Oct 19: The Adventure Begins
● Depart from The United States to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. ● Dinner and breakfast are served on board the plane. Overnight Flight
Oct 20: Tel Aviv to The Tantur Ecumenical Institute
● Pick up at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv for a short drive to Jerusalem to Tantur. ● Check in to this “oasis” where people come to be refreshed in heart, mind, and spirit. Lunch, Dinner served in the dining room. Overnight at Tantur
Oct 21: Rest day at Tantur
● Acclimate to the time change while enjoying all Tantur has to offer including ● the amazing library, ● 24/7 tea room ● Chapel ● Colorful gardens Breakfast, lunch, & dinner served in the dining room. Overnight at Tantur
Oct 22: Bethlehem / Church of the Nativity/ Shepperd's Fields / Garden Tomb
● Just south of Jerusalem lies the small town of Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. We will visit the Church of Nativity and descend the steps to see the birthplace of Jesus. ● Shepherds’ Field. Caves where shepherds “kept watch over their flock” still abound in the area east of Bethlehem. Here, the Gospel tells us, an angel announced the birth of Jesus. The traditional place of the angel’s visit is the town of Beit Sahur. Originally known as the Village of the Shepherds, it is now an eastern suburb of Bethlehem.
Overnight at Tantur Oct 23: Bethlehem / Herodium / Tomb of Rachel
● Visit the Herodium, the massive fortress built by King Herod's orders atop a man made mountain. See the splendor in the ruins and the life of the baby killer king. ● Rachel's Tomb is the site revered as the burial place of the matriarch Rachel. The tomb is considered holy to Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Overnight at Tantur Oct 24: Galilee / Nazareth / Cana / Capernaum / Tabgha / Mount of Beatitudes
● Visit Nazareth where we will visit the Church of the Annunciation of Christ, and Nazareth Village, to see life as it was experienced 2,000 years ago. ● Cana, where Jesus performed his first miracle and turned the water to wine.From Cana to the Northern shores of the Sea of Galilee. ● Capernaum – Jesus’s town, where Jesus assembled the apostles and performed many of his miracles as well as the site of a large ancient synagogue and Peter’s house ● Tabgha – On the shore of the Sea of Galilee Below the Church of the multiplication, located the site of the miracle of the fish and loafs well stroll on the beach and feel the special atmosphere of the place. ● Mount of Beatitudes – where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount. Oct 25: More Galilee / Banias Caesarea Philippi / Magdala / Yardenit
● We start our day at Banias or to use the Roman name, Caesarea Philippi. From Banias, we will ascend the Golan Heights up to Mt Bental for spectacular views that underline the strategic importance of this region. ● We descend to the Sea of Galilee and visit the ancient boat attributed to the time of Jesus. We will enjoy a boat ride (in a replica of the ancient boat). ● Magdala, home town of Mary Magdalene. Here we find a complete first century town and synagogue where it is believed that Jesus himself visited, taught and preached at this synagogue. The church called Duc in Altum in Latin “ Launch into the deep “ (words of Jesus in Luke 5:4, fishers of men) and it honors the women of the Gospels. ● Yardenit Baptismal site, a tranquil spot where the Sea of Galilee flows into the Jordan River, the river in which John baptized Jesus. Oct 26: Jerusalem of Jesus / Mount of Olives / Gethsemane / Upper Room
● Start your day with the amazing panoramic view of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, Which is also the place where according to tradition Jesus ascended into Heaven. ● Walk or drive down Mt of Olives en route for the Garden of Gethsemane, on the same route Jesus entered Jerusalem in his last week. Visit the Church of Dominus Flevit ● the Church of Agony in Gethsemane where Jesus fell into agony and his apostles fell into a deep sleep at night, before the crucifixion. ● From there we will move on to the old city and tour the four quarters, starting with the Western Wall, walking down the Via Dolorosa Our next stop will be at the old Roman main street (Cardo), at the Jewish quarter. The Last Supper Room in Mt Zion ● the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site of the crucifixion and the holy tomb. Overnight at Tantur Oct 27: Jerusalem of three religions / Dome of the rock / Western Wall / Israel Museum ● This morning we enter the Temple area and Mt. Moriah, to see the Dome of Rock ● Then we will visit the Western Wall and the Ophel Archaeological park and Museum. ● Pool of Bethesda, the Chapel of the Flagellation, and the Ecce Homo Arch. ● .We will finish our day with a visit to the Israel Museum; there we will see the beautiful model of Jerusalem in the times of the Second Temple, the Dead Sea Scrolls in the Shrine of the Book, as well as the spectacular display of findings from biblical times. Oct 28: Jerusalem / Mt. Zion / Last Supper Room / King David Tomb
Oct 29: Masada & The Dead Sea ● A spectacular tour of Masada with its mountaintop fortress. ● Visit the caves of Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls where discovered. ● Stop for a float on the salty waters of the Dead Sea. Overnight at Tantur
Oct 30: Free Day In Jerusalem ● Return to Holy Sites or visit new ones ● Eat in the city or out in the neighborhood to try local fare. ● Shop in the bazaars of the old city for souvenirs. Overnight at Tantur
Oct 31: The Journey Home ● Breakfast ● Farewells ● Depart to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.
