  • Bedre Kapasitet Og Satsing På Godstrafikken I Nordland
Samtidig utredes nye jernbaneforbindelser i nord.

  • Assessing the Peripheral Status of Local Airports
ASSESSING THE PERIPHERAL STATUS OF LOCAL AIRPORTS Frode Kjærlanda Trondheim Business School, Sør-Trøndelag University College, 7004 Trondheim, Norway Bodø Graduate School of Business, University of Nordland, 8049 Bodø, Norway Terje Andreas Mathisenb* Bodø Graduate School of Business, University of Nordland, 8049 Bodø, Norway ABSTRACT The European Union (EU) has defined seven regions as outermost (or ultra-peripheral), of which three are located near the European mainland (the Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands). These regions benefit from certain relaxations in EU law to promote economic development such as extended duration on tendered contracts for subsidised air transport routes subject to public service obligation. This article aims to determine the peripheral status of Norwegian municipalities hosting airports with subsidized air transport routes in order to assess whether they qualify for a similar extension of contract length. Evidently, a majority of the route areas can be classified as equally or more peripheral than the outermost regions. The method for assessment can be transferred to PSO-routes in other peripheral regions of the EU as well as for considering relaxation of other laws promoting the development of such areas. Keywords: public service obligation, subsidy, air transport, peripheral regions, remoteness, tendering duration ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ aFrode Kjærland is an associate professor at Bodø Graduate School of Business, University of Nordland and Trondheim Business School, Sør-Trøndelag University College. He received a Ph.D. in financial economics at Bodø Graduate School of Business, University of Nordland. His research interests revolve around real options applied to the energy and transport industries. bTerje Andreas Mathisen is a postdoctoral research fellow at Bodø Graduate School of Business, University of Nordland and holds a Ph.D.

  • Norwegian Camps: Beisfjord Near Narvik, 1942-1945
Norwegian camps: Beisfjord near Narvik, 1942-1945 Yugoslav prisoners and Soviet prisoners of war Author: Michael Stokke, researcher at the Narvik War and Peace Centre Beisfjord is a small village situated 12 kilometres south-east of Narvik. Less than a hundred inhabitants lived there during the war. In June 1942, the SS set up a prison camp in the centre of Beisfjord to house 900 Yugoslavian prisoners. An additional camp was built to house the camp guards. In October 1942, the inmates were moved out and the Wehrmacht took over the camp, after which Soviet prisoners of war began arriving, and the camp was used to hold them until peace came in May 1945. The number of Soviet prisoners rose from 600 in 1943 to more than 1,500 by the end of 1944. The Yugoslav prisoners On 24 June 1942, the Kerkplein sailed into the port of Narvik. A total of 900 prisoners were disembarked on Fagernes quay. They set out on the 10-kilometre-long march to Beisfjord, where a newly built prison camp awaited them. Prisoners who collapsed from exhaustion along the way were beaten with truncheons or stabbed with bayonets by the guards. Five prisoners were beaten to death on the march, and one of them – Vidoje Vajovic from Serbia – was shot and killed. He was ill, and was shot as his brother Milosav attempted to protect him from the guards. Norwegian guards also patrolled alongside the marching prisoners and beat them. Thus, the nightmare for the Yugoslavs began. A total of 4049 Yugoslavs were imprisoned in Norway from June 1942 until the war ended.
