CIVIC envisions a world in which no civilian is harmed in conflict. Our mission is to support communities affected by conflict in their quest for protection and strengthen the resolve and capacity of armed actors to prevent and respond to civilian harm. CIVIC was established in 2003 by Marla Ruzicka, a young humanitarian who advocated on behalf of civilians affected by the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Honoring Marla’s legacy, CIVIC has kept an unflinching focus on the protection of civilians in conflict. Today, CIVIC has a presence in conflict zones and key capitals throughout the world where it collaborates with civilians to bring their protection concerns directly to those in power, engages with armed actors to reduce the harm they cause to civilian populations, and advises governments and multinational bodies on how to make life-saving and lasting policy changes. CIVIC’s strength is its proven approach and record of improving protection outcomes for civilians by working directly with conflict-affected communities and armed actors. At CIVIC, we believe civilians are not “collateral damage” and civilian harm is not an unavoidable consequence of conflict—civilian harm can and must be prevented. -

- 1 - 1 Daily Report 112/2021 17 May 20211 Summary In Donetsk region, between the evenings of 14 and 16 May, the SMM recorded 1,173 ceasefire violations, including 53 explosions. In the previous reporting period, it recorded 197 ceasefire violations in the region. In Luhansk region, between the evenings of 14 and 16 May, the Mission recorded 192 ceasefire violations, including 67 explosions. In the previous reporting period, it recorded 74 ceasefire violations in the region. A man was injured due to undetermined explosive objects in Dovhe and a girl was injured due to gunfire in Voznesenivka (formerly Chervonopartyzansk), Luhansk region. The SMM continued monitoring the disengagement areas near Stanytsia Luhanska, Zolote and Petrivske. It recorded ceasefire violations inside the disengagement area near Petrivske and SMM unmanned-aerial vehicles spotted people inside the disengagement areas near Zolote and Petrivske. The Mission facilitated and monitored adherence to localized ceasefires to enable the operation of critical civilian infrastructure. The SMM continued following up on the situation of civilians, including at three entry-exit checkpoints and the corresponding checkpoints of the armed formations in Luhansk region. In the previous reporting period, it recorded two ceasefire violations in Donetsk region and none in Luhansk region. • A man died due to the detonation of a hand grenade in Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk region. • The SMM continued monitoring the disengagement areas near Stanytsia Luhanska, Zolote and Petrivske. During March 2014 ASG Ivan Šimonović visited Ukraine twice, and travelled to Bakhchisaray, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Sevastopol and Simferopol, where he met with national and local authorities, Ombudspersons, civil society and other representatives, and victims of alleged human rights abuses. This report is based on his findings, also drawing on the work of the newly established United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU). -

UNHCR UKRAINE Thematic Update | February 2020 INDIVIDUAL PROTECTION ASSISTANCE February 2020 Olena* and little Daryna* had to rebuild their lives from scratch after their family’s house, in the town of Zolote, was damaged by shelling in February 2019. Having witnessed the hardships of war, 3-year-old Daryna became psychologically traumatized and stopped talking. For a while, the family lived with relatives and later moved to social housing provided by the local administration. With support by UNHCR and its NGO partner Proliska, the family was provided with psychosocial assistance and Individual Protection Assistance (IPA) cash. This was used to access medical examination for Daryna as well as to purchase a bed to sleep on, a small oven, a kettle, and warm clothes to protect them from the freezing winter of Ukraine. Thanks to the support the family received, Daryna is now ready to attend the local kindergarten while her father has already found a job as a miner which allows him to provide for his family. As part of its wider protection response, UNHCR provides Individual Protection Assistance (IPA) to the most vulnerable among the displaced and other conflict-affected persons in eastern Ukraine. The IPA programme provides a one-time cash or non-cash assistance to persons with specific protection needs in order to prevent their exposure to further risks. Potential beneficiaries are identified, either by UNHCR or NGO partners, during case management or protection monitoring missions to the field. IPA is also used to complement other UNHCR protection activities such as shelter, Peaceful Coexistence projects, Community Support Initiatives, protection counselling, legal assistance and/or advocacy on individual cases/issues at the local level. -

Latet from the OC pecial Monitoring Miion to Ukraine (MM), aed on information received a of 19:30, 17 Decemer 2018 KYIV 18 December 2018 This report is for the media and the general public. Summary Compared with the previous 24 hours, the SMM recorded more ceasere violations in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The Mission observed weapons in violation of withdrawal lines on both sides of the contact line. The SMM facilitated and monitored adherence to the ceasere to enable repairs to essential civilian infrastructure as well as damaged houses in Marinka and Krasnohorivka. It continued to facilitate the operation of the Donetsk Filtration Station. Restrictions of the Mission’s access continued in all three disengagement areas. The SMM was also restricted at two weapons storage sites in non- government-controlled-areas of Donetsk region, as well as Novoamvrosiivske and Makiivka and close to Voznesenivka, a non- government-controlled area of Luhansk region near the border with the Russian Federation.* Ceasefire violations[1] In Donetsk region, the SMM recorded more ceasefire violations, including about 70 explosions, compared with the previous 24 hours (about 45 explosions). More than half of the ceasere violations were recorded in areas south-east of Svitlodarsk (government-controlled, 57km north-east of Donetsk). In Luhansk region, the SMM recorded more ceasere violations (of which more than half were recorded in the security zone), including about 200 explosions, compared with the previous 24 hours (85 explosions). More than half of the explosions were recorded in areas south of Syrotyne (government-controlled, 71km north-west of Luhansk) and south-east of Zolote-2/Karbonit (government-controlled, 62km west of Luhansk) (see the disengagement areas section below). -
