It was the longest wait for the first league win since the 2004- 05 season when they lost five in a row to start the Hockey East season and after two ties picked up their first Hockey East win in their eighth league game.

CARRYING THE WEIGHT: UMass Lowell is the second biggest team in the country based on average weight. The River Hawks tip the scales at an average 193.83-pounds. Only Hockey East rival UConn is heavier averaging 194.23-pounds.

THE CENTURY CLUB: Three members of the UMass Lowell roster have played more than 100 games in their collegiate careers. Nick Master leads the group with 127 games in a River Hawk uniform. Connor Wilson (112) and Ryan Dmowski (109) joined the club earlier this season. Next on the list are Ryan Lohin (87), Mattias Göransson (86), Colin O’Neill (85) and Kenny Hausinger (82). A year ago UMass Lowell had six players on the roster with more than 100 games played in their collegiate careers.

92 AND COUNTING: UMass Lowell’s visit October 27th to the Bentley Arena, a building that opened for business during the 2017- 18 season, pushed the number of buildings in which UMass Lowell has played hockey to at least 92. The long list includes stops stretching from Alaska to Belfast, Northern Ireland and from Arizona to Maine.

DOWN BUT NOT OUT: UMass Lowell’s 2-1 come-from-behind win on October 12th was the first time they had won a game in which they had trailed after two-periods since beating Vermont 3-2, in overtime, on January 19, 2018. The River Hawks were 3-14-0 last year in games in which they trailed after two-periods.

52nd SEASON OF UMASS LOWELL HOCKEY: This is the 52nd season of hockey at UMass Lowell. The program began at Lowell Tech with the 1967-68 season. That first team went 7-7-1. After winning three Division II National Championships the program moved to Division I as an Independent for the 1983-84 season and joined Hockey East for its inaugural season of 1984-85. The River Hawks are 874-725-117 all time with a winning percentage of .543 and 614-605-110 record (.503) as a Division I program.

THE LEADERSHIP: Forwards Ryan Lohin and Connor Wilson will serve as co-captains for the River Hawks this season. Lohin, a junior, led the team in scoring a year ago with nine-goals and 25-points. Wilson, a senior, is coming off his best offensive season with eight-goals and 16-points. Junior defenseman Mattias Göransson will serve as the alternate captain. 1984 – Defenseman Doug Burns nets three goals, but they’re not enough as ULowell is outgunned 9-7 by Colorado College at the Tully Forum. The Tigers scored six goals in the first period and built up a 7-0 lead before withstanding the comeback by the Chiefs. Center Bill Dohaney (Donnie) has four assists for ULowell. Senior wing Mike Opre notches his 100th career point. 2001 – Senior goalie Cam McCormick kicks out 27 shots and records his fifth shutout of the season as UMass Lowell erases St. Lawrence 4-0 in Canton, N.Y. It is also the seventh career shutout for McCormick, eclipsing Brian Doyle’s record set from 1976-80. 2002 – Sophomore goalie Chris Davidson stops 18 shots and collects an assist as UMass Lowell shuts out Clarkson 3-0.

During the 1986-87, UML sported as 12-2-1 record on Christmas, and in 2001-2002, they had a 12-2-0 record. During the 2nd half of 1986-87, they went 10-10-1 to finish 22-12-2, and during the 2nd half of 2001-2002 they went 10-11-3 to finish 22-13-3. JANUARY 26, 2018: On January 26, 2018 thye Tsongas Center celebrated its 20th anniversary. The building owned jointly by the city and the state, at the time, opened, as the Tsongas Arena, on January 27, 1998 as Dartmouth defeated UMass Lowell, 2-1, in overtime in the first event of any sort to take place in the venue.
