PARADISE RESTORED Scanned and Edited by Paul Nethercott © 2002 Maranatha Media 1 AUTHOR'S FOREWORD WE LIVE in a wonderful world, surrounded by a more wonderful universe, of which our world is only a small part. The blazing sun, the twinkling stars, the birds, the beasts, the flowers, and a thousand other things in nature all are marvels that stagger the imagination. Whence came all these things? Did they appear by blind chance, or did someone make them and set them in order? And man-whence did he come? What was his origin? and what may he know of his destiny? These questions have puzzled the minds of the great and learned for millenniums, and still many inquirers have not found a satisfactory answer. The most wonderful things about the universe are its perfect order and symmetry. There are untold millions of planets like our world, all spinning through space at terrific speeds and yet with the exactness and precision of clockwork. There is never any lost motion, never the slightest deviation from the usual path, never a collision between two of these heavenly bodies; everywhere and always is perfect organization, harmony, and beauty. Many men have believed that the earth and the universe came into being through some process of evolution, behind which was no plan and no intelligence; that the universe just happened; that man came from some lower order of life perhaps from the ape or monkey family-and that this family in turn sprang from still lower orders of life. The great difficulty about the various evolutionary theories is the fact that not one of them has ever been proved. The most preposterous teaching on earth is that which asks man to believe that an orderly universe such as ours, with all its symmetry and beauty, could come into being without someone's first planning it and then executing that plan. Such teaching staggers faith and leaves man entirely void of any certain knowledge as to his origin or the beginning of things about him. In f act, the evolutionist knows of no beginning. If he thinks back to a time when there was nothing, then he has gone back too far, since he then has nothing to begin with and no one to plan a beginning. He is always groping in the dark. Created by God Several thousand years ago the Biblical prophet Moses, under inspiration, wrote of these things, and said: 9n the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Gen. 1: 1. These are the first words of the Bible, and they are the most logical and satisfactory explanation ever given of the origin of the universe. The Bible begins with a living, all-powerful all-wise God, who has power to create-to make things from nothing. He is presented as the great Architect and Builder of all things. “By Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: and He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.” Col. 1: 16, 17. “And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning has laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Thine hands.” Heb. 1: 10. The Bible story of creation as found in the first three chapters of Genesis declares that this earth, with all that pertains to it, was made in six literal days, perfect and good. “And God saw everything that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.” Gen. 1: 31; 2: 1. Everything started in its creation at its highest state of perfection. The first lily that bloomed in the earth was not evolved from some wild plant, but, on the very day that it was created, shone forth in glory greater than Solom6n's. The grapes hung in full, luscious clusters on the vine. The, giants of the forest were perfect in form and size on the day ,that they were created. “These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, and every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew.” Gen. 2: 4, 5. “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” Gen. 1: 29. These things did not, therefore, grow up by slow development from atoms or germs. Everything in the world and the universe, whether man, animal, or plant, started with a full grown and perfect life. 'That is God's creation. Drama of the Ages by William Branson The idea that the first man was a half -developed, savage brute and that his home was among the caves is a fable concocted by Satan, who is God's enemy. It has no foundation in either fact or reason. The most perfect human being, aside from Christ, ever to live upon the earth was the first man. He was like God. The record says: “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.” Gen. 1: 27. Even after sin deprived the first pair of access to Eden and placed them under the shadow of death, the physical strength of the early 'generations of men was such that many lived to be almost one thousand years old. Man was God's masterpiece in the creation of the earth. He was to have been God's personal representative and to govern in His new creation. Alas, that man should ever have fallen from that high estate and forfeited his right even to his home in Eden! Alas, for man, that Paradise should be so hard to regain! Said David, the king of Israel, of the Creator: “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handiwork.” Ps. 19: 1. Everything in the natural realm speaks of God and testifies to His creative power. The Earth Take the earth. There was a time when almost everyone believed it to be flat. Then came the knowledge that the earth is a round ball some 25,000 miles in circumference. Three fourths of this globe is covered with water, and yet none of it spills out and is wasted. Men and women travel around the earth, north and south, east and west; and yet they have never succeeded in finding its moorings or foundations. In fact, it has none. Job, God's ancient prophet, declared concerning the Creator: “He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.” job 26: 7. When God created this world, He placed it out in space and started it spinning like a top. There it has remained, in obedience to His command. Nor is this all. The earth sweeps around the sun many times faster than the swiftest modern aeroplane flies. It is constantly on the move through space. The slightest deviation off course or any sudden false motion would result in the instantaneous destruction of its inhabitants. The same is true of other planets. But these calamities never happen. Why? There can be only one satisfactory answer. The God who formed them and started them in motion guides them by His own powerful hand as they fly through space and as each performs its own peculiar functions. The Stars One day God asked His servant Abraham, “Canst thou tell the stars by number?”. No, he could not, nor can anyone today, after thousands of years of effort aided by all the marvellous instruments of modern invention. Scholars today, of course, know more of the heavenly host than did Abraham, but this increased knowledge does not bring the desired answer.

