This year we have marked 10 years of work, passion, desire and fatigue, to overcome yesterday, towards a different tomorrow from today. All the challenges that we encounter are the starting point for change and progress. 2013 was a difficult year. Regarding the Albanian economy, I would characterize it as the most difficult year, where structural changes left consequences in the economy. But it was overcome, with a great responsibility, desire and commitment to the common good. We are now ranked among the top banks of the Albanian banking market. We have maximized everything in our whole organization. We increased sales, analysis and control. We have reformed the structure according to a market that experienced weakness and oscillation, but also endurance. We have focused on existing customers supporting their business, but also on the new ones. We have learned from the appalling economic factors and focused on such sectors where need and demand for products provides lifespan, expanding lending and comprehensive support. Our financial results during 2013 are indicative of a sustainable and healthy development where is worth mentioning: In terms of performance of the entire banking system of the country, our deposit growth exceeded overall market growth with 3.42% and our growth in total loans exceeded the market which fell by 1.84%.

Our financial results for 2012 show both the progress we have made and the challenges that remain. In 2012, the Bank revenues, net of interest expense rose to Lek 4,7 billion or increased by 16% comparing to 2011. The net profit of Lek 669 million showed a decline comparing to 2011 but that was a reflection of increased reserve for loans loss. Obviously, our net profit does not yet reflect the work we are doing to strengthen capital, reduce risk and attract more business from our customers. There are many issues weighing not only on us, but on the entire financial services sector. These include concerns about the global economy, the implementation of new regulations and capital requirements, how these new rules may affect our ability to deliver for our customers and clients, and the time it will take to resolve collateral issues. There is more work to do, but today we are better organized to serve our customers and clients, to offer customers more reasons to do more business with us, to earn the Artan SAntO, CEO profits our shareholders expect, and to contribute to economic growth in all of the communities we serve.

  • ALBANIA Crawling Upeachothertoreach Ofisolated Thetopsofhills,Andpockets Beaches
© Lonely Planet Publications 48 Albania ALBANIA ALBANIA Albania is a meat-and-three-veg kind of country. The meat – kidney shaped – spreads along the west-coast beaches of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, while the veg consists of the alpine mountains and brilliant green Lake Koman in the north and the thriving wetlands near Vlora in the south. Tirana, almost smack bang in Albania’s heart, makes a tasty and surprisingly colourful and trendy side dish, and there’s no doubt that the Unesco-listed and easily ac- cessible Ottoman towns of Berat and Gjirokastra are dessert. Coffee is the extraordinary site of Butrint, bereft of tourists but rich in archaeological finds. There are millions of ethnic Albanians in neighbouring countries, and as many as a million Albanians make a living in the UK, Italy, Greece, USA and Australia. In summer, hundreds of thousands return, bumping up the local tourism industries and turning quiet seaside spots into loud discos where every day is a thumping weekend. In contrast, northern men and women still wear traditional dress and shepherds guide flocks along grassy ledges in the otherwise inhospitable mountains. International travellers with no links to Albania are still a relatively new phenomenon, and benefit from practically unrestricted access to castles and century-old houses as well as incredibly generous hospitality and friendliness. Mind the potholes, packs of mangy dogs and undecipher- able addresses, and take in the unique sights of Albania: donkeys tethered to bunkers, houses crawling up each other to reach the tops of hills, and pockets of isolated beaches.

95 VISUAL ARTS 2.10. FINE /VISUAL ARTS By Ferid Hudhri Note:This chapter covers the early and historical development of visual arts (scuplture, painting, mosaics, etc). There are special chapter on Photograhy, Heraldry, Numismatics, etc , based on their historical development. 1. Antiquity Figurative arts in the Albanian land date back to an- tiquity. The first findings are from the Neolithic Period. Through numerous archaeological discoveries in various areas of the country hundreds and thousands items of ce- ramics, terra cotta, metallic ornaments, etc., belonging to Illyrian tribes, Albanians’ ancestors, have been found. The earliest artifacts are simple; intended for practical applica- tion, and they also contain artistic values embodied in their zoomorphic styles of vessels and their ornaments, carv- ings and other elements. From the 6th century to the 4th century B.C. lines and geometric figures were drawn in ceramics; the form is constructed with silhouettes of a more elegant shape that comes to be enriched with plastic ele- ments. Many vessels of this period, that are preserved to this day in museums of Albania have genuine distinguish- able autochthonous artistic values not encountered in the art of the “Dea of Butrint” marble sculpture ancient neighboring countries, such as Hellenes, Macedonians or Romans. It’s with these ancient vessels, ornamented with maleable decorations and fractures, that the developments of sculpture in Al- bania begins (see chapter 2.2.Archaeology). More clear-cut features appeared particularly with the formation of Illyrian cities, such as Bylis, Amantia, Phoinike and Buthrot, and also those of Hellenic settle- ments, Durrhachium, Apollonia and Orichum.
