2016 Annual Report WE ARE JEWISH MEMPHIS Keeping our Jewish community Cared for, Connected, and Engaged. LETTER TO THE COMMUNITY Connecting philanthropy with the needs of Jewish families and individuals is at the core of our mission, and the primary focus of Memphis Jewish Federation and Jewish Foundation of Memphis, the two organizations managed by Jewish Community Partners (JCP). We are honored to lead committed volunteers and professionals who together are working to strengthen our community culture of giving through annual gifts, donor advised funds, endowment funds, and legacy gifts. This partnership supports a global network of services for Jews in need. We make the connection between those who give and those who need Gary Kaplan, Chair through JCP. On one side, we have causes and initiatives, emergencies and Jewish Community Partners opportunities. On the other side, we have generous individuals and families who strive to share their good fortune and success, who are committed to tikkun olam – repairing the world. We’ve done our homework, studying the current landscape within which we operate, aiming for an in-depth understanding of why people give and how they give. We funded a needs assessment study in order to understand the needs of our Memphis Jewish community and populations that were under served. We reached out to congregations, Jewish organizations and schools, meeting with their professional and lay leaders. We studied the data. We pulled thoughtful and innovative community members into our discussions. We met with you, members of the community, and from these conversations charted a new course. Now, we’re on a data-driven journey, steered by an in-depth understanding of what’s needed. Sandy Blockman, Chair Jewish Foundation of Memphis This Annual Report is our way to demonstrate the success of our thoughtful, intentional, and collaborative work over the past year. We hope to show that our deliberate, data-driven approach to fundraising and to granting has helped you meet your charitable goals while at the same time helped Jews with the greatest needs. JCP is the steward of $85 million of charitable resources, raising and directing as much as $8 million each year.