0 The God of Our Fathers This manuscript is designed to be a catalyst for further personal study By Kelvin D Cobbin 1 The God of Our Fathers An intriguing look into the emergence of the trinity doctrine within the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Great changes to an organisation are usually long and protracted and in many cases are often undetected, except to those responsible for instigating the change. Throughout this paper I have endeavoured to give an accurate account of the most significant theological shift to have ever taken place in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. There has been a considerable amount of material written in regards to this change from those endeavouring to justify the change, and on the other hand, those who are disturbed with the change and feel that not only was it unjustified but it has plunged the church and its future into jeopardy. It is my intention to put together a compelling account, from historical records, from biblical evaluation, and from the prophet to the remnant to show that this change was indeed the most extraordinary shift of fundamental belief within the history of our Denomination. There’s a promise from God to Israel in Isa 42:16 which I believe is for just such a time “...I will make darkness light before them and crooked things straight...” BBBibleBible quotes from the King James Version 2 TTTheThheehe GGooGodGoddd ooffof OOuurrOur FFaatthheerrssFathers FFoorrwwaarrddForward It was in 1996 that I was first challenged to take another look at the doctrine of the trinity which, I thought, could be clearly supported from the Bible.

RECEIVING THE SPIRIT 2 The Holy Spirit – W.H Branson Preface Apart from the giving of His Son, the most precious gift of God to His church on earth is that of the Holy Spirit. In fact, most that we Christians know of God, of Jesus, and of God's word to man, we owe to the teachings of the Spirit. All that we spiritually know of ourselves, we have learned from Him. All our knowledge of truth, all our experience in regeneration and sanctification, all our victories over the world, the flesh, and the devil must be ascribed to His presence and influence. When He is present, He reproves of sin, points the sinner to the great Sin Bearer, Jesus, leads the believer into all truth, speaks comforting messages from Jesus to the soul, and provokes the church to active effort in helping to save lost men. To be filled with the Spirit is to be filled with love for God and a passion for souls. In bestowing this blessed gift upon the church, God purposed that the Holy Spirit should be the constant companion and guide of the believer.

