FIC to OEM ............... OEM to FIC 1 Electronic Control Units FIC Number Range: 1_ _ _ _ _ Function: Operates as a central processing unit. Reacts to input from various sensors and calculates engine control parameters accordingly. These include fuel delivery and timing. Process: 1. Cases and cans are removed from electronics to enable complete and accurate visual inspection. 2. All visible damage to boards and components is repaired or replaced. 3. Unit is connected to in house Simulator. 4. Simulator then runs ECU through all phases of operation. Any operation that fails to meet OEM specifications is repaired. 5. Once the ECU meets all OEM specifications the unit is reassembled, sealed and packaged. Fuel Injectors FIC Number Range: 38_ _ _ _ Function: A solenoid valve that works in conjunction with the Control Unit. The injector receives a signal from the control unit and delivers the precise measured amount of fuel directly to the intake port. Process: 1. All fuel hose, external seals, filter, pintle cap, etc. are removed. 2. Special cleaning process for exterior of injector. 3. Injector is flushed and backflushed to remove debris. 3. Injector is then ran in a closed loop environment. 4. The injector is checked for: a.) Coil resistance b.) Spray pattern c.) Fuel delivery d.) Leak test 5. Once the injector meets all OEM specifications, the filter, pintle cap, all external seals, hose and hose ferrules are replaced. 2 Air Flow Meters FIC Number Range: 41_ _ _ _ Function: Works in conjunction with the ECU and the injectors. The Air Flow Meter measures the volume of air going into the engine and sends a corresponding signal to the ECU. The ECU then calculates the appropriate injection duration and sends it to the injector. Some AFM's incorporate a temperature sensor. Process: 1. AFM's are stripped to the component level. 2. All parts, mechanical and electrical are tested to meet OEM specifications. 3. Unit is assembled using known good parts. 4. Simulator then runs AFM through all phases of operation. 5. Spring tension, wiper position and CO screw are calibrated to OEM specification. 6. Once the AFM meets all OEM specifications the unit is sealed and packaged. Air Mass Meters FIC Number Range: 42_ _ _ _ , 43_ _ _ _, 48_ _ _ _ , 49_ _ _ _ Function: Works in conjunction with the ECU and injectors. The AMM provides the ECU with a signal representing the engine load. The ECU and injectors then adjust the fuel/air mixture ratio. The AMM adjusts to changes in the air mass, air temperature and altitude automatically. Process: 1. All AMM's are stripped to the component level. 2. All parts, mechanical and electrical are tested to meet OEM specification. 3. Unit is assembled using known good parts. 4. Simulator then runs AMM through all phases of operation. 5. The AMM is then calibrated to OEM specifications. 6. Once the unit meets the OEM specifications the unit is sealed and packaged. 3 Warm Up Regulators FIC Number Range: 51_ _ _ _ Function: The Warm up regulator utilizes engine temperature and an electronic signal to adjust the fuel enrichment during warm up. The WUR varies the fuel pressure on top of the control plunger in the Fuel Distributor accordingly. Process: 1. WUR's are stripped to the component level. 2. All parts, mechanical and electrical are tested to meet OEM specifications. 3. Unit is assembled using known good parts. 4. Simulator then runs WUR through all phases of operation. 5. The WUR is then set to OEM specifications for "Warm" and "Cold" operation. 6. Once the WUR meets all OEM specifications the unit is sealed and packaged. Fuel Distributors FIC Number Range: 81_ _ _ _ Function: The Fuel distributor measures and delivers fuel to each individual injector. The FD mounts on an Air Horn which measures the amount of air going into the engine. As a flap in the Air Horn rises or lowers the amount of fuel delivered is adjusted accordingly. Process: 1. All FD's are stripped to the component level. 