Isopogon drummondii Benth. nom. illeg. is lectotypified and replaced by the new name I. autumnalis Rye & T.Macfarlane while I. drummondii Hügel ex Jacques is recognised as a probable synonym of I. sphaerocephalus Lindl. The new subspecies I. sphaerocephalus subsp. lesueurensis Rye is described. Introduction This paper undertakes to settle the uncertainty around the name of a Western Australian species of Isopogon R.Br. (Proteaceae), the solution to which involves a second species, in which a new subspecies is recognised. In his treatment of Isopogon for the Flora of Australia, Foreman (1995) described one species as I. sp. A because he was uncertain whether the name I. drummondii Hügel ex Jacques (Jacques 1843) applied to it. A later-published name with the same epithet, I. drummondii Benth. (Bentham 1870), does apply to Foreman’s species A but cannot be used because it is an illegitimate later homonym. The name I. drummondii Hügel ex Jacques was not mentioned by Bentham (1870), possibly because it was published in a horticultural context. -

Abstract Canopy arthropods and foliar nutrients were quantified during summer for Banksia menziesii, B. attenuata, B. ilicifolia and Nuytsia floribunda within a low woodland site at Jandakot Airport on the Swan Coastal Plain, Western Australia. Foliar nutrients were higher for N. floribunda than any of the Banksia species. B. ilicifolia differed from the other two banksias in having lower nitrogen and phosphorus but higher potassium. Invertebrate densities were also higher for N. floribunda than any of the Banksia species, while densities on the three Banksia species were relatively similar, albeit with a few predominantly phytophagous taxa having a higher density on B. ilicifolia. These trends provide evidence that, as in other ecosystems where this has been studied, differing arthropod loads between tree species are related to variation in foliar nutrient levels. Tree usage by predominantly insectivorous birds may reflect the relatively low difference in arthropod loads between the three Banksia species and an uneconomic strategy of seeking out low-density N. floribunda trees. Aspects of the morphology and taxonomy of the informal Leucopogon pulchellus Sond. group are discussed and an interim key is provided to distinguish between the five informal groups and other unplaced species of Leucopogon s. str. from Western Australia. Introduction The Leucopogon pulchellus Sond. group (or Group C) is one of five informal, subgeneric groups delineated by Hislop and Chapman (2007) to accommodate the majority of the Western Australian species of Leucopogon R.Br. s. str. This interim classification was raised in large part to provide a taxonomic framework into which the many Western Australian taxa then in need of formal descriptions could be placed. It was considered a better alternative than attempting to utilise Bentham’s (1868) manifestly artificial classification. The informal groups are based on morphological characters only, particularly, aspects of their fruiting morphology. Although, as discussed previously (Hislop & Chapman 2007), the L. -

1 Description and Assessment of the Nature Conservation
DESCRIPTION AND ASSESSMENT OF THE NATURE CONSERVATION VALUES OF BENJE-BENJENUP LAKE AND ADJACENT BUSHLAND 1.0 INTRODUCTON Lake Benje-Benjenup and its adjacent bushland are located 17 km north north east of Esperance on the south east coast of WA. The lake is within unvested reserve no. 14563 of 149 ha gazetted in 1913 for ‘water’. The lake has maximum dimensions of 1.2 x 1.0 km and an area of approximately 90 ha. The adjacent bushland is to the east of the lake on Esperance location 650, which is privately owned by N & P Blumann and part of the farming property ‘Olimarena’. Approximately 85 ha of 130 ha of remnant bush is the subject of this assessment. ‘Benje-Benjenup’ is of aboriginal derivation, the meaning is unrecorded by Department of Land Information; the name was first used for the lake on a plan drafted by surveyor R Brazier in 1894. The regional setting of the lake is in Coramup Creek catchment, a sub-catchment of the Lake Warden system of southward flowing drainages and high value coastal wetlands including Lakes Warden, Woody and part of Lake Mullett which are RAMSAR wetlands. However, the lake appears to function as an internally draining system independent of the larger catchment; it is fed by brackish seepages along the shoreline and a saline creek of approximately 6 km length entering from the north west. Benje-Benjenup Lake is described as a ‘permanent saline lake’ in fair condition, requiring significant management intervention in the biodiversity audit of WA’s Biogeographical Regions (May & McKenzie 2002). -

VEGETATION CONSERVATION NOTICE CPS 8671/1 Persons to whom this vegetation conservation notice is given: (being the occupier of the land described below) Shire of Esperance 77 Windich Street Esperance WA 6450 Land to which this vegetation conservation notice relates (“the land”): Lot 262 on Deposited Plan 209352 as comprised on Certificate of Title Volume LR3022 Folio 738 Reasons for which this vegetation conservation notice is given: This vegetation conservation notice is given because I reasonably suspect on the following grounds that unlawful clearing has taken place and is likely to take place on the land: • The Shire of Esperance 2018 Annual Audit Compliance and Environmental Report for Cleanng Permit CPS 5259/1 shows that native vegetation was cleared outside the area authorised by Clearing Permit CPS 5259/1; • Aerial photography from February 2013 and March 2018 shows that native vegetation was cleared on the land; • A site inspection of the land by a Department of Water and Environmental Regulation Inspector on 10 September 2018 confirmed that clearing was earned out; • The clearing was not authorised by Clearing Permit CPS 5259/1; « The clearing was not for an exempt purpose; and • The clearing is unauthorised clearing under section 51C of the Environmental Protection Act 1986. Requirements of this Notice: The persons to whom this vegetation conservation notice is given, and each subsequent owner and occupier of the land wdio is bound by this vegetation conservation notice, are required to undertake the following specified measures, for a period of ten years from the date this notice is given to re-establish and maintain vegetation on the area affected by the clearing to a condition as near as possible to the condition of the vegetation before the clearing occurred: 1.
