Dressing for the Times: Fashion in Tang Dynasty China (618-907) BuYun Chen Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2013 © 2013 BuYun Chen All rights reserved ABSTRACT Dressing for the Times: Fashion in Tang Dynasty China (618-907) BuYun Chen During the Tang dynasty, an increased capacity for change created a new value system predicated on the accumulation of wealth and the obsolescence of things that is best understood as fashion. Increased wealth among Tang elites was paralleled by a greater investment in clothes, which imbued clothes with new meaning. Intellectuals, who viewed heightened commercial activity and social mobility as symptomatic of an unstable society, found such profound changes in the vestimentary landscape unsettling. For them, a range of troubling developments, including crisis in the central government, deep suspicion of the newly empowered military and professional class, and anxiety about waste and obsolescence were all subsumed under the trope of fashionable dressing. The clamor of these intellectuals about the widespread desire to be “current” reveals the significant space fashion inhabited in the empire – a space that was repeatedly gendered female. This dissertation considers fashion as a system of social practices that is governed by material relations – a system that is also embroiled in the politics of the gendered self and the body. I demonstrate that this notion of fashion is the best way to understand the process through which competition for status and self-identification among elites gradually broke away from the imperial court and its system of official ranks. -

Oil prices have remained low for two years with forecasts staying in the low to mid-range for a more prolonged period. On a global basis, companies have been rationalizing their portfolios and restructuring their operations, organizations and investment plans in the low oil price environment. In response to the global changes occurring in the industry, the IPA acknowledges and thanks the government for welcoming us into the dialogue and for the robust and at times challenging discussions they are open to have with us for the benefit of all stakeholders. Here in Indonesia, exploration activity has stalled and no new blocks have been picked up by investors. -
Northern Song Intellectual Discourse on Yang Xiong's Taixuan
DOI: 10.6503/THJCS.2014.44(4).01 Northern Song Intellectual Discourse on Yang Xiong’s ∗ Taixuan jing Douglas Skonicki∗∗ Department of Chinese Literature National Tsing Hua University ABSTRACT In the eleventh century, the life and thought of the Han dynasty thinker Yang Xiong became an important topic of debate. Confucian literati of the Northern Song dynasty produced more writings devoted to Yang and his thought than during any other period in Chinese history. These facts raise two important questions. First, what role did Yang Xiong’s thought play during the Northern Song? And second, why did literati become interested in Yang Xiong at this time? This study analyzes how Northern Song thinkers viewed one of Yang’s major works, the Taixuan jing, in an effort to determine both why Yang’s ideas assumed renewed importance and what literati had to say about him. I argue that Northern Song writings on Yang’s Taixuan jing can be categorized into two distinct strains. The first strain focused on several issues related to Yang’s character and conduct, which influenced how Northern Song thinkers conceived of worthy status. The second strain centered on the theoretical doctrines found within the Taixuan jing, which served to inform Northern Song conceptions of the Yijing and the relationship between humanity and the cosmos. In addition, the largest percentage of energy emissions come from the transportation sector, specifically on road transportation. Therefore, the need for a quality detection system that is capable of distributing and displaying large data information in real-time cannot be resolved by the system currently used by the government. This research offers a solution to the implementation of data abstraction in cloud computing which is built using the concept microservice architecture and integrated with mobile-based sensors to detect air quality in real-time. This solution consists of integrated cloud computing services using Smart Environment Monitoring and Analytical in Real-time (SEMAR) and Vehicles as Mobile Sensor Networks (VaaMSN) to detecting air quality. SEMAR was built with microservice references consist of data abstraction, communication, data analytical with business analytics proccess, data storage with Big data service and also real-time visualization in maps, chart, and table through dasboard website. -

D I have worked with most of the materials from which these prod- ucts are made, but the most challenging and rewarding has been ceramics. Sophisticated manufacturing has all but replaced the artisanal approach which defined their history, yet this exposure to modern ceramics production has given me a unique appreciation for the history of the ceramic art and the lengthy trial-and-error evolution which produced some of the most remark- able ceramics the world has ever seen. It all developed in China. The large body of extraordinarily beautiful and complex ceramics created over many millennia in China is ample proof of China’s pre-eminence in world ceram- ics. My understanding of that miraculous achievement, coupled with my experience in modern manufacturing techniques, inspired me to learn more about the early Chinese potters and their craft. My enthusiasm for collecting soon deepened into an even more passionate inquiry. Early in my collecting days I recognized that a wide-ranging collection of beautiful pieces from many categories would not be as rewarding as a collection created by a disciplined strategy of identifying a few specific categories and buying in depth within those categories. -

ENERGY INDONESIA 2018 > US$200billion Energy Projects *source EICDataStream Market Outlook & Business Opportunities Indonesia is home to large oil and gas reserve, and possessed about 102 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves in 2016, which is the 15th largest reserves in the world, and the third largest in the Asia Pacific region, after Australia and China. In addition, the country holds proven oil reserves of 3.7 billion barrels and ranked in the top 20 of the world’s oil producers. In view of the fuel demand and the goal to achieve energy security for the country’s growth in its domestic refinery industry, Pertamina, a state-owned integrated energy supply company has unveiled its Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) to boost total refinery capacity to about 2.3 MMbbl/d by 2025 and has signed several agreements to partner with public-private partnerships. Recognising the opportunity that Indonesia’s energy market presents, the Government is committed on its 35,000 MW energy plan, with efforts in improving the ease of licensing by providing incentives and adjustments on feed- in-tariff. These are part of the government’s initiatives to increase the deployment of renewable energy in the country. Under the new electricity procurement business plan (or RUPTL) 2018-2027, renewables are targeted to account for 23 percent of the country’s energy mix by 2027, up from current 12 percent, while coal 54.4 percent, gas 22.2 percent, and fuel oil 0.4 percent. Total transmission line is projected to reach 63,855 km, while substations around 151,424 MVA, and distribution network 526,390 km. -
