RESUMO A ictiofauna de interesse ornamental do estado do Pará foi estudada com enfoque na sua composição e distribuição nas regiões hidrográficas paraense. Revelou através do inventário de espécies divida em: Loricariidae (329), seguida pelas Characidae (139), Cichlidae (133), Callichthyidae (51), Lebiasinidae e Auchenipteridae (22), Pimelodidae (21), Potamotrygonidae e Doradidae (19), Anostomidae e Rivulidae (16) e Crenuchidae e Poeciliidae (10). Registraram-se ainda casos de família com menos de 10 spp, tendo sido registradas uma riqueza de 928 espécies, pertencentes a 271 gêneros e distribuídas em 47 famílias e 14 ordens. Das espécies registradas, 595 espécies apresentaram identificações taxonômicas e registros nos diferentes bancos de dados, enquanto 333 espécies foram identificadas com “status” taxonômico ainda indefinido. Mesmo com o registro de 270 gêneros distintos, ressalta-se a riqueza muito elevada concentrada em 12 gêneros com números acima de 15 espécies: Loricariidae com os gêneros Ancistrus (44, 4,74%), Hypancistrus (24, 2,59%) , Hypostomus (24, 2,59%) , Baryancistrus (23, 2,48%) , Pseudacanthicus (22, 2,37%) e Peckoltia (30, 3,23%); Callichthyidae com gênero Corydoras (44, 4,74%); Cichlidae com os gêneros Crenicichla (44, 4,74%) e Apistogramma (24, 2,59%); Characidae com os gêneros Moenkhausia (20, 2,16%) e Hyphessobrycon (18, 1,94%) e Potamotrygonidae com gênero Potamotrygon (16, 1,72%). Assim, definem-se como grupos de maior diversificação os pequenos e médios acaris, “corredoras”, acarás e jacundás, tetras e arraias. Mesmo espécies ameaçadas, sejam vulneráveis ou mesmo as criticamente em perigo, ainda são comercilizadas clandestinamente no estado. Discussões sobre listas de espécies encontradas e permitidas e uma comparação da ictiofauna das regiões hidrográficas do estado do Pará são apresentadas. Palavras-chave: Peixes ornamentais. Ictiofauna. Regiões hidrográficas. ABSTRACT The icthyfauna of ornamental interest of the Para State has been studied with focus on the composition and distribution on Para hidrographic regions. It revealed through the invetory of species divided in: Loricariidae (329), followed by the Characidae (139), Cichlidae (133), Callichthyidae (51), Lebiasinidae e Auchenipteridae (22), Pimelodidae (21), Potamotrygonidae and Doradidae (19), Anostomidae and Rivulidae (16) and Crenuchidae and Poeciliidae (10). There were also registered cases of families with less than 10 spp, having been registered a richness of 928 species, belonging to 271 genres and distributed in 47 families and 14 orders. From registered species, 595 species presented taxonomic identifications and registers in the different databases, while 333 species were identified with taxonomic “status” yet undefined. Even with the register of 270 distinct genres, stands out the very elevated richness in 12 genres with numbers above 15 species: Loricariidae with genres Ancistrus (44, 4,74%), Hypancistrus (24, 2,59%), Hypostomus (24, 2,59%), Baryancistrus (23, 2,48%), Pseudacanthicus (22, 2,37%) and Peckoltia (30, 3,23%); Callichtyidae with genres Corydoas (44, 4,74%); Cichlidae with genres Crenicichla (44, 4,74%)

Abstract On the basis of fish collections made between 1991 and 2014, four species of the seasonal killifish genusNeofundulus are reported to occur in the Brazilian Pantanal, Paraguay river basin: N. parvipinnis, endemic to the Cuiabá and São Lourenço river drainages, in the northern portion of the Pantanal; N. rubrofasciatus, new species, from the Miranda river drainage, N. aureomaculatus, new species, from the Aqui- dauana river drainage, both in the south-eastern portion of the Pantanal; and N. paraguayensis, occurring in the Paraguay and Nabileque river floodplains, in the southern part of the Pantanal. The new species are diagnosed by unique colour patterns, and a combination of morphological characters states indicating that they are more closely related to N. parvipinnis and N. splendidus than to N. paraguayensis. News New classification and species names Five new South American Annuals have been described. These are Cynopoecilus fulgens, C. intimus, C. nigrovittatus and C. multipapillatus. A Nematolebias papilliferus has also been described. The genus Nematolebias has also been redefined and now only contains Nematolebias papilliferus and whitei. Abstract: This study compared the parasites community in Corydoras ephippifer, Corydoras melanistius, Corydoras amapaensis and Corydoras spilurus from tributaries from the Amapari River in State of Amapá (Brazil). A total of 151 fish of these four ornamental species were examined, of which 66.2% were parasitized by one or more species, and a total of 732 parasites were collected. Corydoras ephippifer (91.2%) and C. spilurus (98.8%) were the most parasitized hosts, while C. amapaensis (9.6%) was the least parasitized. A high similarity (≅ 75%) of parasite communities was found in the host species.

The guppy, Poecilia reticulata, has long been a premier model for such studies because female preferences and orange coloration are well known to covary, especially in upstream/downstream pairs of populations. However, focused single species studies lack the explanatory power of the comparative method, which requires detailed knowledge of multiple species with known evolutionary relationships. Here we describe a red color polymorphism in Poecilia picta, a close relative to guppies. We show that this polymorphism is restricted to males and is maintained in natural populations of mainland South America. Using tests of female preference we show female P. picta are not more attracted to red males, despite preferences for red/orange in closely related species, such as P. reticulata and P. parae. Male color patterns in these closely related species are different from P. picta in that they occur in discrete patches and are frequently Y chromosome-linked. P. reticulata have an almost infinite number of male patterns, while P. parae males occur in discrete morphs. We show the red male polymorphism in P. picta extends continuously throughout the body and is not a Y-linked trait despite the theoretical prediction that sexually-selected characters should often be linked to the heterogametic sex chromosome.