2. All parts, mechanical and electrical are tested to meet OEM specification. 3. Unit is assembled using known good parts. 4. The FD is connected to the calibration apparatus. 5. System pressure is set. 6. The fuel delivery for each port is then set to OEM specifications. 7. Once the unit meets all OEM specifications the unit is sealed and packaged. 4 Fuel Pumps FIC Number Range: 71_ _ _ _ - 78_ _ _ _ Function: A vital part of the fuel injection system, Fuel Pumps draw fuel from the tank and deliver it to system components. (ie: Warm-Up-Regulators, Fuel Distributors and Injectors.) Reconditioned Process: 1. Visual inspection for defects. Units deemed defective are disassembled. 2. Units are tested for amperage draw under running and loaded conditions. 3. Units are tested for flow rate and pressure checked for seal integrity. Remanufacturing Process: 1. Units are disassembled to component level. 2. Bearings are cleaned or replaced. 3. Commutators are resurfaced or replaced. 4. New brushes installed. 5. All 'O' rings are replaced. 6. Assembled units are flow rate, presure checked and tested for amperage draw. 5 ACURA ACURA INTEGRA 1986-95 LEGEND 1986-95 Electronic Control Unit Electronic Control Unit 86 M/T Fed 100558 86-87 M/T Fed 100508 A/T Fed 100556 A/T Fed 100506 M/T Cal 100554 M/T Cal 100504 A/T Cal 100552 A/T Cal 100502 2 DOOR 88 M/T Fed 100516 A/T Fed 100514 87 M/T Fed 100566 M/T Cal 100512 A/T Fed 100564 A/T Cal 100510 M/T Cal 100562 89 M/T 100516 A/T Cal 100560 A/T 100514 88-89 M/T Fed 100572 90 M/T Fed 100524 A/T Fed 100570 A/T Fed 100522 M/T Cal 100570 M/T Cal 100520 A/T Cal 100568 A/T Cal 100518 90 M/T 100584 91 M/T Fed 100532 A/T 100582 A/T Fed 100530 91 M/T Fed 100596 M/T Cal 100528 A/T Fed 100594 A/T Cal 100526 M/T Cal 100592 92-93 M/T Fed 100544 A/T Cal 100590 A/T Fed 100542 92 M/T Fed 100600 M/T Cal 100540 A/T Fed 100598 A/T Cal 100538 M/T Cal 100592 GS-R Fed 100536 A/T Cal 100590 GS-R Cal 100534 93 M/T Fed 100616 94-95 M/T 100550 A/T Fed 100614 A/T 100548 M/T Cal 100612 GS-R 100546 A/T Cal 100610 LS M/T Fed 100608 Injection Valve LS A/T Fed 100604 LS M/T Cal 100606 LS A/T Cal 100602 86-91 388030 94-95 M/T Fed 100640 92-93 388054 A/T Fed 100638 Fuel Pump M/T Cal 100636 A/T Cal 100634 86-89 780957 LS M/T Fed 100632 90-93 DOHC 780305 LS A/T Fed 100630 94-95 780307 LS M/T Cal 100628 LS A/T Cal 100626 GS M/T Fed 100632 GS A/T Fed 100630 GS M/T Cal 100644 GS A/T Cal 100642 6 ACURA ACURA LEGEND 1986-95 NSX 1991-94 CONTINUED CONTINUED Electronic Control Unit Injection Valve 4 DOOR 91-93 388025 87 M/T Fed 100558 Fuel Pump A/T Fed 100556 M/T Cal 100554 91-94 780305 A/T Cal 100552 88-89 M/T Fed 100580 A/T Fed 100578 VIGOR 1992-94 M/T Cal 100576 A/T Cal 100574 Electronic Control Unit 90 M/T Fed 100580 A/T Fed 100588 92-94 M/T Fed 100660 M/T Cal 100576 A/T Fed 100658 A/T Cal 100586 M/T Cal 100656 A/T Cal 100654 91-92 (SEE 2 DOOR) 93 M/T Fed 100624 A/T Fed 100622 Injection Valve M/T Cal 100620 92-93 388025 A/T Cal 100618 Injection Valve Fuel Pump 86-89 388025 92-94 780305 89 Eng. 3005399 ONCal 388056 90 Fed 388025 90 Cal 388058 91-94 Sedan 388025 ALFA ROMEO Fuel Pump 86 780311 GTV 6 1981-87 87 2494cc 780312 Electronic Control Unit 87-88 2675cc 780311 89-90 780312 81-82 130030 91-92 780305 83 130167 93-94 780307 84-86 130122 Injection Valve NSX 1991-94 81-86 380105 Electronic Control Unit Air Flow Meter 91-92 M/T 100648 81-86 412010 A/T 100646 Fuel Pump 93-94 M/T 100652 A/T 100650 81-87 (-2/87) 710020 7 ALFA ROMEO AUDI MILANO 1987-89 80 1988-92 Electronic Control Unit Fuel Pump 87 2492cc 130122 88-91 720921 87 2967cc 130123 88-91 Quattro 720921 Injection Valve 92 (9/91 on) 720036 87-89 380105 Fuel Distributor Air Flow Meter 88-90 810062 87-89 2492cc 412010 88-90 Quattro 810061 87-89 2967cc 412108 91-92 810061 Fuel Pump 87-89 (-2/89) 710020 90 1988-94 89 (3/89-) 710013 Fuel Pump 88-91 720921 SPIDER 1982-92 88-91 Quattro 720921 93-94 730070 Electronic Control Unit 93-94 Quattro 730070 82-83 130166 84-89 130124 Fuel Distributor Injection Valve 89-91 810061 82-89 380128 90-92 Motronic 380764 100 1975-94 Air Flow Meter 82-89 412027 Warm Up Regulator 90-92 Motronic 412202 Fuel Pump 75-77 LS 510011 80-81 710024 82-89 710020 Fuel Pump 90-92 (1/90-) 710013 75-76 LS,GL 720992 77 LS,GL 720957 89 720040 164 1991-95 89-91 Quattro 720040 90-91 720036 Injection Valve 92 Quattro 730058 91-92 380702 92-94 730070 93 Quattro 730070 Air Flow Meter 91-92 413035 Fuel Distributor Fuel Pump 91-92 710990 75-77 LS 810010 94-95 780901 89-91 810061 8 AUDI AUDI 200 1989-91 5000 1978-88 Warm Up Regulator Warm Up Regulator 89-90 510157 78-80 510034 Fuel Pump 79-80 Cal 510048 89 to F44K-038-261 Turbo 720042 80 Turbo 510048 89 to F44K-038-261 Turbo Quattro 720042 81-83 510094 89-91 Turbo 720034 84 510011 89-91 Turbo Quattro 720034 84 Turbo 510130 5/90 -on Turbo Quattro 730041 85 510026 86 CS Quattro510157 Fuel Distributor 86 CS Quattro Turbo 510026 89 up to F44k 038 261 810063 87-88 510157 89 F44k 038 262 on 810077 90 810077 Fuel Pump 91 810061 78 720957 91 Quattro 810078 79 exc.

Inc. 0305-3091/81/0802-0067 $06.50/0 Printed in Great Britain APPLICATION OF HYBRID IC'S TO THE AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRONICS MARKET IN EUROPE ECKART VON RODA Robert Bosch GmbH, 7000 Stuttgart 30, Federal Republic of Germany In the last few years hybrids have been increasingly used in automotive electronics in Europe. With examples from the BOSCH and BLAUPUNKT production range their application in regulators, breakerless ignition modules, electronically-controlled fuel injection systems and car radios is illustrated. The elements and techniques used to assemble the hybrids, and the advantages which can be gained are discussed. 1 INTRODUCTION thick film ciruits though still purely resistance networks- secured a firm place in automotive The application of electronics, and especially electronics and even at this time enabled cost-saving microelectronics in motor vehicles, has the aim of matching of functions (Figure 1). increasing service value, ease of operation and safety, In 1978 a hybrid regulator was introduced (Figure of lessening the environmental impact of the vehicle 2). It is mounted in a hermetically-sealed metal housing and reducing the energy consumption, especially in approximately corresponding to TO 3 and consists only operation. This last point is especially topical at this of a small thick film board with a few conductors, 2 time. resistors and one IC, of a quench diode and of a Apart from the car radio, this development began in Europe in about 1967 when electronically-controlled fuel injection developed by BOSCH and transistorized ignition were first employed for engine control.

At the outset, Bosch worked with two associates to construct and install all kinds of electrical equipment, such as telephone systems and electric bells. However, the company’s startup capital of 10,000 German marks was soon used up and they had to rely on loans. Robert Bosch invested most of the company's small earnings in modern machines. He later described his first years as a self- employed businessman as a “shambles”. The construction of the electric power station in Stuttgart in 1895 was one factor that helped the young company on the road to economic recovery by creating new jobs for its installation business. The second factor was the magneto ignition device, which had already become a linchpin in the company’s economic success. Bosch and the magneto ignition device Sept 7, 2020 In 1887, Robert Bosch had been approached by a customer and asked to Page 2 of 13 produce a magneto ignition device based on a model made by the engine manufacturer Deutz in Cologne.
