This new species is characterized by its obesity; high spire; smooth, glossy surface; and by a deeper water habitat of 30-35 m. This is the second species of the genus found off the Brazilian coast and the only one occurring in its bathymetric range. Since 2008, Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention have adopted the EcAp and agreed on a roadmap for its implementation.     The malacological collection from Riparo Dalmeri (Trento) GIAMPAOLO DALMERI & CHIARA FIOCCHI - ABS1RACT The collection is composed of twenty-five shells and has been studied from a paleontological and palethnological point of view. A total of five species have been determined which are all present in the modern fauna in the Mediterranean area and which are probably contemporary with the age of the site. An ornamental use is very probable because there are a lot of perforations which have also been studied using both a stereornicroscope and a scanning electron microscope. Eight species are new records for Costa Rica: Cyclostrema tortuganum, Rissoina c.f. fenestrata, Vanikoro oxychone, Epitonium c.f. denticulatum, Latirus infundibulum, Hastula salleana, Daphnella lymneiformis and Tenaturris c.f. inepta. Thirteen species are found on the Caribbean and Pacific coasts of Costa Rica: Tegula fas- ciata, Cymatium nicobaricum, Anachis lyrata, Costoanachis varia, Mitrella ocellata, Agaronia testacea, Hastula cinerea, Architectonica nobilis, Dolabrifera dolabrifera, Stylocheilus striatus, Cavolinia longirostris, Phidiana lascrucensis and Spurilla neapolitana. In comparison with a recent report of the Caribbean and west- ern Atlantic gastropods of Colombia, the Costarican fauna hardly presents 35.8% of those species. Similarly, in comparison with a work from Panama, the quantity of species shared between Costa Rica and its nearby coun- try is 48.2%. The number of species reported here is probably an underestimation because few micromolluscs have been studied and no samples have been collected in deep waters nor in the north part of the coast. VASQUEZ 1 Departamento de Biología Marina, Facultad de Ciencias del Mar, Universidad Católica del Norte, Casilla 117, Coquimbo, Chile, e-mail: [email protected] RESUMEN La diversidad de macroinvertebrados marinos ha recibido una atención creciente, no obstante, con un escaso tratamiento en el contexto biogeográfico. Este estudio analiza los registros de 1.601 especies de macroinvertebrados bentónicos pertenecientes a: Demospongiae, Anthozoa, Polychaeta, Mollusca, Crustacea, Echinodermata y Ascideacea, agrupados en 10 zonas y tratados desde una perspectiva zoogeográfica. Mollusca (611 especies), Polychaeta (403) y Crustacea (370) corresponden a los grupos mejor representados a lo largo de la costa chilena, determinantes en el patrón global de la biodiversidad. Este aumenta suavemente de norte a sur, interrumpido por máximos que sugieren esfuerzos diferenciales de estudio más que un comportamiento natural de la biodiversidad. El grado de agrupamiento entre las zonas muestra las tres unidades biogeográficas definidas recientemente por Lancellotti & V ásquez. Este arreglo, que representa lo exhibido por los grupos más diversos, se ve alterado en los grupos menos representados donde las diferencias obedecen al patrón de afinidades mostradas por las zonas comprendidas dentro de la Región Templada Transicional. El quiebre zoogeográfico alrededor de los 41° S, sugerido largamente en la literatura, sólo ocurre en Echinodermata y Demospongiae, evidenciando en los otros taxa la existencia de un área de transición entre los 35° y 48° S, caracterizada por un reemplazo gradual de especies.
