He was critical of Sir John Franklin, RN and much admired by Vilhjalmur Stefansson. Rae brought relics from the Franklin expedition to Britain. Includes Lady Jane Franklin material, Charles Dickens and cannibalism (charged) on Franklin’s 1845 expedition.

10.2 Commodore George Anson, RN Commodore Anson (1697-1762) circumnavigated the globe from 1740-1744, and captured great treasure. Materials here are related to his experiences in China, and his voyage to the Pacific. Also, there is information on the Anson Society which was established to encourage study of British naval developments, promote interest in and appreciation of Anson, and to bring together fellow enthusiasts.

10.4 Major F. Longstaff material Major Longstaff of Victoria, British Columbia gave this material to Gerald S. Graham. The material was then given to Barry Gough in 1966.

10.5 Pacific Ocean and Islands, 19th century Gerald S. Graham, Rhodes Professor of Imperial History in the University of London, was Barry Gough’s PhD thesis advisor. He had intended a work on the Pacific as an extension of his books on the Indian Ocean, China Sea and North Atlantic, but found the topic too vast. When Graham retired in the late 1960s he presented this material to Barry Gough. Gough has made some additions.
