heart was proud and lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I lay you before kings, that they might gaze at you. You have profaned your sanctuaries by the multitude of your iniquities and the enormity of your guilt, by the unrighteousness of your trade. Therefore, I have brought forth a fire from your midst; it has consumed you, and I have reduced you to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all who looked at you. All who know you among the people are astonished and appalled at you; you have come to a horrible end and shall never return to being.”

1. “You became filled with violence within...and you sinned…” • After Lucifer rebelled against God, he began to fill himself with violence = [Hebrew = chamas = malicious, violence, turbulent wrong; intense, or furious and often destructive action or force]. • He became very creative in his use of violence to commit sin against God and God’s created being – . • John 10:10: Jesus describes Lucifer as: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” • From the beginning, one of main tools has been violence: we see it in many forms today.

Therefore, we, as the children of God must not allow ourselves to be influenced by the devil to engage in defaming other ministries, persons, by speaking malicious words and actions towards people we may not agree with. By accusing others, we are destroying their reputations.

2. “I cast you as a profane [Hebrew – chalal: “polluted, profaned, defiled or violated] thing out of the mountain of God… • When Lucifer rebelled, he lost his beauty and perfection and was cast out of the mountain of God. • Satan was immediately judged and condemned by Creator God and such a being could not dwell in His presence of Holiness. • Hab. 1:13: “You are of purer eyes than to behold or look upon , and cannot look on iniquity…” • Creator God was in absolute over the fate of Lucifer from his creation, through his fall and till his final judgement to be carried out in Rev. 20:10. “The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the and brimstone where and the false are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”

This is why we, as believers and children of God must not partake of anything that can be considered by the Holy Spirit as profaned, defiled and violated things of the devil. 1Thess. 5:22 : “Abstain from the very appearance of evil.”

3. “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty: • As describes as one of the most beautiful of God’s created angels, satan became very proud of himself with realizing the honor that God had made him to be that way. It was from God, not himself. • The Word of God warns against a prideful spirit – Prov. 16:18: “ goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” • James 4:6: “God resists the proud, but give grace to the humble.”

The ultimate for satan’s fall was his prideful spirit that tried to exalt himself above the Creator God.

Therefore, as the children of God, we must humble ourselves before Him when His blessings are abundantly flowing in our lives. We must not credit ourselves with this success by our own wisdom, ways, knowledge or beauty – exalting ourselves.

4. “You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor:” • Before his fall, satan had God ordained wisdom to manage heavenly affairs under the command of the Creator. • But after, he was filled with his own beauty and pride, he began to corrupt his divine wisdom to carry out his own wicked plans against the will of God. 3

• Misusing the gifts of God and the Holy Spirit for our own glory can cause our own destruction. There are many ministers and secular leaders and ordinary people that have fallen into the same deception.

5. “I cast you to the ground – earth:” • Satan was judged by Creator God and cast down to the ground – the earth. • The Lord – God Himself rendered the judgement and sentence against rebellious satan who committed his sin in heaven. • God, being Creator, has the option of doing whatever He wants to with His creation in heaven and on earth. • So, satan has already been condemned to be cast into the lake of fire in the future according to Rev. 20:10. • Until then, satan has his appointed time by God to operate his wicked evil schemes against humanity on earth. • Rev. 12:12: “Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.” • Knowing that his time is short, he is warring against God’s chosen people – Rev. 12:17: “And the dragon was enraged with the woman [], and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God [the ], and have the testimony of Jesus Christ [].” • There is a world-wide persecution coming and now is against both Jews and Christians prior to the of Jesus. • Currently as of 2018, there are more than 215 million persecuted Christians worldwide. “World Watchlist.” Therefore, as sons and daughters of God, we must prepare ourselves to face the coming/increasing persecution of the devil as His anointed warriors to fulfill the prophetic word of John in Rev. 12:11: “And they overcame him [satan] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony and they did not love their lives to the .”

6. “You defiled your sanctuaries by the multitude of your iniquities:” • “Sanctuary” = [Hebrew – miqdash”] “Holy place, sacred part, a consecrated place where sacred objects are kept]. • Satan begin to defile his assigned domain in heaven by the multitude of his iniquities. • The is not definitive as to what these defilements committed were, but he was setting himself above God’s commandments and rule in heaven. 4

Therefore, we as His people and the temple of the Holy Spirit, must not walk, live, participate in defilement of our spirit, or bodies. • Some work hard to maintain their youth or their physique not realizing this body belongs to the Lord as Creator. • 1Cor. 6:19-20: “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price [the blood of the Lamb of God – Jesus], therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God’s.” • Heb. 12:14

7. “I turned you to ashes upon the earth…you have become a horror, and shall be no more forever:” • Once the most beautiful, anointed, powerful, wise, splendid, perfect was now cast to the earth and eventually would be forever doomed to the lake of fire to be tormented forever. • Satan became a disobedient, rebellious, violent, prideful, arrogant, miserable, rejected and profane orphan who had been cast from his eternal home down onto the earth. • Now, he is waiting to receive his final judgment of God to fall into the eternal lake of fire.

Therefore, we, as His children, must not allow satan to have any part in us by not yielding to his temptations. By walking in the Spirit so that we don’t fulfill the of our flesh – Gal. 5:16. • If the Holy Spirit has all of us, satan can have no part of us!

Lucifer’s 5 “I will’s” brought him to : Isa. 14:12-15: “How have you fallen from heaven, O light-bringer and daystar, son of the morning. How you have been cut down to the ground, you who weakened and laid low the nations. And you said in your heart, 1. I will ascend to heaven; 2. I will exalt my above the stars of God’ 3. I will upon the mount of the assembly in the uttermost north.

5

4. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds. 5. I will make myself like the Most High. His evil intentions were revealed, the Lord brought judgment to him by pronouncing: “You shall be brought down to Sheol [the abode of the dead]; Psa. 88:3, 5: “For full of troubles, and my life draws near Sheol. I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like a man who has no help or strength, cast away among the dead, like the slain that lie in a nameless grave, who You remember no more, and they are cut off from Your hand.” In the , it is known as – a place of torment – to the lowest of the Pit. The Lord, our Lord and Savior is in total control of every wicked plan the enemy contemplates toward the apex of His creation – Mankind. The Lord is even using satan to fulfill His plans on the earth. Ultimately, satan will be cast into the lake of fire. We need to heed the words that Jesus Himself gave to us in :4-5: “and I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do, but I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into ; yes, I say to you, fear Him.” As we fear/reverence/honor the Lord, not the enemy and his wicked schemes; then His name will be glorified as Psa. 33:8 declares: “Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.

The Lord will fight the battles for the one who fears/reverences His and stands in awe of Him.
