St. Anne’S Feast Day...Our Parish Feast Day! Fr. John’s Message St. Anne’s Feast Day...Our Parish Feast Day! This Monday, July 26th is our parish’s Feast Day, the Feast of Saints Anne and Joachim! Happy Feast Day everyone! Saints Anne and Joachim always invites us to be in relationship with their Divine Grandson Jesus Christ. In order St. Anne to facilitate this beautiful invitation from Saints. Anne and Joachim to spend some time with Jesus, and in order to Catholic Community News celebrate our Parish Feast Day, we will be having two Parish Warren, Michigan Holy Hours of Eucharistic Adoration this upcoming week. Prayer to Saint Anne The first Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration will be on Great St. Anne, Monday, July 26th at Noon. The other Holy Hour will be whose name our parish bears, right after the 11:00am Mass on Sunday, August 1st. Please protect us and pray for us, join us for some peaceful prayer time with Jesus as we that like you, we may serve God faithfully here on earth and celebrate our joyous Feast Day! be with Him in Heaven for all eternity. Page 4 St. Anne News, Warren SAINTS JOACHIM AND ANNE Feast Day: July 26 Saints Joachim and Anne were the parents of Jesus’ mother, Mary. We don’t know many details about their lives because they are never mentioned in the New Testament. Everything we know about them comes down through tradition—the stories people told about them. We believe that they were respected members of the Jewish community and that they wanted to become parents so much that Joachim went into the desert to fast and pray that God would hear their prayer. It is said that an angel told them that they would soon have a daughter who would become famous throughout the world. Months later, Mary, our Blessed Mother, was born. Tradition tells us that when Mary was three years old, Anne and Joachim took her to the temple in Jerusalem to consecrate her for special service to the Lord. We call this celebration the “Presentation of the Virgin Mary.” It means that Mary was to play an important part in God’s loving plan for the world. We honor Mary’s parents, Joachim and Anne, as saints. We celebrate their joint feast day on July 26. Their love for one another and for Mary is an example to us of how God calls us to live. They also remind us to honor our own grandparents and to thank them for the blessings they have passed down to us in love. The beautiful shrine of Ste. Anne de Beaupre in Quebec, Canada, is devoted to St. Anne, and in the Middle Ages numerous churches, chapels, and confraternities were dedicated to her. There is a church of St. Anne in Jerusalem, and it is believed to be built on the site of the home of Saints. Joachim and Anne when they lived in Jerusalem. St. Anne is the patron of grandmothers, among many other things, and Joachim of grandfathers and grandparents. Page 5 Check Out Our Website!     Saints Anne & Joachim ach year the Church venerates the memory of Saints Anne & Joachim Eon July 26th. An ancient story dating to the first centuries of the Church’s life recalls how Saints Anne & Joachim, like Abraham and Sarah, were scorned by their neighbors because they had no children. Years of longing did not weaken their trust in God, but grief eventually drove Saint Joachim into the wilderness to fast and pray. Saint Anne, remaining at home, dressed in mourning clothes and wept because she had no child of her own. Seeing her mistress distressed, a servant girl reminded Anne to put her trust in God. Saint Anne washed her face, put on her bridal clothes and went to a garden to plead with God for a child. Angels appeared to Saint Anne in her garden and Saint Joachim in the desert, promis- ing that, despite their old age, they would give birth to a child who would be known throughout the world. The new parents ran to meet one another at Jerusalem’s Golden Gate, and with a kiss rejoiced in the new life which God had promised would be theirs. Saints Anne and Joachim are powerful intercessors for all married couples, expectant mothers and married couples who are having difficulty conceiving, as well as all who have grown old. About the Mosaic The art of mosaic dates back some five thousand years to ancient Babylon. The mosaic of Saints Anne and Joachim, depicted on the cover of this novena, was made of an Italian glass called smalti. Its intentionally uneven surface makes it highly reflective.

    Matthew 4:1-11 Jesus Mic Drops Satan If Jesus was “God Incarnate”, and God “cannot be tempted with evil” (James 1:13), then why would the Holy Spirit lead Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted and why would it even be in the bible? Notice this event occurs right after Jesus was baptized, right before He began his public ministry and teaching. Both Father and Son knew that Jesus could not be led into sin, so this test cannot be for God or Jesus benefit. So why did Jesus go into the wilderness so He could “Mic Drop” Satan? Does it help to replace the word “tempted” and read it with the word “tested”? Who was this test for then? Before answering that question completely, we need to take a journey back to Genesis in the Garden of Eden. Read Genesis 3:6. On your paper, write down in big letters “The Temptations of Adam and Eve: Genesis 3:6”. Now write down the three temptations that they fell for listed in Genesis 3:6. (and remember, Adam was just as guilty in all this because he knew what was going on. Eve didn’t force feed Adam!) 1. Temptation 1: “good for food”. Where does food end up? What does food ‘feed’? This temptation was appealing to the body. Example (sleep vs church) 2. Temptation 2: “pleasant to the eyes”. When you see things you want or desire, especially things that you find more important than God and His desires for you, where do those sights go? What is fed when you fill your eyes with ungodly desires? This temptation was appealing to the soul.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BOOK OF JONAH BOTTOM LINE INTRODUCTION THIS BOOK CONTAINS THE BIGGEST FISH STORY OF ALL TIME. BUT IT ISN’T WHAT YOU THINK IT IS. Almost everyone has heard the story of the huge sea creature that swallowed Jonah, and about Jonah’s pitiful prayer for deliverance while inside its stomach (ch. 1-2). But the real fish story takes place in chapter 3. To understand this, consider an event that would transpire some seven centuries later in northern Israel: “And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him” (Mt. 4:18-20). In this passage Jesus taught that the “fish” God is looking to catch are sinful men, and the real “fishermen” are soul winners.
