Comme les autres, Gosse etait prindpalement attire par Ie pittoresque du paysage. n n'a pas tarde aretourner en Angleterre ou if est devenu un naturaliste renomme apres la publication de The Canadian Naturalist, ouvrage base sur I'observation minutieuse des plantes et des animaux des environs de sa ferme du canton de Compton. Cet article examine les descriptions faites par Gosse du paysage local et presente son regard porte sur les relations entre la sodete humaine et fa nature. ABSTRACT Philip Henry Gosse was one of a number of well-educated British settlers seduced by the vision of becoming gentlemen farmers in the Eastern Townships during the 1830s. Gosse, like the others, was attracted primarily by the picturesque landscape. He soon returned to England where he became a widely read naturalist after publishing The Canadian Naturalist, which was based on careful observations of the plants and animals in the vicinity of his Compton Township farm. This paper examines Gosse's descriptions of the local landscape and discusses his attitude to the relationship between human society and nature. -

OPEN COURSE AQ5 D01 ORNAMENTAL FISH CULTURE GENERAL INTRODUCTION An aquarium is a marvelous piece of nature in an enclosed space, gathering the attraction of every human being. It is an amazing window to the fascinating underwater world. The term ‘aquarium’is a derivative of two words in Latin, i.e aqua denoting ‘water’ and arium or orium indicating ‘compartment’. Philip Henry Gosse, an English naturalist, was the first person to actually use the word "aquarium", in 1854 in his book The Aquarium: An Unveiling of the Wonders of the Deep Sea. In this book, Gosse primarily discussed saltwater aquaria. Aquarium or ornamental fish keeping has grown from the status of a mere hobby to a global industry capable of generating international exchequer at considerable levels. History shows that Romans have kept aquaria (plural for ‘aquarium’) since 2500 B.C and Chinese in 1278-960 B.C. But they used aquaria primarily for rearing and fattening of food fishes. Chinese developed the art of selective breeding in carp and goldfish, probably the best known animal for an aquarium. Ancient Egyptians were probably the first to keep the fish for ornamental purpose. World’s first public aquarium was established in Regents Park in London in 1853. Earlier only coldwater fishes were kept as pets as there was no practical system of heating which is required for tropical freshwater fish. The invention of electricity opened a vast scope of development in aquarium keeping. The ease of quick transportation and facilities for carting in temperature controlled packaging has broadened the horizon for this hobby. -

We are a local group of aquatic enthusiasts. Formed in 1952, the Greater Akron Aquarium Society is a non-profit, non-commercial organization. Our membership ranges from the beginning hobbyist to the advanced aquarist with many years of experience. The goals of our club are to promote the care, study, breeding and exhibition of aquarium related aquatic life and to promote interest in the aquarium hobby. MEETINGS: Our meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 8:00 p.m. at the Mogadore Community/Senior Center, 3857 Mogadore Road, Mogadore, Ohio. It is located East of Route 532 across from McDonald’s in the former post office building (see map on inside back cover) Visitors are always welcome, it costs absolutely nothing to attend a meeting and look us over. EFECTO ECOTOXICOLÓGICO DEL METOMILO EN Corydoras LACÉPÈDE, 1803 (SILURIFORMES: CALLICHTHYIDAE) Y SU CARACTERIZACIÓN LEUCOCITARIA ECOTOXICOLOGICAL EFFECT OF METHOMYL ON Corydoras LACÉPÈDE, 1803 (SILURIFORMES: CALLICHTHYIDAE) AND ITS LEUKOCYTE CHARACTERIZATION José Iannacone1,2 y Lorena Alvariño2 Resumen El metomilo es un carbamato inhibidor de la acetilcolinesterasa que actúa por contacto- sistémico y es uno de los agroquímicos de mayor uso como insecticida-acaricida para el control de un amplio rango de plagas agrícolas. En el Perú es escasa la información publicada de aspectos hematológicos de osteictios para su uso potencial como biomarcador fisiológico de respuesta subletal en bioensayos ecotoxicológicos. Los objetivos del presente trabajo fueron: 1) evaluar el efecto ecotoxicológico agudo del metomilo sobre el pez amazónico ornamental Corydoras arcuatus Elwin, 1939 (Callichthyidae) a 2, 4, 6, 8, 24 y 48 h de exposición, y 2) caracterizar los leucocitos de C. arcuatus, Corydoras leucomelas Eigenmann & Allen, 1972 y Corydoras leopardus Myers, 1933, y determinar los valores de referencia cuantitativos. Los bioensayos con metomilo se realizaron en envases plásticos de 1000 mL. Se encontraron valores de CL50 (mg IA -1 L ) de 10.84; 3.18; 0.28; 0.01; 0.002 y < 0.002 a 2, 4, 6, 8, 24 y 48 h, respectivamente. La TL50 a la concentración más baja de 3.2 mg L-1 fue 4.83 h. La extracción de la sangre, se llevó a cabo por el método de punción cardiaca, realizándose luego extensiones teñidas con Giemsa y con Wright. -

Diário Oficial da União – Seção I, Nº3, quarta-feira, 4 de janeiro de 2012, páginas 26 a 42 – ISSN 1677-7042 GABINETE DO MINISTRO INSTRUÇÃO NORMATIVA INTERMINISTERIAL N°1, DE 3 DE JANEIRO DE 2012 Estabelece normas, critérios e padrões para a explotação de peixes nativos ou exóticos de águas continentais com finalidade ornamental ou de aquariofilia. O MINISTRO DE ESTADO DA PESCA E AQUICULTURA e a MINISTRA DE ESTADO DO MEIO AMBIENTE no uso de suas atribuições, e tendo em vista o disposto nas Leis n°s 10.683, de 28 de maio de 2003, e 11.959, de 29 de junho de 2009, bem como o constante do Processo IBAMA/Sede nº 02001.002681/04- 06, resolvem: Art.1º - Estabelecer normas, critérios e padrões para a explotação de peixes nativos ou exóticos de águas continentais com finalidade ornamental ou de aquariofilia. Parágrafo único. Esta Instrução Normativa Interministerial não se aplica às seguintes situações: I - exposição em restaurantes, para fins de consumo alimentar de peixes vivos; e II - exposição de peixes vivos em zoológicos, mostras ou similares com finalidade didática, educacional ou científica. CAPÍTULO I DAS DISPOSIÇÕES PRELIMINARES Art. 2º - Para efeito desta Instrução Normativa Interministerial, considera-se: I - Ornamentação: utilizar organismos vivos ou não, para fins decorativos, ilustrativos ou de lazer; e II - Aquariofilia: manter ou comercializar, para fins de lazer ou de entretenimento, indivíduos vivos em aquários, tanques, lagos ou reservatórios de qualquer tipo. CAPÍTULO II DA CAPTURA E EXPLOTAÇÃO Art. 3º - Fica permitida a captura, o transporte e a comercialização de exemplares vivos de peixes nativos das espécies listadas no Anexo I desta Instrução Normativa Interministerial.
