The information gained from the questionnaires completed by and the interviews with company and channel official representatives have been translated from Finnish and Swedish to English as accurately as possible. However, we apologise in advance for any loss of meaning in that proc- ess. We say this especially because it is very difficult, and sometimes not possible, to do exact translations from Finnish to English, or indeed to Scandinavian languages, as Finnish belongs to a different language group to these other languages. Thus, the contents of these translations are not for public broadcasting or distribution without permission of the authors. *** In a short celebrity interview of three or four minutes with Teri Hatcher broadcast on Nelonen television channel, 14.00 9th January 2006, the star of the US television series "Desperate Housewives" [Täydelliset naiset] was asked how she explained the success of the series. Ms Hatcher an- swered that because everything

Multimediatuotannon opinnäytetyö, 53 sivua, 2 liitesivua Kevät 2013 Tässä opinnäytetyössä tutkitaan millainen TV-ohjelma menestyy nykypäivänä ja miten olemassa olevia ohjelmaformaatteja uudistetaan vastaamaan katsojien tämänhetkisiä tarpeita. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on löytää keskeiset tekijät oh- jelmasarjan menestymiseen nykyajan televisiomaailmassa. Monikanavaisessa sisällöntuotannossa on kuluttaja käyttäjänä todellinen kuningas/kuningatar.

The hypothesis is that the Nordic countries are role models when it comes to combating human trafficking and prostitution, considering they focus on gender inequality. Two research questions are posed. The first one is whether feminist influence is effective when it comes to policy frameworks. The assumption is that feminist influence is effective, specifically when looking at the Nordic countries, as they are gender egalitarian nations that have the advantage of having strong feminist lobbies within society. The second question is whether the Nordic countries and their NGOs act as norm entrepreneurs in combating human trafficking and prostitution. The assumption is that the Nordic countries are norm entrepreneurs as they have influenced each other and other nations to conform to their norms and values. The same goes with NGOs within society as some of the Nordic countries have NGOs that are strong in feminist values and lobbyism. The special focus is thus on the Nordic countries, as each will be discussed and compared in their efforts in combating human trafficking and sexual exploitation. 4 Preface This thesis is the final assignment for a Masters of Arts degree in International Relations at the University of Iceland and is the equivalent of 30 credits.
