1981 – ULowell beats arch-rival Merrimack College 6-3 at the Tully Forum for its 10th consecutive win. The Chiefs would go on to win a national-record 36 straight games. 1983 – Seniors Mike Carr, Steve Arnold, and Chuck Sage all enjoy four-point games as Division II ULowell rallies for five third-period goals against future NHL goalie Chris Terreri and surprises Providence College, a nationally-ranked Divi sion I team, by beating the Friars 6-4 at Schneider Arena in Providence. The Friars had ended ULowell’s national-record 36-game winning streak the previous season. The victory is the 12th in a row for the Chiefs, who stretch their streak to 19 games before losing. It also their fourth win in five games against Division I teams that season. Carr and Arnold each have two goals and two assists, while Sage has a goal and three assists. Carr also scores his 25th goal, making him the only player in school history with four 25-goal seasons. Arnold also notches his 25th goal and extends his scoring streak to 10 games, a streak that will reach 19 before his career ends. 1987 – ULowell goaltender Dave Delfino assists on two goals as the Chiefs beat Northeastern 7-4 at the Tully Forum. Freshman right wing Randy LeBrasseur also scores a goal for the fifth consecutive game, netting six goals in the streak. It was LeBrasseur’s second five-game goal-scoring streak of the season. Junior center Jon Morris reaches the 20-goal mark for the third straight season. 2008 – Sophomore Kory Falite scores a pair of goals to spark 18th-ranked UMass Lowell to a 3-1 triumph over seventh-ranked Boston College in Chestnut Hill. 2013 – Senior center Riley Wetmore nets his 100th career point with a goal in 14th-ranked UMass Lowell’s 6-3 triumph over UMass Amherst.

Tsongas Arena/Center Facts and Firsts

JANUARY 26, 2018: On January 26, 2018 the Tsongas Center celebrated its 20th anniversary. The building owned jointly by the city and the state, at the time, opened, as the Tsongas Arena, on January 27, 1998 as Dartmouth defeated UMass Lowell, 2-1, in overtime in the first event of any sort to take place in the venue. Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, joined on ice by her family, did as she had twenty years ago and officiate at the ceremonial puck drop.UMass Lowell is 188-141-31 all-time in the building now owned by the university.