50C March, 1973 We have tried just about every- thing now to find fulfillment. We've built vast cities, and we've sent men to the moon. We've put up mighty dams, and we've split the atom. You name it, we've done it. Music. Art. Chess. Dancing. Golf. Gardening. Racing. Foot- ball. Crime. Drinking. Radio. Collecting antiques. Religion. Boxing. Drugs. Sex. TV. PTA meetings. Sunbathing. Gambling. The stock market. Bingo. The list is endless. And yet we're still not satisfied. We still remain restless, incomplete be- ings, ever seeking completion. The difference between rest- lessness and rest is really quite a simple thing, however. An infant lying in a crib can be a very restless creature. Yet cradled in his mother's arms, he quickly becomes content and happy. Secure in the knowledge that he is accepted and loved by another in whom he can trust, the child rests in peace. The following pages have a simple message. They explain how Jesus Christ came to bring us the rest, the fulfillment, and the acceptance we all need. Cover/Gail R. • The Development of Trinity Theology Within the Seventh-Day Adventist Church
The Development of Trinity Theology within the Seventh-day Adventist Church Part 2 - The Father and the Son By Terry Hill This is Part 2 of a study on how trinity doctrine theology developed within the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Here we shall be taking a detailed look at what SDA’s once taught, through their various denominational publications, about the Father and the Son. We shall then compare this with what is being taught today, which, as we shall see, is something entirely different. Part 1 of this study can be found here https://theprophetstillspeaks.co.uk/History/Development_of_SDA_Trinity_Theology_ 1.pdf Overview and introduction From their very beginnings as a denomination, right through until decades after the death of Ellen White, SDA’s believed and taught that Christ, in His pre-existence, was begotten of God therefore He is truly the Son of God. God therefore, according to early SDA’s, was truly the father of Christ. During my research, I have not found anywhere, at least not during the time of Ellen White’s ministry, where this was disputed. Christ therefore, according to early Seventh-day Adventism, was truly a son – and the Father was truly a father. The article you are now reading is not simply meant to debate certain theological positions. Its intent is to show, as time has progressed, the development of theology, within Seventh- day Adventism, regarding the Father and the Son. Having said that, this author takes the view that what was believed and taught by SDA’s, during the time of Ellen White’s ministry, also for decades after her death (that God is truly a father, and Christ is truly a son), is the truth concerning these two divine personalities.

  • The Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Maoist China
1 Co-optation and its Discontents: The Seventh-day Adventism in Maoist China Joseph Tse-Hei Lee Pace University, New York, USA [email protected] Introduction Many studies of Christianity in Maoist China have focused on the politicization of religious practices, explaining how the Christian faith provided people with strengths and resources to cope with confusions and uncertainties in an authoritarian society. These studies define Christianity against the state’s visions of revolutionary socialism and secular modernity.1 But in practice both the Maoist state and Christians invoked ideas about transcendent power and moral purpose, blurring the boundary between secularity and religiosity. The state-sanctioned religious doctrines and practices greatly impacted the political and religious orientations of Chinese Christians and the church-state relations in the People’s Republic. This paper explores the complicated relations between the Communist state and the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the post-1949 era. It highlights the longstanding impacts of the Three-Self Reform Movement (renamed as the Three-Self Patriotic Movement in 1954) upon the religious practices of the Chinese Adventists. The Three-Self Patriotic Movement was a state-controlled mass organization designed to sever the churches’ ties with the Western missionary enterprises and to co-opt native church leaders into the socialist order during the early 1950s. Through this mechanism of co-optation, the Maoist state proclaimed to establish a self-supporting, self-propagating, and self-administrating church 2 on Chinese soil, even though the real purpose was to bring all the highly diffused Protestant denominations under the state’s control. In addition, the state launched countless political campaigns to demonize foreign missionaries and persecute Christians whose views of church-state relations differed from the government.2 In this hostile environment, the Seventh-day Adventist Church was the first Protestant denomination to be denounced by the state in 1951.

He was to call to mind their unbelief and murmuring when brought into trial, and the Lord's great mercy and loving-kindness, which had never forsaken them. This would stimulate their faith and strengthen their courage. While they would be led to realize their own sin and weakness, they would realize also that God was their righteousness and strength. It is just as essential that the people of God in this day should bear in mind how and when they have been tested, and where their faith has failed; where they have imperiled His cause by their unbelief and also by their self-confidence. God's mercy, His sustaining providence, His never-to-be-forgotten deliver- ances, are to be recounted, step by step.
